Forget Kudus: Spurs ace is now becoming their best signing since Van de Ven

Tottenham Hotspur have made some incredible additions over the last few years, with such talents undoubtedly helping the side beat Leeds United over the weekend.

Thomas Frank’s side secured a 2-1 win over the newly-promoted outfit, helping claim the side’s fourth Premier League win of the 2025/26 campaign.

The Dane has already impressed since taking the reins, with the Lilywhites only suffering one defeat in ten outings across all competitions after his appointment during the summer.

Numerous players have impressed in North London, whether that be players already on the books or ones brought in to make an impact after the manager’s arrival.

One of the players has made an immediate impact in North London over recent weeks, with his showing against Daniel Farke’s side one of his best for his new club.

Mohammed Kudus’ start to life at Spurs

During the summer transfer window, the Spurs hierarchy decided to fork out a whopping £55m for the signature of Mohammed Kudus to help bolster the options within the final third.

The Ghanaian caused a fair amount of controversy with his move, subsequently leaving rivals West Ham United to join the Lilywhites – even stating it was always going to be Spurs after leaving the Hammers.

On the pitch, the 25-year-old has already made an immediate impact, registering one goal and four assists within his first ten outings across all competitions.

His latest contributions came in Saturday’s triumph, scoring his first goal for the club, whilst also teeing up Mathys Tel for his first strike of the new campaign.

Kudus is now sitting at the top of the club’s list for combined goals and assists in the Premier League, with his tally of five now higher than Richarlison, who sits one behind in second.

However, despite the immediate impact he’s made in attacking areas, one other talent is rapidly becoming one of the club’s best additions over the last handful of years.

The Spurs star who is becoming their best signing

Micky van de Ven has been a crucial cog in Spurs’ defensive department over the last couple of years, with his £40m transfer in the summer of 2023 now looking like a bargain.

The Dutch international has racked up 61 appearances across all competitions, scoring six times – three of which have already come in the 2025/26 campaign.

His most recent effort came against Bodo Glimt in the Champions League, helping Frank’s side secure a 2-2 draw and maintain their unbeaten record in Europe.

The 24-year-old also registered the fastest sprint of any player in England’s top-flight last year, arguably being the perfect all-round option in the modern game.

However, summer addition Joao Palhinha may have been an addition many frowned upon at the time, but the midfielder is rapidly becoming one of the side’s most important players.

The Portuguese international joined on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich, with the deal including an option to buy, subsequently offering a needed ball-winning option at the heart of the side.

He’s started all but one game in the Premier League to date, once again getting the nod in the recent triumph against Leeds at Elland Road this weekend.

His stats from the encounter highlight how impressive he’s been of late, with his arrival massively solving the issue that has been plaguing the side in recent years.

Palhinha, who’s been dubbed “incredible” by one analyst, won 100% of the tackles he entered – now being the first player to win 25 tackles in the Premier League this campaign.

He also made three clearances, along with one interception and seven duels – further showcasing his sensational ability to regain possession without the ball at his feet.

However, in possession, he was just as impressive, making four passes into the final third, helping him complete 27 passes and dictate the play during the triumph.

Given his recent form, it would be a surprise to no one if the club decide to trigger the option to buy at the end of the current campaign and sign Palhinha on a permanent basis.

Such a deal would be an excellent one, allowing the former Fulham star to continue on his impressive start to life in North London, potentially helping the club win further silverware in the years ahead.

'Roberto De Zerbi can't find the ingredients' – Everyone apart from Mason Greenwood labelled 'useless' as Marseille manager's Champions League record is torn to shreds

Marseille’s Champions League campaign has unravelled under Roberto De Zerbi, with just one win in four games and mounting criticism over his tactics and squad choices. After a frustrating 1-0 home loss to Atalanta, former France international Jerome Rothen blasted the Italian coach’s approach, saying he “can’t find the ingredients” to make Marseille click – while labelling everyone but Mason Greenwood and goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli “useless.”

