Reims striker Boulaye Dia has admitted he is flattered by reported interest from Premier League clubs including Crystal Palace, according to France Football.

What’s the word?

Reports emerged in the past month suggesting that Roy Hodgson’s side were lining up a potential bid for the Reims forward in the January transfer window, and judging by his latest comments, it appears that their interest hasn’t gone unnoticed.

He said: “It’s a new source of motivation (to be linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs). It’s always flattering – but you have to stay focused.

“You hear too many things. Your name is everywhere.”

The 24-year-old has been in prolific form for the French side, providing 14 goals and one assist in 25 appearances across all competitions, per Transfermarkt.

Bye-bye Michy Batshuayi?

The 3-cap Senegal international centre-forward, who is currently valued at £10m via Transfermarkt, is one of the hottest properties in French football after an outstanding season and Palace are likely to face stiff competition if they wish to secure his services. Dia finds himself on the radar of Serie A giants AC Milan and has also been linked with moves to Arsenal and West Ham in recent months.

Whether a move to Selhurst Park is still on the cards, however, is another matter entirely after Palace signed French striker Jean-Philippe Mateta from Bundesliga side Mainz on an initial 18-month loan with the option to make the move permanent.

However, with Michy Batshuayi set to return to Chelsea after his loan spell expires at the end of this season, the Eagles may look to bring in Dia as an alternative.

Indeed, in Dia, Hodgson could find a suitable replacement, if not an instant upgrade on Batshuayi, who bagged six goals in 13 games during his first stint at Selhurst Park, but has struggled to replicate that form at club level this season. The 27-year-old has only managed to find the back of the net once in 17 appearances in his second spell so far, surely putting any potential permanent move in doubt.

In comparison, Dia – who is three years his junior – has largely picked up where he left off last season, having scored seven times in Ligue 1 before the campaign was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, per Transfermarkt.

A return of 12 goals this season sees him ranked fourth in Ligue 1 in a leaderboard topped by none other than Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe, via WhoScored.

He’s also averaged a whopping two shots per game in the top flight, which is more than the likes of Christian Benteke and Eberechi Eze – Batshuayi doesn’t even come close to those kind of numbers as he is averaging just 0.7 shots per game in the Premier League this season.

If Hodgson can encourage Palace chairman Steve Parish to dip into his pockets, then he should sanction a move for Dia as soon as possible.

تُعد تلك هي المرة الحادية عشر التي يشارك بها منتخب مالي في كأس أمم إفريقيا، ولم يسبق له تحقيق لقب البطولة ولكن أفضل إنجاز حققه كان مركز الوصيف وذلك في عام 1972 في النسخة التي استضافتها الكاميرون، حيث خسر في المباراة النهائية أمام الكونغو بنتيجة 3-2.

واحتل منتخب مالي المركز الثالث في البطولة الإفريقية مرتين، عامي 2012 و2013، والمركز الرابع ثلاث مرات، أعوام 1994 و2002 و2004.

وكانت آخر مشاركة لمنتخب مالي في كأس أمم إفريقيا في عام 2019، النسخة التي استضافتها مصر، حيث خرج من دور الـ16 بعد الخسارة أمام كوت ديفوار بهدف نظيف.

Former Scotland international Alan Hutton believes that Eddie Howe is the “better choice” that Celtic can choose from over Rafael Benitez.

Howe over Benitez?

Neil Lennon recently resigned from his position as the club’s manager in what was his second stint in charge at Parkhead – following a desperately disappointing 2020/21 campaign.

John Kennedy has taken charge of the Hoops for the remainder of the campaign, with the green half of Glasgow 18 points behind their arch-rivals Rangers in the standings.

Several names have been linked with taking Lennon’s place, including both Howe and Benitez – as well as Frank Lampard who was recently dismissed by Chelsea.

But Hutton believes that the former Bournemouth boss would be Celtic’s best option, despite the amount of success that Benitez has had over the years.

“What do you do? Do you go for experience? The likes of (Rafa) Benitez and people like that are getting bandied about, I don’t see that happening,” he told Football Insider.

“I think what looks more of a better choice to me is the likes of Eddie Howe. He’s a standout to me because he’s young, used to having to build teams with not huge amounts of money.

“He’s been very successful in his career already. I think you need that kind of hungry manager that loves what he’s doing, loves to build. He fits that bill for me.

“Someone like that could be a good appointment. It’s whether they could entice him up to do a job in Scotland or not.

“It’s a huge decision and it’s one that I’m sure they’re not taking lightly.”

Transfer Tavern Verdict

This is quite an eye-opening statement for Hutton to make. We believe Celtic should consider all of the options available to them right now – not just one man in particular.

The fact that Benitez has managed and triumphed at some of the biggest clubs in world football though should not be overlooked. Let’s not forget, the Hoops simply have to regain the Scottish Premiership title at the first time of asking – second place is last place in Glasgow.

Of course, the pressure would be on almost immediately if the results didn’t go their way, but we still think that Benitez would bring a stronger hand than Howe.

Paul Scholes has begged Jack Grealish to leave Aston Villa and sign for Manchester United – a signing that would prove to be brilliant for the Red Devils.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have long been linked with a move for the attacker but as yet, a move has not come to fruition.

Now, former Red Devils midfielder Scholes has appealed to the 25-year-old that “he needs to get out” of Villa Park and as the calls for a move get louder, it only makes sense for the United to make a move.

First and foremost, Grealish is a fantastic player, a statement that his statistics prove.

The Villa captain is currently in the midst of his most productive top-flight campaign so far, having scored six goals and provided 12 assists.

It could even be argued that his numbers should be even better with the three-time England international contributing two shots and 3.2 key passes per game in all competitions this season, according to WhoScored.

His importance to Villa is emphasised even more when considering he has directly been involved in 47% of their Premier League goals throughout 2020/21, a huge reason why the Villans have managed to drag themselves way clear of any relegation dogfight.

Of course, with better players around him such as Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood, his output would surely rise even more.

Any move for Grealish would not be cheap, though. He still has over four years left to run on his most recent contract at Villa Park, whilst he is also rated at £45m.

Having kept a close eye on the player’s development in his time at the club, Dean Smith will also be desperate to keep Grealish, having recently waxed lyrical about his ‘super-high level’.

He would certainly bring a different dimension to the Manchester United attack and that’s why Ed Woodward, Solskjaer and Grealish should all listen to Scholes’ advice and ensure that the midfielder gets to Old Trafford sooner rather than later.

It would give United another excellent forward player and give Grealish a chance to shine at one of the world’s biggest clubs, a chance he has more than earned.
