Hammers react to Eddie Nketiah interest

West Ham United fans have been reacting to Fabrizio Romano’s claim that the club are interested in a move for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.

The Hammers are named as a possible suitor for the England Under-21 international, along with fellow Premier League sides Watford and Crystal Palace.

Bayer Leverkusen are also competing for his signature and are said to be intent on a permanent deal rather than a loan.

Nketiah is about to enter the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium and a recent offer from Arsenal has yet to resolve the uncertainty around his future.

Another Arsenal striker making move across London?

Back in 2018, West Ham signed another striker from Arsenal in the form of Spaniard Lucas Perez.

They paid £4million to bring him in but he only made 19 appearances for the club, scoring six goals in that time.

Twitter account West Ham Fan Zone relayed the Nketiah news, and here’s what supporters made of it.

Celtic: Summer exit likely for Ryan Christie

With Celtic set to witness a mass range of departures from Parkhead this summer, there will be some players within their ranks that supporters will be sadder to see leave than others.Losing top goal scorer Odsonne Edouard to the jaws of English football would not be ideal while watching Kristoffer Ajer pack his bags would be difficult as well.

What’s the word?

One player that hasn’t been too popular with the fans this season is Ryan Christie.

His performances have dwindled and now he could be leaving Paradise behind with his contract expiring shortly.

Rather bizarrely, the Scot’s current terms expire in January which means they face losing him for nothing next year.

Fortunately, Southampton look as though they could come to the rescue of both player and club.

According to The Sun, the Saints are interested in landing Christie during the upcoming transfer window and are aiming to watch him in action during Euro 2020.

Also interested are fellow Premier League sides Burnley and Norwich City.

Huge boost

With interest this summer comes the greater chance of actually receiving a fee for Christie, something that wouldn’t be possible next year.

That’s a positive for the club but his exit is likely to be welcomed by the supporters too.

They’ve launched some pretty scathing attacks on the Scotland international this season, bemoaning him for his abject performances.

Traditionally a number 10, Christie has been forced to play out wide for large portions of the campaign due to a prolonged injury to James Forrest.

Unfortunately, his form in that third of the pitch has been dismal.

Last term the 26-year-old racked up 20 goals and 16 assists in all competitions but as Celtic laboured to a trophyless climax, he ended the term with only seven strikes.

To sum up how dismal his form was, he only scored twice in his last 24 league outings, being torn to shreds by various sections of fans because of his long-range shooting.

At one stage this term, the attacker had managed only one goal from 51 attempts at goal from outside of the box.

Courtesy of Bhoys Analytics, a video demonstrates the ease at which Christie wastes promising opportunities. He would drift towards the edge of the area but fire an attempt wildly away from goal instead of sliding in teammates standing in a better position.

A classic example came against Ross County when the player fired five shots off target in a shoddy attacking display. He even spurned an opportunity from a matter of yards out, firing handsomely over the bar after being teed up by Edouard.

With that in mind, losing Christie should come as a boost to Celtic’s chances moving forward. It will also delight the supporters who have been left dismayed with his performances in 2020/21.

Pundit slams Lamela ahead of summer exit

Erik Lamela is probably best summed up by his derby performance against Arsenal in which he scored an exquisite rabona goal before being sent off later in the game, and his inconsistency is what stops him from reaching his full potential, according to Spurs legend Paul Stewart.

When the winger arrived from Roma back in 2013 as a replacement for Gareth Bale, he was the club’s record signing at £27 million but inconsistent season after inconsistent season even saw Bale, the man he was supposed to replace, ultimately contribute more for Tottenham Hotspur this season.

Reports have claimed that the 29-year old is all but set for a summer exit as Spurs are in desperate need of an overhaul of their squad that failed to even qualify for the Europa League this season, and are still without a manager.

£80,000-a-week man Lamela has rarely been able to maintain a starting spot under any manager and failing to live up to his price tag and he may well not be missed. That’s according to Stewart, who spoke exclusively to The Transfer Tavern:

“He scored that unbelievable goal and sometimes looks like a world-beater but we don’t see that enough from him.