Atalanta exposed Marseille’s flaws

The mood in the stands turned bitter as Marseille fell 1-0 to Atalanta via a last-minute goal at the Velodrome on Wednesday. A penalty appeal that went unanswered only deepened the frustration, but the result laid bare deeper issues within De Zerbi’s side. Marseille’s fourth Champions League game of the season left them with a record of one win and three defeats, sparking fierce criticism from former Paris Saint-Germain player and France international, Rothen, who didn’t hold back as he called De Zerbi’s European campaign “ridiculous”.

AdvertisementAFPRothen’s rage gets a fiery response from Marseille

Rothen blasted Marseille and coach De Zerbi after their disastrous run in their European campaign. The French pundit said on : "OM's results are ridiculous, that's the reality. They're struggling and in a group of teams that are currently eliminated and look more like Europa League teams than Champions League teams . Let's call a spade a spade. When you look at De Zerbi's record, it's 10 Champions League matches and one win. That sums it up. Tactically, he doesn't have the tools, he can't find the ingredients and the skills to push OM to be better. He was outmaneuvered by Juric, the Atalanta coach. There was a casting error."

He further added: "Who recruited and built this team? When you see OM's resources, which are not Atalanta's resources, and you see such a difference in performance and technical execution. In yesterday's match, apart from Greenwood and Rulli, the rest is useless. The players who were there yesterday, who have special statuses and who are highlighted like [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg. They highlight that he is an experienced player, but he is an average player! You look at his big matches in the Champions League and you will see that he is nothing."

Rothen’s outburst didn’t go unnoticed. His remarks about Marseille's “Europa League-level” football and De Zerbi’s poor Champions League record drew a sharp response from inside the club. Ali Zarrak, assistant of Marseille sporting director Medhi Benatia, took to social media to hit back at Rothen, posting screenshots of private conversations between the two.

“It’s ugly to bite the hand that feeds you,” Zarrak wrote. “Last year, when you were asking for VIP lounge seats for every game, OM wasn’t a pushover. Things were going well then.”

The exchange quickly went viral, adding fuel to a situation already tense after Marseille’s recent struggles.

De Zerbi’s stuttering European experiment

De Zerbi’s Champions League campaign tells a story of contrast, from the brilliance of a 4-0 win over Ajax to the disarray of defeats against Real Madrid, Sporting CP and Atalanta.

In Madrid, Marseille were overwhelmed despite early promise; against Sporting, they lost control and organisation; and versus Atalanta, they lacked creativity and edge. Injuries and fatigue have taken a toll, but critics argue De Zerbi’s unwillingness to adjust his high-pressing, possession-heavy approach has been his undoing.

He continues to trust experienced names like Hojbjerg and Matteo Guendouzi, yet performances remain uneven. Marseille’s midfield struggles to link defence and attack, and their pressing often collapses under well-drilled opponents. Rothen’s accusation of a “casting error” in recruitment stings but the imbalance between De Zerbi’s vision and Marseille’s reality is becoming impossible to ignore.

AFPGreenwood’s spark amid the chaos

Amid the criticism, one player continues to shine – Greenwood. The English forward, now in his second season at Marseille, has been the club’s one consistent bright spot. With seven goals in 10 league games and decisive contributions in Europe, Greenwood embodies the efficiency and hunger lacking elsewhere in the squad.

His four-goal performance against Le Havre earlier this season drew comparisons to club legend Jean-Pierre Papin, and even in the Atalanta defeat, his energy stood out. As Rothen noted, Greenwood and goalkeeper Rulli are among the few who have “earned their place.”

De Zerbi’s challenge now is to channel Greenwood’s form and rediscover Marseille’s rhythm before the season unravels completely. With Champions League qualification slipping away and internal tensions mounting, the Italian coach must prove he still has the tactical spark – or risk losing a project that once promised revival but now flirts with collapse. Marseille currently stand 25th in the Champions League table and are set to face Newcastle United next in the European competition on November 25.

Arne Slot insists Liverpool's losing streak 'shouldn't matter' despite growing pressure after Man Utd defeat

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has called for calm after watching his side slump to a worrying fourth consecutive loss at the weekend, in the form of the damaging 2-1 home defeat by arch-rivals Manchester United. The Dutchman has urged players and fans to focus on the coming matches and not dwell on woeful recent run as the Reds look to get back on track.

