Chris Cairns28-Feb-2002When you win there can often be different kinds of emotion.When we beat Australia in the first VB Series game in Melbourne in the beginning of this period of 15 successive one-day matches there was pure euphoria. Beating South Africa in Brisbane was disbelief and huge joy at a surprising victory.When we won the game on Tuesday night the feeling was relief.Sure there was happiness at what we had achieved but we all knew that the season would be judged on what happened in Dunedin.Wrongly or rightly this happens in sport often.Just ask the All Blacks in last year’s Tri-Nations.If they had won that game in Sydney and not lost it in the last second, would there have been as big a public examination resulting in pressure for the coach to stand down?If we had lost on Tuesday night what would have been the headlines?As it is we won the series and have achieved a satisfactory outcome. But are there things that we need to address even though we have won?Yes there are.Too often we win games through an individual performance. While this may sound strange, to be a complete side capable of winning next year’s World Cup we need to put more performances together as a unit, to get everyone chipping in with their efforts.Then we will still have brilliant individual efforts to win games but hopefully in between these times we can lift our winning percentages with team performances.Before the game in Dunedin, the batters focused their efforts into batting, real batting. Not the traditional hitting over the top stuff normally reserved for the one-day game. No balls were hit in the air at net practice and batsmanship was the goal.This was personified in the match by Craig McMillan. He got in and then played a great supporting role to Nathan Astle.And what an innings from Nathan!He loves playing in Dunedin and after getting a few dodgy decisions in two of the one-dayers, the English felt the full brunt of his talent.Nath is a bloke who doesn’t say too much and prefers to let his batting do the talking. I have played a lot of cricket with him and the innings the other night was just awesome and right up there with his best.The game itself revealed to the English that they have areas to work on.One of them is off-the-field where last week Andy Caddick stated that this English team was better man for man than us and that they would win the series.Now, he may have been trying to get some confidence back in his side by saying these things but to do it publicly can often backfire on you.Maybe he should just focus on getting in the England team first.Now to the Test series and to the whites! I am really looking forward to this series as I think we are playing very good Test cricket.It will be important for the guys to get back into Test mode but having a week or so off, and a game before the Test, will definitely help.

Dean Windass thinks that Aaron Ramsey would walk into West Ham’s team.

The Welsh midfielder, who has 40 Premier League goals to his name, is currently playing his football with Juventus in Italy but has struggled to make an impact since leaving Arsenal two years ago.

Ramsey has managed just six goals and as many assists in 65 appearances for the Old Lady and is being strongly linked with a stunning return to the Premier League this summer.

However, whilst the 30-year-old could be back in London after the European Championships, a move to east rather than north of the capital might be on the cards.

That’s because reports believe that the former Gunners midfielder’s agent has received offers from both Everton and West Ham as he looks to get his career back on track following his tricky two-year spell in Italy.

But Ramsey is currently giving a timely reminder of his capabilities having scored Wales’ opener in their key victory over Turkey in the Euro’s which helped them secure second place.

Windass said his goals make him a rare breed in modern day football. Asked whether he walk into the current West Ham team, he exclusively told Football FanCast:

“Yeah. If he has a good Euros because he’s on trial now. He will know he’s on trial, and Premier League teams will be watching him.

“Has he gone to Italy because it’s easy and a slow pace? I would sign Aaron Ramsey because you don’t get many midfield players that get you goals, and he gives you that.”

Celtic are watching attacking midfielder Ryan Gauld ahead of a possible cut-price move, according to reporter Manuel Veth.

The Lowdown: Gauld set to be a free agent

Gauld is currently under contract with Portuguese side Farense until the end of the month.

The 25-year-old, who was dubbed the ‘baby Messi’ back in 2013, scored nine goals and registered seven assists in 33 league appearances last season.

His Transfermarkt valuation has rocketed from £360,000 to £4.5m in just over a year, and it seems as if a club could get a real bargain by possibly signing Gauld on a free transfer next month.

The Latest: Celtic’s interest

Transfermarkt and Forbes reporter Veth shared an update on Vancouver Whitecaps’ move for Gauld.

In his social media post, Veth name-checked Celtic, claiming the Hoops are watching the attacking midfielder.

“More on Ryan Gauld to VWFC. Several clubs, including Sporting are interested in Farense’s playmaker. Another club watching him is Celtic. That would explain Vancouver’s substantial bid for the player.”

The Verdict: A perfect Christie replacement?

Should Celtic manage to pip Vancouver Whitecaps to a deal for Gauld, they could have found a perfect Ryan Christie replacement for nothing.

