When it comes to Sunderland, it’s clear what the issue is – they don’t score enough goals.

Danny Graham and Will Grigg are yet to find the back of the net at all this term and last season’s top scorer – Chris Maguire – only scored ten in League One.

Things have improved slightly with the rejuvenation of Charlie Wyke. The tall striker has been superb this campaign and already has two goals under Lee Johnson, taking his tally for the season to ten.

Yet, Johnson isn’t completely satisfied yet. That’s because he admits that Sunderland lack pace and directness in attack, something he wants to address in January with the addition of someone who can stretch the play.

Of course, the introduction of Jack Diamond has helped proceedings. The talented youngster has amassed 1.6 dribbles per game – the highest of any player at the Stadium of Light.

That being said, they clearly need at least one addition in the final third. Could that be Barnsley’s Luke Thomas? It was reported a few days ago that Sunderland and Oxford United were considering a move for the Tykes attacker.

The forward, who earns £6k-per-week, hasn’t found a goal in 2020/21 but it’s important to consider that he contributed to nine strikes for Coventry at this level in 2018/19. Possessed with “lots of pace” according to his manager at the time Mark Robins, he’s a player that could add plenty to Johnson’s side.

The key word there is could. All you need to do is look at the spell Antoine Semenyo had from last January onwards. Signed on loan from a Championship club in the winter market, the winger arrived with pace to burn and dangerous energy.

That’s alarmingly similar to Thomas, so Sunderland will need to hope his spell doesn’t end up going the same way.

After Semenyo signed temporary terms with the Black Cats, he started just once and failed to score. Phil Parkinson had high hopes for the 20-year-old but he wasn’t given a fair enough chance to show what he was capable of.

If Kristjaan Speakman secures a deal for Thomas he will need assurances that Johnson will play him. Any such move will be rendered pointless otherwise. Last January tells you all you need to know.

وأفاد مراسل “بطولات”، أن أرسين فينجر مدرب آرسنال الإنجليزي السابق ضمن الحضور، بالإضافة إلى وجود رئيس الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم “فيفا”، جياني إنفانتينو.

كما يتواجد ضمن الحضور وزير الشباب والرياضة، أشرف صبحي.

وخلال الجمعية العمومية، ظهرت الكرة الخاصة بكأس أمم إفريقيا المقرر انطلاقها يناير المقبل، وكأس البطولة أيضًا يزين عمومية كاف.

“بطولات” يقدم لكم متابعة حصرية لعمومية الاتحاد الإفريقي لكرة القدم كاف، وأهم القرارات التي سيتم اتخاذها:

انطلاق الجمعة العمومية بحضور كل الدول القارة الإفريقية، باستثناء كينيا ومدغشقر.

أوضح: “إفريقيا هي البيت الكبير الذي يحتوى الجميع، وستظل كل ما تحمله القارة الإفريقية من تطلعات وطموحات جزء من أچندة الدولة المصرية”.

وأضاف: “أبارك لموتسيبي على رئاسة الكاف، وكل الشكر والتقدير إيضا لچياني إنفانتينو رئيس الفيفا”.

وتابع: “الدولة المصرية تضع كل الإمكانيات لاستضافة المنافسات الإفريقية بالتعاون مع اشقائنا الإفارقه”.

قال: “هاني أبو ريدة رجل مصري معروف عالميًا، وفي عالم كرة القدم، ولأول مرة كأس العالم سيقام في بلد عربي، لأول مرة كأس العالم في الشرق الأوسط، نحن نؤكد إن ليس هناك اقصاء في كرة القدم”.

وأضاف: “المصريون يستطيعون البناء هذا ما رأيناه في مقر اتحاد الكرة الجديد، نحن ملتزمون بالاستثمار في البنية التحتية الإفريقية، على الأقل لابد أن تكون كل دولة إفريقية تملك ملعب مجهز لاستضافة أي مباراة دولية”.

وتابع: “نحن بحاجة إلى حماية كرة القدم، ونفكر دائمًا أن تكون الكرة قريبة من الشباب الصغير، هناك من يفضل إقامة كأس العالم كل عامين وهناك من يرفض، الكبار دائما في القمة يرفضون التغيير، لإنهم يرغبوا أن لا يتغير أي شيء”.