Champions endure worrying dip in form

After a strong start to the season, Slot’s side has suffered a significant slump following four straight losses across all competitions. In the league, they’ve surrendered top spot to title rivals Arsenal and have fallen behind Manchester City. Despite picking up wins earlier in the season, most were unconvincing, and performances have steadily worsened. Slot's biggest challenge is integrating expensive new signings like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, which has disrupted the squad's balance. The team has also struggled defensively, particularly against set pieces, an area that was previously a strength. Amid mounting pressure, Slot insists his squad must find an "extra edge".

AdvertisementGetty Images SportSuperstars struggle at Anfield

Sweden star Isak and Germany international Wirtz have struggled mainly due to a lack of end product, a difficult adjustment period to a new system and league. Isak has just one goal and one assist in seven appearances this season. Joining for a British-record £125 million ($167m), he had missed pre-season due to a dispute with former club Newcastle and arrived at Anfield short of match fitness. His work rate has been criticised, becoming a problem when combined with his lack of goals. Wirtz is yet to register a league goal this season and while still showing flashes of brilliance, he is still adjusting to the pace and physicality in England, and Slot's new 4-2-3-1 system. Hugo Ekitike started strongly with goals in his first five league matches but has since fallen behind Isak in the pecking order and was sent off for removing his shirt in a recent game. The arrival of Isak has inevitably intensified the competition for a starting spot, affecting his opportunities. All three players are adapting to Slot's tactical changes, which have altered how the attack operates and contributed to a lack of cohesion. The significant transfer fees for Isak and Wirtz have also magnified expectations and amplified criticism during their bedding-in period.

Slot keen to focus on future

Speaking to , Slot said: "It should not matter if we win or lose a game of football for the next one. The aim is if you play for Liverpool if you wear this shirt, the aim is to win every single game. So if we win seven in a row how we started this season, then we want to win the next three. And we didn’t, now we’ve lost the last four, so now of course we want to see Liverpool winning again. But like I said, that is not different than when you’ve lost four in a row or won four in a row."

Getty Images SportMore woe for floundering Reds

Liverpool were dealt another blow in their preparations for the Champions League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt, after the aircraft taking them to Germany was hit with a "technical issue", resulting in a four-hour delay and meaning that Slot was not able to conduct a press conference before the encounter in midweek. Failing to fulfil media commitments normally lands the offending club with a hefty fine from UEFA, but with the Reds blameless for the technical difficulties, it's unlikely there will be any consequences. The Reds boss insists the hitch has not caused any problems. He said: "No, it will not impact the build-up to tomorrow's game. We have trained over here at the AXA (Training Centre). Normally we would have gone to Frankfurt a few hours earlier, now we are a few hours later. But, no, that can never be an excuse for the game tomorrow."

Shreyas, Prabhsimran and Chahal eliminate CSK

A four-wicket 19th over from Yuzvendra Chahal, including his second IPL hat-trick, turned a topsy-turvy game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium around, putting Punjab Kings (PBKS) on the road to a four-wicket win and confirming the end of Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) playoffs hopes.Until that over, CSK were poised to breach 200 for only the second time in IPL 2025, and for the first time at home, with Sam Curran scoring 88 off 47 balls. The Chahal over, however, triggered a collapse that saw them lose their last five wickets for six runs in the space of seven balls.Related

  • Jaffer: 'Absolutely amazing how easily Shreyas dispatches the ball into the crowds'

  • Ponting: Shreyas 'understands game situations better than ever before'

  • Hat-trickster Chahal is still making batters look silly

  • Injured Maxwell in danger of missing rest of IPL; Ponting says 'stay tuned' for replacements

It meant PBKS were chasing 191 rather than something in the region of 210, and half-centuries from Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer put them in full control. There was to be one more twist, though. With three runs required off nine balls, Iyer was bowled looking for the winning hit; PBKS then scored just two runs and lost another wicket off their next five legal balls, leaving the scores level with three balls left. They eventually got over the line, with an inside-edged four from Marco Jansen providing the match a most appropriate finish.