Christie has been linked with a €5m move to French side Monaco, and statistically, Gauld matched the Celtic man last season, as per WhoScored.

The pair both picked up six man of the match awards last season. Gauld scored five more in the league, whereas Christie registered one more assist.

Gauld edged Christie when it came to average amount of key passes, dribbles completed and fouls earned, so if the Hoops firm up their interest and land Gauld’s services, they could be better off both on the pitch and financially with Christie’s reported exit.

The Sport Relief Kwik Cricket Tournament 2002 and a Pay to Play cricket weekend are among the exciting events being organised by ECB in support of Sport Relief.A joint Comic Relief and BBC concept, Sport Relief is aimed at uniting theworld of sport to raise money for vulnerable children and young people, both in the UK and across the world.The campaign will culminate in a entertaining night on Saturday 13 July on BBC1 featuring sport, celebrities, entertainment, and fundraising – hosted by BBC cricket presenter Jamie Theakston alongside Gary Lineker, Ulrika Jonsson and Clare Balding.Alongside the Football Association, the Lawn Tennis Association, the RugbyFootball Union and other sports bodies, the ECB hope to raise considerable funds for the Sport Relief pot.One of the big ideas across several sports is Pay to Play, with sports men and women at every level being encouraged to pay to play their own sport.Cricketers all over the country – from England captains Nasser Hussain andClare Connor and the rest of national squads to local village players – will be asked to ‘pay to play’ the game on a nominated weekend during the summer. This is looking like being the weekend of 15/16 June, but has still to be confirmed.As a grassroots initiative the involvement of children is key to the campaign, and the Sport Relief Kwik Cricket Tournament 2002 will provide the younger cricketers with their chance to drive the funds total in the right direction.Fundraising takes place during the second round of the competition when theKwik Cricketers taking part can be sponsored for every run their team scores. BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone provided an update on Crystal Palace’s pursuit of Patrick Vieira on Thursday.

And, as to be expected, a number of Eagles supporters gave their thoughts to the news on social media.

News broke on Tuesday regarding Vieira and Palace, with the two parties reaching an agreement in principle over the vacant managerial role.

Three days on and a move is yet to be announced, however, Stone admitted that there are no major issues and the Frenchman will be installed as Roy Hodgson’s replacement.

Vieira has been out of work since December after his sacking at Ligue 1 club Nice but now looks set to return to the dugout with the Eagles.

Recent reports elsewhere have suggested that Vieira could be handed an £80m transfer kitty this summer at Selhurst Park, with 11 senior players now out of contract at Selhurst Park.

Após defender a Seleção Brasileira Sub-20 no Sul-Americano da categoria, no Equador, o zagueiro Lyanco se reapresentou ao São Paulo nesta segunda-feira. Ele atuou torneio continental entre os dias 18 de janeiro e 11 de fevereiro, e depois recebeu duas semanas de folga pois não teve férias entre 2016 e 2017, já que estava com a equipe de Rogério Micale desde o final do ano passado – período de preparação. E o zagueiro disse que estava com saudade.

– Já estava com saudade do clube. É foi um sentimento diferente, porque estava com vontade de voltar para casa e acabar com esta ansiedade. Não via a hora de pisar no CT de novo e trabalhar com os meus companheiros. Estou feliz de ter voltado. Reencontrei o pessoal e estou contente de estar próximos dos meus amigos novamente – afirmou, ao site oficial do clube.

De acordo com o defensor, a experiência de atuar na competição sul-americana agregou mais bagagem neste seu início de trajetória no futebol.

– Foi importante disputar o torneio, porque vivi coisas novas. Era uma grande responsabilidade e isso me fez entender melhor o campeonato sul-americano. Sem dúvida, me ajudou bastante e acrescentou na minha carreira – analisou Lyanco.

Apesar do retorno, a passagem de Lyanco pelo São Paulo está perto do fim. Isso porque o clube já encaminhou sua venda para o Atlético de Madrid (ESP). Com a juventus (ITA) ainda com esperança, o jogador deve ser negociado no meio do ano. Mas ele fala em brigar por espaço no São Paulo.

– Estava ansioso para voltar, porque quero ajudar os meus companheiros nos treinos e nos jogos. Estou aqui para somar e viver intensamente o dia a dia do clube para aprender cada vez mais. Acompanhei os jogos pela televisão neste período e me deu ainda mais vontade de jogar, porque voltei com disposição para isso – afirmou.

Com Lyanco, retornou também o goleiro Lucas Perri, que agora deve ganhar o lugar de Thiago como quarto goleiro do elenco.
