Many Sheffield Wednesday were not happy with referee David Webb after he showed Josh Windass a red card during their Championship clash against Preston North End.

The Owls were down to 10 men midway through the first half after just 17 minutes as Windass appeared to strike Joe Rafferty in the chest with the studs of his boot.

Wednesday were rooted to the bottom of the Championship before this afternoon’s proceedings and were of course desperately looking to turn their fortunes around after Tony Pulis took to the dugout for his first match in charge.

But Windass’ first-half sending off did not help their cause, providing them with an uphill battle for the rest of the game, which they lost 1-0 courtesy of a Tom Barkhuizen goal.

Supporters were left fuming by the decision, with some saying that Rafferty was already on his way down before the two players came together.

وقال مرتضى في بيان رسمي عبر صفحته بموقع التواصل الاجتماعي “فيس بوك”: “إلى جماهير نادي الزمالك العظيمة وأعضاء الجمعية العمومية المحترمين، يطالبني الكثيرون بالتوجة إلي الاتحاد الدولي (الفيفا) لتقديم شكوى ضد وطني مصر بسبب قرار تجميد مجلس الإدارة المنتخب الذي تشرفت برئاسته، وبسبب عدم تنفيذ الحكم القضائي الصادر يوم 24 أكتوبر حتى الآن، ومهما طالبني البعض من اتهامات في التفريط في حقي بعدم تقديم هذه الشكوى”.

وتابع: “أود أن أوضح الأمور الآتية، لن أشكو وطني في يوم من الأيام إلى أي جهة أجنبية مهما كلفني ذلك، لأن مصر لا تستحق منا أن نشوها في الخارج”.

وأضاف: “طوال حياتي كنت في ظهر دولتي المصرية سندًا لمؤسساتها، ولن أكون يومًا شوكة في ظهرها، ومصر في عهد الرئيس السيسي هي دولة مؤسسات تحترم القانون، ولن أنفذ الحكم الصادر لصالح مجلس الإدارة إلا بالطرق القانونية”.

وواصل: “حزنت للأسف لبعض التجاوزات التي حدثت في الآونة الاخيرة، والتي تزيد نبرات التعصب الكروي في الوقت الذي يحتاج فيه الوطن للتكاتف في ظل الظروف السياسية والاقتصادية الصعبة التي تتطلب وقوفنا جميعا خلف قيادتنا السياسية، التي تبذل كل الجهد لحماية الوطن من التيارات المعادية التي تحيط بنا، ولا تريد لهذا البلد الامين الاستقرار والازدهار”.

واختتم: “ولن يتحقق ذلك الاستقرار إلا بوعي شعبنا المصري العظيم ويقظة قواتنا المسلحة ورجال الشرطة، الذين سقط منهم العشرات فداء لهذا الوطن وحمايته من جماعات الشر الإرهابية، وحمي الله مصر وشعبها”.

According to Calciomercato, the Toffees are ‘making concrete steps forward’ in their reported pursuit of Juventus outcast Sami Khedira over a potential deal.

It’s claimed that the German World Cup winner wants to leave Turin and is working to have his contract terminated before the turn of the year.

The 33-year-old is said to want a move sorted out before he leaves the Serie A giants, which is where Everton come into the equation. It remains to be seen where the Merseysiders currently stand in this regard.

Gbamin 2.0?

Khedira is yet to play for Juventus this season and has not featured for the Italian champions since their 0-0 draw with AC Milan in the Coppa Italia back in June.

In fact, that has been his only competitive showing in 2020. This is because the former Real Madrid powerhouse has been battling injuries for the latter part of his career.

During the last two years alone, the veteran midfielder has gone under the needle twice for two knee surgeries and that has got to be a major red flag, especially considering this effectively mirrors the problems the club have been dealing with in the shape of 2019 arrival, Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

The 25-year-old has played just twice for the Toffees since joining for £25m. Whilst it is not his fault, director of football Marcel Brands cannot afford to risk his reported £184k-per-week wages when there’s a risk he won’t even play let alone be the back-up to Allan.