Chahal makes belated impact

Chahal had only been used for two of the first 18 overs of the match, with PBKS reluctant to use him or the left-arm orthodox spinner Harpreet Brar against CSK’s left-hand batters. But with the famously spin-shy MS Dhoni new to the crease, Iyer threw his legspinner the ball.Dhoni hit a six off the first legal ball of the over, only to hole out next ball. A procession followed, with Chahal dismissing Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmad off the last three balls of the over. Hooda sliced a wide-ish ball to backward point, Kamboj was bowled by a quicker skidder, and the hat-trick came up in classic Chahal fashion, with Noor taking on the slow legbreak outside off stump and miscuing to long-on.Through all this, Shivam Dube, CSK’s best spin hitter, was stuck at the non-striker’s end. He may even have wondered if he should have refused a second run off the first ball Hooda faced, and kept the strike against Chahal.Dube picked up an inside-edged four off the first ball of the final over but holed out next ball, which meant CSK had been bowled out with four balls left unused.

Curran sets CSK up for strong finish

Curran had only played three of CSK’s previous nine games this season, and he directed an angry bat-wave in what seemed the direction of his dugout when he brought up his fifty, off 30 balls, in the 15th over. His innings at No. 3 was exactly what CSK had been missing all season. They made an indifferent start, slipping to 22 for 2 after 3.1 overs, and lost their third wicket in the sixth over, with Ravindra Jadeja edging Brar behind after hitting him for three fours.2:43

Jaffer: Always liked Sam Curran at No. 3

That they didn’t lose impetus thereafter was almost entirely down to Curran. He took on the spinners, hitting a six and two fours in the eighth and ninth overs, and kept finding the odd boundary – with his placement on the pull shot standing out – even when PBKS slowed things down with the military-medium cutters of Azmatullah Omarzai and Suryansh Shedge. With Dewald Brevis struggling for fluency with the ball not quite coming on, Curran dominated a fourth-wicket stand of 78.The defining passage of Curran’s innings came after Brevis had been dismissed, when Iyer chose to give Shedge a third over rather than risk bowling Chahal or Brar against the two left-hand batters at the crease. Shedge had conceded just 14 off his first two overs, but Curran kept pouncing on his errors now, hitting him for two sixes and two fours in a 26-run over. It set CSK a great death-overs platform at 160 for 4 in 16 overs. That Shedge had to bowl that over was also an effect of PBKS losing Glenn Maxwell – possibly for the rest of the season – to a broken finger. Maxwell has had a difficult IPL with the bat, but has contributed significantly with his offspin, which PBKS would have welcomed against CSK’s left-hand batters.

Prabhsimran and Iyer put PBKS in command

The reduced magnitude of PBKS’s target allowed Prabhsimran and Priyansh Arya breathing room in an opening stand of 44, with both batters able to hit regular boundaries without going after every ball. Iyer joined Prabhsimran at the crease after an accurate bouncer from Khaleel sent Arya back in the fifth over.2:05

Jaffer – Prabhsimran not throwing it away after powerplay was good to watch

Prabhsimran dominated the second-wicket partnership, choosing his moments adroitly and picking off boundaries with powerful hits down the ground as well as scoops and paddles behind the wicket. But a quiet 12th over of cutters from Curran, off which PBKS only scored five runs, dialled up the pressure, with 84 now needed off 48 balls. It led Prabhsimran to chance his arm against Noor in the 13th over, and produced a drop – by Matheesha Pathirana at short third – and then a wicket when Prabhsimran picked out Brevis at deep midwicket.Iyer, though, chose this moment to take the baton from Prabhsimran, and he proceeded to change gears dramatically. From 28 off 23, he sped to 50 off 32, clearing the boundary twice along the way. That was just a teaser, as he proceeded to hit 6, 6, 4 off three Pathirana balls in the 17th over. All three were off missed yorkers, but only once did he miss his length by anything other than a marginal amount. Iyer launched that slot ball for six down the ground. The next one was fuller and nearly in the blockhole, but he got his front leg out of the way and manufactured just enough room for a wristy whip over wide long-on. Then Pathirana landed one in the blockhole, but marginally outside off, and Iyer opened his bat face to squeeze it between backward point and short third. With Shashank Singh also finding his six-hitting range at the other end, PBKS were coasting now. There was still room, however, for some nerves.