وأكمل: “بالنسبة البطولة دوري السوبر الإفريقي، الموهبة المتواجدة في إفريقيا ليس لها نظير في العالم، دوري السوبر الإفريقي سينعكس إيجابيًا على الكرة الإفريقية وعلى كاف، سيكون هناك ترويج إيجابي تجاريًا بين كاف وفيفا”.

وواصل: “25 مليون دولار ذهبوا للكرة الإفريقية في وقت جائحة كورونا، سيكون هناك 40% زيادة من الإيرادات، سيتم توزيعها على الاتحادات الإفريقية”.

وأردف: “الحكام مثلهم مثل كل البشر يرتكبون الأخطاء، سيتواجد الڤار في المونديال، ونستهدف أن يكون الحكام الأفارقة أفضل وأفضل وذلك من خلال التدريب، إن ارتكب الحكم خطأ واحدًا سيستمر”.

The Athletic’s Dominic Fifield confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Crystal Palace winger Jeffrey Schlupp will miss at least three months after he suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday’s Premier League victory over Sheffield United, which will no doubt be a huge blow for Roy Hodgson ahead of the FA Cup clash with Wolves.

Schlupp has established himself as a first-team regular starter under Hodgson. Since his arrival in 2017, the 28-year-old has made over a hundred appearances for Palace across all competitions, via Transfermarkt.

He has made 12 starts out of 15 games in the Premier League this season, and struck two goals, one apiece against Spurs and Sheffield United, respectively.

The former England and Liverpool manager has praised the “underrated” Schlupp for his performances and the impact he has made having had to adapt to playing in different positions, and it will be the first time he has missed a large chunk of games since this time last year.

Hodgson had previously suggested that the Ghana international had “felt a hamstring pull” but it seems that couldn’t have been much further from the truth as further scans revealed the full extent of the damage.

Eberechi Eze will most likely replace Schlupp on the left wing against Wolves, having made an appearance as a substitute shortly before half-time against the Blades, and the 22-year-old will be hoping he can make a similar impact to impress Hodgson after he scored a sublime solo goal at Selhurst Park.

However, it could prove to be a tough test against the likes of Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto as Palace look to redeem themselves after drawing a blank against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side at the Molineux Stadium in the Premier League last year, so Hodgson will need his young charge to be at his very best if they are to steal a march on their closest rivals.

Whilst the Palace boss will be pleased with Eze’s progress, there’s no doubt Schlupp’s absence will be a bitter blow for Hodgson.

O próprio treinador admitiu que o primeiro tempo do Botafogo contra o Resende foi inaceitável. O mesmo Ricardo Gomes entende que, no segundo tempo, a equipe melhorou um pouco. Mas há controvérsias. No primeiro lance de perigo da segunda etapa, por exemplo, foi Jefferson quem precisou fazer grande defesa.

O time de General Severiano se impôs, realmente, depois da parada técnica da segunda etapa, quando, mais organizado, passou a trocar passes no campo de ataque. O time adversário parecia cansado – há pelo menos duas edições do Carioca que os times grandes, com mais tempo de preparação, não penam fisicamente contra os menores, que se preparam desde novembro.

O fato é que as investidas ao gol de Arthur foram esporádicas demais. Um chute de Bruno Silva aqui, a bola na trave de Gegê acolá, o quase gol de Leandro no fim do jogo. É muito pouco. Como uma vitória do Resende, na primeira etapa, não seria injusta – duas bolas na trave – o resultado final poderia ter sido bem diferente.

O Botafogo tem suas limitações, sim. Mas não é e não pode ser tão pobre de virtudes contra um time como o Resende, por melhor que este seja. É preciso melhorar bastante. Mas é preferível penar e vencer, já que está sendo possível.

وينتهي عقد أشرف بن شرقي مع الزمالك بنهاية الموسم الكروي الجاري، ومن حق اللاعب التوقيع لأي ناد آخر خلال فترة الانتقالات الشتوية القادمة، ولم يحسم موقفه من التجديد للقلعة البيضاء حتى الآن.

وأضاف عموتة بأن الزمالك يعتبر من كبار أندية إفريقيا، وتمنى للقلعة البيضاء التوفيق سواء مع بن شرقي أو بدونه.

يذكر، أن المغرب تمكن من الفوز برباعية نظيفة أمام فلسطين في المباراة التي جمعت بينهما مساء أمس ضمن الجولة الأولى من دور المجموعات بكأس العرب.

One query that some Wolves fans could be asking right now is “why they we sufficiently replace Diogo Jota?”.