“I just think his inconsistency is the reason why Spurs can afford to let him go because he just hasn’t been able to do it week in week out.”

Spurs have a young talented winger who spent the season out on loan with Hoffenheim in Ryan Sessegnon, and if the new manager fancies him then that could be the long term future of their left-hand side.

It appears very obvious that Spurs will have to spend big this summer and that may not be difficult to do if they end up losing Harry Kane as that will bring in over £100 million to the club.

Balls says Celtic need big name manager

Former Rangers defender Michael Ball has exclusively told The Transfer Tavern that Celtic need a big-name appointment to bridge the gap to their Old Firm rivals.

The Parkhead outfit were bidding to achieve an unprecedented tenth Scottish Premiership title on the bounce, but have fallen miserably short of that target, and are currently 23 points behind their Rangers, who are 90 minutes away from reaching 100 points and going the entire campaign unbeaten.

Celtic’s wretched season, which was compounded by their recent Scottish Cup exit at Ibrox, will end without silverware for the first time for 11 years.

Their poor form led to the mid-season departure of Neil Lennon, who was sacked after their embarrassing defeat to Ross County in February, with the club already out of both Europe and the Scottish League Cup.

Almost three months later, Celtic are yet to name a replacement for Lennon, although Eddie Howe remains the strong favourite to succeed him, with Jose Mourinho a shock name in the running until he was appointed at Roma following his Tottenham exit.

And Ball told The Transfer Tavern that whoever gets appointed will have a huge wait of expectation on their shoulders:

“Celtic have really high hopes, the fans have really high hopes. They are used to being successful, they know their rivals have gone above them. Early on, there was talk of Benitez coming into the club.

“Their limits and who Celtic fans want to bring will be as big of a name as possible that means they mean business. It will be interesting to see who they bring in.”

Howe wants to launch three swift moves

Eddie Howe wants to ‘press the button’ on three transfer deals ‘at the earliest possible opportunity’ once he takes over at Celtic.

That’s according to Andrew Smith, a journalist at The Scotsman.

The lowdown

The report said that ‘it is hardly revelatory’ that Howe is expected to be appointed in the coming days. He is set to become the long-term successor to Neil Lennon, who resigned at the end of February.

Celtic finished a full 25 points off their arch-rivals Rangers in last season’s Premiership, their run of nine consecutive titles ended in spectacular fashion.

The combination of a new managerial appointment, the need to strike back from this desperately poor campaign and the potential departures of players like Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer, as well as the exit of long-serving captain Scott Brown, means that a ‘comprehensive squad overhaul’ may be in the offing at Parkhead.

The latest

Smith reported that Howe wants the ‘jigsaw pieces to fall quickly into place’ when he takes over.

As well as transfers, that includes the appointment of his backroom team and of a sporting director to ‘synergise’ the new operation.

Howe, whom the Daily Record also expect to take up his new role this week, is tipped to greenlight a flurry of moves straight off the bat once he takes the reins at Parkhead.

The verdict

Howe may already have been identifying targets for a number of weeks. After all, it was first reported back at the start of April that he had held constructive talks with the club.

It wouldn’t be a surprise, then, if it was simply a matter of ‘pressing the button’ when he’s officially in his post.

For Celtic fans, multiple early signings would constitute an encouraging statement of intent and symbolise the beginning of a new era.

In other news, a third source has weighed in on the reported Eddie Howe timeline.

Galatasaray eye Everton’s Josh King

Carlo Ancelotti cannot stand in Joshua King’s way of sealing a transfer to Galatasaray this summer, as the Turkish giants reportedly plot an eye-watering offer for the Everton striker.

What’s the word?

According to Football Insider, Galatasaray are prepared to offer King a huge payday in hopes of enticing the Norwegian to the Super Lig.

King is currently set to leave Goodison Park at the end of the season with Everton expected to release the 29-year-old when his contract expires in June.

Ancelotti has not seen enough from the former Bournemouth forward to believe he is worth keeping on, despite the Toffees having the option to seal a longer-term deal.

King’s impending status as a free agent has now put Galatasaray chiefs on alert, as they look to add a star forward to Fatih Terim’s plans.