Mohamed Salah's work ethic for Liverpool against Chelsea savaged by Wayne Rooney as Man Utd legend makes Cristiano Ronaldo point

As Liverpool lost a third successive game across all competitions, Premier League legend Wayne Rooney accused Reds talisman Mohamed Salah of "watching" Conor Bradley get torn apart by Chelsea behind him and doing very little to help. Last season, Salah openly praised Liverpool boss Arne Slot for taking away the defensive responsibility that Jurgen Klopp had previously insisted on.

  • 'I would question Salah's work ethic'

On the latest episode of across BBC platforms, Rooney suggested that Salah should be doing more work off the ball that benefits the team around him.

Right-back Bradley was often isolated, eventually withdrawn at half-time as Slot shuffled his team.

"We know he doesn't always get back and defend as much, but in the Chelsea game his full-back was getting torn apart and he was watching," Rooney said of Salah, calling on others to drill it into the Egyptian superstar that he needs to be doing more.

"He's not getting back and helping, and players like [Virgil] Van Dijk and the leaders in the dressing room should be telling him, 'you need to help out'," Rooney continued.

"That was a worry and I think he has looked a bit lost over the last week. When it's going well and you're scoring goals and winning games it's great and the team will put up with that but, over the last week, I would question his work ethic. I think when you get a bit older as well, Slot maybe could have looked at that and thought, 'Chelsea are killing us down the side'."

Ronaldo example could fix Liverpool's Salah problem

Liverpool have been defensively poor so far this season, conceding nine goals in seven Premier League games. If teams can consistently exploit a weakness down the right flank, with Salah failing to sufficiently protect Bradley, or Jeremie Frimpong, those problems could worsen.

Rooney's proposed solution is to mimic how Sir Alex Ferguson found a workaround with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United.

"Move [Salah] inside and move [Florian] Wirtz out there [to the right] and still have that work ethic in there and the brilliance of Salah to try and score goals. The best managers see that and adjust," Rooney explained, calling on Slot to identify and resolve the issue.

"I'm not saying you leave him out of the team. We had that with Ronaldo at Manchester United who similarly wouldn't track back so Fergie moves him inside, so you still have the balance of the team and the work getting done. He moves him inside so he is still on the pitch because he's always got a chance of scoring goals and winning games."

  • Salah glad about diminished defensive duties

In what could have been perceived as a dig at former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, Salah thanked Slot for "listening" to his request to do less defending than he had to before, when speaking towards the end of last season about his redefined role in the team.

The 33-year-old claimed his 57 goals and assists across all competitions in 2024-25 were a direct result of Slot's differing approach and willingness to allow him to largely disregard defensive duties.

"You can see the numbers. Now I don't have to defend much. The tactics are quite different. I said 'as long as you rest me defensively I will provide offensively', so I am glad that I did," Salah explained at the time.

"He listened a lot and you can see the numbers. When you play in the Premier League you have to defend but I said that I can gamble and somehow I can make a difference. My number of assists shows that you can create chances as well."

Is Salah still justified for not defending?

If Salah's excuse for not willingly defending in order to preserve himself to attack, his numbers in the early weeks of 2025-26 are disappointing. It's just three goals in 10 appearances across all competitions so far, with a further three assists, not the kind of return that would make a team essentially defending with only 10 players worthwhile. In the Premier League alone, Salah has found the net just once in his last six appearances.

Liverpool will have to play without Salah for several matches over the Christmas period, with the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations starting on December 21 and running into the latter half of January. If Egypt go the distance, Salah could be missing for up to 10 games across four competitions. It would be sickening for Salah if Liverpool's team balance is better without him.

"Bad news" – Leeds and Farke suffer injury "blow" to £40,000-a-week star

Leeds United have been dealt an injury “blow”, with a £40,000-a-week star set for a spell on the sidelines.

Leeds start Premier League season with 1-0 win over Everton

The Whites made a perfect start to life back in the Premier League on Monday evening, beating Everton 1-0.

Summer signing Lukas Nmecha scored the winner from the penalty spot late on, with Anton Stach, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Lucas Perri all making their debuts from the start.