The now-Liverpool winger departed Molineux in the summer for a fee of £41m and as his successor, they brought in £35.6m striker Fabio Silva. Though, he has scored just once since arriving in the Midlands.

Clearly, up to this stage, he has simply not been good enough and there are no guarantees that he ever will be. Adama Traore has, at least, found form over the last few weeks, though. He scored a beautiful goal against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup but there are still fears that he could leave for Leeds United.

Fortunately, the Old Gold reportedly have a player in mind who could succeed him.

That happens to Middlesbrough winger Marcus Tavernier. Nuno Santo’s men have reportedly registered their interest in the 21-year-old this month, but getting any move over the line could be difficult.

That’s because Tavernier has no interest in even considering leaving Boro until a formal bid is made for his services.

Capable of playing out wide, through the middle or even at left-back he’d add a phenomenal layer of versatility to this Wolves side, but most importantly, he’d give them even more threat in the final third.

Tavernier has contributed to five goals in the Championship this term and you only need to assess his virtuoso display against Brentford in the FA Cup last weekend to understand what kind of a player he is.

Like Traore, Tavernier is a physical unit, exemplified by the eight duels he won in that game. Most impressively, though, he completed a mammoth six key passes.

That means that, in one game, he provided half a dozen goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates. For context, that’s more key passes either than Traore or Pedro Neto have managed in a single game this season.

The former has managed a game-high three key passes this term while Neto has registered a match-high of four. It’s clear, therefore, that Tavernier could add even more creativity to Nuno’s team than what Traore currently offers and with Wolves having lost Raul Jimenez through injury, they don’t have the clinical striker they once had. Thus, they need to create more clear cut chances in order to score.

Given the way they struggled to break Everton down in their 2-1 defeat on Monday without Traore and Daniel Podence, Tavernier would be a fantastic addition to the squad.

If he could being his creative spark to Wolves, that would be a huge boost to Nuno and the other forward players at Molineux.

For a further glimpse of how the Boro attacker did on Saturday, he also performed two dribbles. Evidently, he is well-versed when it comes to beating a man. It’s no surprise, based on how he played at the weekend, to hear that Tony Pulis previously described him as “brilliant.”

West Brom will have to pull off an upset as their battle against relegation continues this evening when they welcome Manchester City to the Hawthorns.

It’s a big ask for Sam Allardyce’s men to get a result, but get a result they must as they are six points adrift of safety at the half-way point of the Premier League campaign.

Pep Guardiola has steered his side to ten straight victories, whilst the Baggies have won just once since Big Sam was appointed – a call that came less than two days after a 1-1 draw in this very fixture in mid-December.

Albion were defeated by the 66-year-old’s former club, West Ham, last time out so might there be changes afoot tonight?

Ahead of the fixture, Allardyce revealed that he would have Matty Phillips (recovered from a positive coronavirus test) and Karlan Grant (fractured foot) available for selection, he said to wba.co.uk:

“I’m glad to say we have Matt Phillips and Karlan Grant back. That boosts our squad.”

Whilst Robert Snodgrass is also in contention having missed the match against his former club due to a gentleman’s agreement to not play him. After his impact on debut against Wolves, he was sorely missed.

All three could come straight into the starting lineup as Allardyce’s only changes.

It means we’re likely to see an unchanged flat back-four with Sam Johnstone between the sticks.

Kieran Gibbs and Dara O’Shea could continue at full-back, the latter is a more defensive option to Darnell Furlong, and that will be required against the firepower at Guardiola’s disposal.

Semi Ajayi and Kyle Bartley seem to be Big Sam’s preferred pairing with Branislav Ivanovic snubbed from Albion’s last two league outings.

In midfield, we’re expecting Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher to partner skipper Jake Livermore, while Matheus Pereira remains at the peak of the engine room in the no.10 role but with the inclusion of Snodgrass, Baggies regular Romaine Sawyers may have to make way.

The 29-year-old has started 15 league matches this term, but ranks among the worst of West Brom’s regulars having averaged a 6.21 rating – Gallagher (6.72) and Snodgrass (7.21) have managed better, per WhoScored.

Callum Robinson may be axed after a lengthy run without a goal or assist, thus making space for Phillips to slot straight back in – he had started the first four games under Allardyce before he was hit with the virus.

Finally, in attack, Grant is the only senior striker available right now so his return would be a timely boost. He comes straight in, replacing the underperforming Kamil Grosicki.