The 54-cap international has been deprived of a regular role on Merseyside since his last-gasp arrival on Deadline Day of the winter market, with Ancelotti awarding King all eight of his appearances from the bench.

Galatasaray would be expected to afford the £9m-rated attacker a more prominent role, with the Turk Telekom Stadium natives tipped to offer King a long-term contract with a lucrative salary in order to secure his signature.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-everton-news-and-views” title=”Latest Everton news and views!”]

King has previously been linked with Cimbom’s Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce after they held discussions with his agent, while Celtic have been touted as a potential destination should they appoint Eddie Howe as their new manager.

Should Everton let King join Galatasaray?

Whether or not King is willing to join Galatasaray given his alleged prior connections with Fenerbahce remains to be seen, but Ancelotti cannot develop cold feet over letting the striker leave Everton this summer.

King has proven to be an absolute flop since his arrival at Goodison Park and will have cost the Toffees £3m by the time his contract expires, having paid Bournemouth £2m to take over the final 21 weeks of his £45,000-per-week deal.

Everton have seen no return for their investment thus far with King failing to score in any of his eight appearances, which total a mere 118 minutes, having yet taken a single shot or offer a key pass in royal blue, per WhoScored.

The only players to have featured as or more often under Ancelotti in the Premier League this term and to have also failed to register a single shot are goalkeepers Jordan Pickford and Robin Olsen, with even left-back Niels Nkounkou attempting an effort during his sole 69-minute appearance.

King’s struggles have seen his spell at Goodison Park be described as “disappointing” by the Liverpool Echo’s Connor O’Neill, who notes Ancelotti has overlooked the former Manchester United trainee in recent games due to a shift in tactics.

Injury ruled King out of Everton’s draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday night but he is expected to be fit for Friday’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur. And it will be telling to see how frequently he features over the final eight games of the top-flight campaign, or if an exit is what’s best for all.

AND in other news, an “outstanding” talent is keen to join Everton this summer, but there’s a hitch

Rangers: Hutton on interest in Kamara

In a recent interview, Alan Hutton discussed the interest in Glasgow Rangers centre-midfielder, Glen Kamara, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Having been an integral part of Steven Gerrard’s title-winning side this season, with the 25-year-old missing just five Scottish Premiership games over the course of Gers’ campaign, the Rangers manager recently admitted that he is working hard on attempting to tie Kamara down to a new deal at the club.

Speaking to Rangers TV, Gerrard said: “Glen is someone who we are still trying and talking to commit here as he is a big player for us. There are a lot of players we are working with to try and get them tied up here as they are so important for the team moving forward.”

However, in an interview with Football Insider, Hutton claimed that Gerrard’s comments regarding Kamara’s contract did not fill him with confidence, as well as discussing the amount of interest that the midfielder is likely to receive in the upcoming transfer window.

He said: “Those kind of words, it doesn’t sound great. I mean, obviously, there are other clubs that are looking at him. That’s only going to happen when a player such as himself plays at such a high standard week in, week out. I think there’s more to come, I think he can get better.”

Transfer Tavern Take

Indeed, as Hutton points out, there have been reports of significant interest in Kamara’s services this summer, with the Daily Mail claiming that Brighton & Hove Albion, Southampton, Burnley, Leeds United and Watford are all keeping a very close eye on the midfielder.

As such, despite the fact that the Finland international has until the summer of 2023 left on his contract at Ibrox, it would indeed appear a wise move for Rangers to tie him down to a new deal as soon as possible, which would then allow the club in order to demand a higher transfer fee for the £4.05 million-rated man, which could potentially put a number of clubs off a move.

Leicester fans slam Taylor vs Man City

Many Leicester City fans have been left to slam Anthony Taylor during the first half of their home game against Manchester City in the Premier League.

The referee decided to give Pep Guardiola’s men a dangerous free kick on the edge of the box in what looked like quite a soft foul.

Kevin De Bruyne ended up taking the set piece and hit the cross bar in what was a big sigh of relief for the East Midlands club.