Since then, Leeds have brought in Noah Okafor to bolster their attacking options even further. The Switzerland international has cost the Whites up to £18m, something which Farke was delighted with.

“He has really good pace, he’s a really good dribbler, really good on the offensive one-on-one. A strong player as well. I don’t want to pressure him too much because he’s not played one game, so I’ll let him deliver before, but from his skills, he has more or less everything to impress, and it’s up to him.”

CWI introduces 'data-driven scouting system' to identify and develop local talent

West Indies, well off the pace in both men’s and women’s international cricket in recent times, will now hope to benefit from what CWI has called a “groundbreaking, data-driven scouting system aimed at identifying and developing the best cricketing talent across the region”.The system will involve senior talent managers, territorial talent identifiers, and a network of scouts combining “to provide a structured, analytical approach to talent identification”. With the West Indies Championship as their first major assignment, the scouting team will ensure that every performance is tracked, analysed, and reported, creating a clear pathway for emerging cricketers to progress to the highest levels.”Former West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan heads the team of six territorial talent identifiers, looking after Guyana, with Henderson Broomes (Barbados), Delroy Morgan (Jamaica), Samuel Spencer (Leeward Islands), Gibran Mohammed (Trinidad & Tobago) and Craig Emmanuel (Windward Islands) for company. The senior talent managers are Jamal Smith (men’s cricket) and Ann Browne-John (women’s cricket), and with four regional scouts, they would be “managing senior player data, collaborating with analysts, and assisting in selection decisions”.Related

  • Matthew Nandu eager to emulate idols Chanderpaul, Hope

  • Wily Jomel Warrican learns on the go to undo Pakistan

“We are moving beyond just relying on what we see on scorecards. This system ensures that performances are seen with context and with a focus on the skill sets displayed, tactical acumen and game awareness,” CWI director of cricket Miles Bascombe said. “We are collecting real-time data, analysing performances consistently, and making informed decisions about player development.”The key responsibilities of the territorial talent identifiers are:

  • Scouting and evaluation: attending matches and training sessions to assess players’ technical skills, physical attributes, and mental strength
  • Reporting and analysis: compiling detailed scouting reports and maintaining player performance records
  • Collaboration: working closely with coaches, selectors, and high-performance staff to refine the development pathway

“Players in the region will now be seen and evaluated by multiple talent identification operatives resulting in more information gathering, and better-balanced data on performances,” Bascombe said. “With this accountability metric in place, our network of scouts ensures that no talent goes unnoticed.”We are moving into a new era of role-based, data-driven selection that will have ripple effects across our cricket system from the way players prepare to the way we measure performances. In addition, it allows us to examine deficits in players and to optimise through our high-performance framework. However, I would like to reiterate that data-driven does not only quate to stats-based, huge emphasis will be placed on qualitative data. Beyond selection, this data will be used to refine player programming ensuring a targeted approach to getting players international-ready.”Though women’s cricket falls under the ambit of the new plan, no details have been made available yet•BCCI

The latest edition of the first-class West Indies Championship is already one round old, but will run till April 2025 and take in 24 more matches featuring eight island teams: Barbados, Combined Campuses and Colleges, Guyana, Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies Academy and Windward Islands.”The West Indies Championship is where we expect to see our next generation of Test cricketers emerge,” Bascombe said. “With this new system, we will have more eyes on players than ever before and clarity about what we are looking for. This ensures that selection methods are consistent over time and based on merit and data-backed insights.”Both West Indies’ senior men’s and women’s have underperformed on the whole of late with only the rare bright spark – like the Shamar Joseph-inspired Test win over Australia in Brisbane in January 2024 and the recent win in spin-friendly Multan over Pakistan. The men finished one from the bottom in the latest cycle of the World Test Championship and have failed to qualify for the upcoming ODI Champions Trophy, to be played in Pakistan and the UAE. The women, too, have been well behind the top teams – less than a decade on from when they were T20 world champions – and are now outside the top five in both the ICC’s ODI and T20I team rankings.

The Reds have already added one attacker in the form of Igor Jesus to their ranks this summer from Brazilian side Botafogo, but given the fact the club are competing in Europe as well as the Premier League next season, Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to add more attacking options to his side.