In the past, Khedira has been lauded as an “intelligent and smart player” by Joachim Low whilst Jose Mourinho dubbed him the “best” in his position.

Even Ancelotti has recently waxed lyrical about his former player, he told reporters: “I have a good memory of Sami Khedira, he was with me at Real Madrid and was a fantastic professional. I would love to work with him, but unfortunately, he’s not the only one! I’ve had fantastic players in my career, I’ve had good memories of them.”

Regardless of what he once was, Khedira would be an awful signing for the Toffees to make. It would be inexcusable to crack on and sign him this January, even if he arrived on a free transfer.

According to 90min, the £45m-rated Juventus star has been offered to several Premier League teams ahead of the January transfer window, including to Spurs once again.

Dybala came close to joining the north Londoners in 2019 before image rights proved to be the major stumbling block preventing a record-breaking deal.

With the 27-year-old entering the final 18 months of his contract in Turin, his representatives have been in contact with England’s ‘big six,’ though it’s also claimed that the Serie A champions would like to tie him down to an extension.

Since the summer, Dybala has gone from superstar to a faltering flop – he has bagged just one goal in 569 minutes of action in all competitions, leading to scathing criticism in the Italian press.

Just this weekend, La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed he was “slow and useless” during their win over Torino, in which Dybala started alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in attack, whilst Corriere della Sera compared him to a “vintage player” for being “too slow” (via JuveFC).

It wasn’t too long ago that the Argentinian international was being compared to the late Maradona by Juventus legend Michel Platini. Even Alessandro del Piero dubbed him a player of “extraordinary quality.”

But clearly, things haven’t gone to plan in 2020 for the former Levy target. Indeed, Spurs dodged a massive bullet then, and they should look to snub his advances this time around, no matter how tempting it’ll be.

It is not like Jose Mourinho’s league-leaders even need a player of stature anymore either, he’d merely be another Erik Lamela, especially with his recent injury record (he has missed 57 days of action since last season alone).

The Portuguese boss secured a new back-up to Harry Kane in Carlos Vinicius whilst Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele have finally emerged as potential options in the hole.

Despite his struggles this term, the Italian giants would undoubtedly still want a huge fee for his signature and that is not something worth risking on Levy’s part.

Southampton return to Premier League action on Monday night as they face Brighton and Hove Albion away from home, with Ralph Hasenhuttl no doubt desperate to bounce back from last week’s disappointing 3-2 defeat against Manchester United.

The Saints went 2-0 up against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side before a second-half fightback saw them pick up no points for their efforts, thanks to a late goal from Edinson Cavani.

Therefore, Hasenhuttl may be tempted to make some changes to his team ahead of the trip to the Amex Stadium, especially in his defence.

Here’s how Football FanCast expects Southampton to line up against Brighton, with two changes from the starting team that lost against Manchester United…

Alex McCarthy unsurprisingly keeps his place in goal after an excellent start to the season, whilst Ryan Bertrand and Kyle Walker-Peters start at full-back, although the former Spurs man is perhaps lucky that there is a lack of competition at right-back at the moment, as his performance against United was one of his poorest in a Southampton shirt.

There’s one change in central-defence, as Mohammed Salisu makes his first start for the club, after he joined from Real Valladolid for £10.9 million in the summer, with Hasenhuttl confirming that he was in contention earlier in the week. He comes in for Jannik Vestergaard, who endured a nightmare display against United, and would also potentially struggle against Brighton’s willing runners in attack.

Therefore, it seems as if now is the right time for Hasenhuttl to hand Salisu his debut, as he and Bednarek are arguably better equipped to deal with the pace in Brighton’s forward line.

Southampton’s midfield stays the same, with James Ward-Prowse and Oriol Romeu having formed an effective partnership in the centre of midfield so far this season.

Meanwhile, after returning to training this week, Danny Ings starts up top with Che Adams, in the hope that those two can pick up where they left off before the former Liverpool man’s injury.

It will be interesting to see how Hasenhuttl sets his team up against Brighton and whether we do see the likes of Salisu and Ings from the start.