Nonetheless, this did not stop several members of the King Power faithful slamming the decision on Twitter, as they felt that if that shot had gone in, in which it nearly almost did, then they would have been very hard done by in what is already a difficult game for them against MCFC.

These Foxes slammed the decision made by Taylor, with one LCFC supporter even going as far as to claim that he is ‘awful’:

Celtic should unleash Adam Montgomery

The story of Celtic starlet Adam Montgomery is an intriguing one. The talented Hoops prodigy came through the ranks as a striker and forward but he’s been reborn in a new position this term.

He is now a left-back and has gone from running rampant in forward positions to keeping players with similar qualities to his at bay.

Celtic are a club with plenty of pedigree in that position too. They let Andy Robertson go when he was in the U15s while they have recently housed the likes of Aaron Hickey and Kieran Tierney too.

None of them are at the club anymore but Montgomery is very much in the boat of trying to replicate the likes of Tierney.

He was a fan favourite at Paradise and won a multitude of honours before departing for Arsenal in a £25m move two years ago. Celtic have since struggled to replace him, however.

Diego Laxalt was brought in on loan from AC Milan but he is set to head back to Italy in the summer. Greg Taylor has developed nicely in recent months but they could save millions in the transfer window by forgetting about new recruits and bringing through Montgomery instead.

The 18-year-old is yet to make a first-team appearance but has been on the bench in recent weeks and is now training with the seniors.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-celtic-manager-and-transfer-news-howe-favre-edouard-desmond” title= “Read the latest Celtic manager and transfer news!”]

He has come a long way since being a plucky forward but he certainly deserves an opportunity to play. After all, the Bhoys are witnessing a number of young players heading for the exit door as a result of no senior opportunities.

Cameron Harper has already headed back to America while Karamoko Dembele’s future is uncertain too. He is out of contract and it doesn’t look as though he’ll pen new terms.

Montgomery’s rise, however, could make up for their exits. Whether it’s in Dembele’s position on the wing or further back in defence, there are a number of players he could succeed in the squad.

His sheer versatility would also be a huge option for John Kennedy or any new manager that arrives.

Speaking about his transition from attack to defence, the teenager said a few weeks ago: “When [changing position] was first to put me, I was a bit ‘ahh’. I am a tricky winger normally, I like beating players and getting at people.”

The youngster added: “The way Celtic play full-backs is very attacking so going back to full-back, it hasn’t been a massive difference for me. I’m really enjoying it.”

Montgomery’s mentality and attitude to the game certainly has to be admired. His maturity appears to be well beyond his age.

Based on that and his ability to play in various roles, he has to be handed a chance. He could save Celtic from making some costly blows in the transfer market.

Pundit tips Wijnaldum to leave Liverpool

Dean Windass has exclusively told Football FanCast that he expects Georginio Wijnaldum to leave Liverpool this summer following months of speculation regarding his future at Anfield.

The Dutch midfielder has entered the final six months of his deal on Merseyside, and has been locked in contract talks for a number of months, with Wijnaldum yet to accept Liverpool’s offer.

And with Wijnaldum’s deal set to expire this summer, strong reports have suggested that the former Newcastle man is now expected to join Barcelona on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Wijnaldum, rated at £36m by Transfermarkt, has been one of the many success stories of the Jurgen Klopp era, helping Liverpool to both Champions League and Premier League glory in recent seasons, most notably scoring a three-minute brace in the Reds’ incredible comeback against Barcelona at Anfield in 2019 in the semi-finals.

But with his career with the Reds appears to be drawing to a close, Windass admitted that if the Dutchman was going to extend his contract with the Liverpool that a deal would have been agreed by now.

He told Football FanCast: “It’s been going on for a few weeks. If he was going to sign, he would have signed by now, so he won’t be there. Whoever signs him has got a wonderful sitting midfield player. They can’t entice him to stay, maybe he doesn’t think Liverpool can get back to where they were.

“Liverpool players have let the manager down this year. You go and win the title by playing extremely well all season and it looks as if they’ve gone ‘well we’ve won the league, we can go back to not winning it for another 30 years’. Liverpool Football Club will want better than that, and he’ll be a big loss.”