Furthermore, Anthony Elanga’s exit to Newcastle United means there is a void in the starting XI, and Forest are keen to fill that by signing Dan Ndoye from Bologna. The 24-year-old has been with the Italian side since 2023 and has impressed domestically and internationally in recent seasons, so much so that he is now a genuine target for the Reds.

Forest have submitted a bid to sign Ndoye from Bologna, but on the player’s side, Ndoye has already verbally agreed a deal with the Reds as they look to beat teams such as Napoli and Crystal Palace to his signature.

Should the Switzerland international move to the City Ground, he could be joined by another forward-thinking player as a possible replacement for Morgan Gibbs-White.

Nottingham Forest lead Everton in Ramsey race

According to Football Insider, Nottingham Forest are now leading the race to sign Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa.

Football Insider previously reported that Aston Villa do want to keep hold of the 24-year-old, but an offer between £40-50 million would be enough to convince Villa to sell, and Forest would be able to get to this mark, with the possibility of Gibbs-White’s exit funding the move.

The Reds are not alone in their pursuit, as Everton are also in the race to sign the attacking midfielder, but the fact Forest can offer Ramsey European football places them ahead of the Toffees.

It was even reported back in May that Ramsey is unhappy at Villa Park due to lack of game time last season. Ramsey played 46 games in all competitions last season, but the attacking midfielder only started 25 of those games, as he struggled to get ahead of some of Unai Emery’s regular picks.

Ramsey, who has been dubbed “terrific” by former Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard in the past, is under contract at Villa Park until 2027, so should Forest make a considerable offer, the Villans could use him as a PSR sacrifice.

For Forest, Ramsey would likely be seen as a direct replacement for Gibbs-White, as the former England under-21 international can play as a number 10, while he can also feature on the left flank.

Tabraiz Shamsi opts out of CSA contract to 'explore all opportunities available'

He said the move will help him “look after my family in the best way possible”

South Africa left-arm wristspinner Tabraiz Shamsi has opted out of his national contract with CSA, effective immediately. By becoming a free agent, he will now be able to participate more freely in T20 leagues across the world, without being beholden to South African obligations. Shamsi remains available for South Africa, and is expected to be part of their white-ball squads at major tournaments.”I have decided to opt out of my central contract in order to be more flexible during the domestic season, allowing me to explore all opportunities available and look after my family in the best way possible,” he said in a CSA statement. “This will not impact my ability or motivation to play for the Proteas in any way and I will always be available to play for my country whenever I am needed. It has always been my dream to bring the World Cup home to South Africa, and no franchise league will ever be more important than playing for my country.”Shamsi last played for South Africa in the T20 World Cup final against India in June, and has not been part of their ongoing tour of the UAE, which includes series against Afghanistan and Ireland. South Africa rested several senior players for the trip, and have used the matches to deepen the player pool. One of the reasons why Shamsi has opted out of his national contract might have to do with the CSA pulling him out of the PSL in Pakistan earlier this year in order to play for Titans in the CSA T20 Challenge, South Africa’s domestic T20 competition, at home. As a result, Shamsi could play in only the first four out of Karachi Kings’ ten league games, and he lost out on his match fee for the remaining six matches.Another potential ground for Shamsi letting go of his CSA deal could centre around him being made to fly back home during the CPL this year. As per Shamsi’s contract, he had to attend the CSA awards night, although he wasn’t a winner of any of the honours. However, CSA have always historically expected that contracted players attend the awards, even if it meant leaving overseas assignments midway.

But although Shamsi returned to the West Indies to resume playing in the CPL, him missing three matches for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots meant he lost portions of his match fee again. ESPNcricinfo understands the match fees from leagues amount to substantial sums, and are more lucrative than national contracts.Come 2025, the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge, South Africa’s domestic one-day tournament, which is scheduled to run from February 15 to March 16, happens to clash with the PSL. Thus, had Shamsi been contracted to CSA, his commitments with the board would have forced him to again miss portions of the PSL.Earlier this year, fast bowler Anrich Nortje had also opted out of his central contract, saying that his body wasn’t ready for all three formats of the game, and also because he wanted to play more in T20 leagues.
