Sunderland boss Jack Ross has spoken about the form and fitness of Will Grigg, and League One defences should very worried indeed.

What’s the story?

When Grigg joined Sunderland last January to replace the departing Josh Maja, you could be forgiven for thinking he would comfortably fire the Black Cats to promotion.

Indeed, the Northern Ireland international got his reputation for being “on fire” from his excellent goalscoring record in the division – he has bagged 100 goals in 278 games in the third tier.

He scored just four league goals for Sunderland though as he struggled with an ankle injury.

Now, Ross has sent out what seems like a warning to the rest of the division – Grigg is fit and raring to go.

“I think he has looked more settled even in this short pre-season period,” Ross said, as reported by The Chronicle.

“Joining a club mid-season is more challenging than at the beginning of the season.

“He feels more settled on and off the pitch. He has looked stronger and fresher than last season so will hopefully benefit from that as well this season.”

Just how good is he?

You only need to take a look at Grigg’s numbers whenever he has played a full season in League One to see that a healthy, confident version of the 28 year-old is a serious threat.

In the four campaigns he has played more than 2,000 minutes in the division, or about 22 matches, he has bagged 19, 20, 25 and 19 goals respectively, per Transfermarkt.

All the club have to do is keep Grigg fit, create chances for him, and he will score goals. It’s just what he does.

Ross’ comments that the 13-cap Northern Ireland ace looks “stronger and fresher” should mean the ankle problem is behind him, while having a full pre-season under his belt will help both his fitness and chemistry with his teammates.

With wing wizard Aiden McGeady signing a new contract and Grigg seemingly ready to take the league by storm, Ross’ team should not struggle to score goals next season. Your defence should most definitely be terrified.

وسائل إعلام فرنسية، ذكرت خلال الأسابيع القليلة الماضية، أنّ أجويرو حريص على الانتقال لصفوف باريس سان جيرمان، من أجل التدريب تحت قيادة مواطنه ماوريسيو بوتشيتينو.

وبحسب صحيفة “ميرور” البريطانية، فإن أجويرو لا يرغب في الاستمرار في أوروبا أكثر من ذلك، حيث يريد العودة إلى مسقط رأسه مرة أخرى، قبل نهاية مسيرته.

وأوضحت الصحيفة أنّ أجويرو يأمل أنّ يتمكن من إنهاء مسيرته من حيث آتي في الدوري الأرجنتيني.

أجويرو جاء إلى أوروبا في صيف عام 2006 قادمًا من إنديبندينتي الأرجنتيني، اذ انتقل لـ أتلتيكو مدريد الإسباني، وفي 2011 ترك متصدر الليجا وانتقل إلى مانشستر سيتي والذي توج معه بالعديد من البطولات، على رأسهم الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز في أربع مُناسبات.

Liverpool continue their pre-season challenges in the United States after suffering a narrow defeat against Sevilla on Sunday night.

It was a tightly contested game but the Reds couldn’t overcome the challenge of the Andalusian team, who clinched a 2-1 victory on the night.

But still, Jurgen Klopp was mostly happy with what he saw during the game, though he probably wasn’t as happy with a little friendly bust-up with Dejan Lovren in training prior to the fixture.

Of course, this was not something sinister nor was Lovren fined, contrary to what he stated in the image, captioning it with “getting a fine” along with a short apology to his manager.

We’re sure Klopp will let that one slide if Lovren can stay fit and firing throughout the forthcoming season, something he had trouble doing in the 2018/19 campaign.

On Thursday, Liverpool revealed that young attacker Paul Glatzel had undergone successful surgery after picking up a knee injury against Tranmere Rovers.

The 18-year-old was making his first-team debut for the Reds when he suffered damage to a knee ligament in the second half of the pre-season friendly.

The statement on the club’s official website revealed that the teenager will now be undergoing a rehabilitation period at the training ground.

Glatzel broke into the Liverpool Under-23 side towards the end of last season having impressed for the club’s Under-18 outfit.

The injury is a huge blow for the teenager at this stage of his career.

However, the club’s Under-23 boss Neil Critchley has insisted that Glatzel has “the strength of character” to bounce back.

انتقد مدافع منتخب البرازيل السابق وبطل كأس العالم 1994، ريكاردو روكا، الأداء الذي ظهر عليه الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي بالميراس أمام الأهلي في مباراة تحديد المركزين الثالث والرابع في بطولة كأس العالم للأندية 2020.

وأنهى الأهلي البطولة في المركز الثالث والحصول على الميدالية البرونزية بعد التعادل السلبي في الأشواط الأصلية وفوزه في ركلات الجزاء الترجيحية بنتيجة 3-2 يوم أمس الخميس، على ملعب “المدينة التعليمية” في قطر.

وعلق روكا في تصريحات خاصة لـ “بطولات” على المباراة، وقال: “قدم بالميراس مباراة سيئة للغاية، ولكنهم واجهوا خصمًا قويًا”.

وتابع: “ربما بالميراس يمثل الكرة البرازيلية في تلك البطولة، ولكن الأهلي كان أكثر برازيلية من حيث الأسلوب على أرض الملعب”.

وأضاف: “كان الأهلي يتسم بالتنظيم الدفاعي الجيد وسرعة الهجوم المضاد، أحببت طريقة أداء الفريق المصري، وأشعرني بالميراس بخيبة أمل كبيرة لأننا كنا نضع آمالًا كبيرًا على هذا الفريق الذي بات يحتاج إلى تطوير كبير في الأداء”.

وأتم تصريحاته: “أثبت الأهلي أنه يمتلك فريقا عظيما ويستحق بالفعل الفوز بالمركز الثالث والميدالية البرونزية في كأس العالم للأندية، تهانينا”.

Lots of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was reported by L’Equipe that the club are set to sign Monaco right-back Djibril Sidibe ahead of West Ham and Crystal Palace, who were also keen.

The 18-cap France international will reportedly join on an initial one-year loan deal for a cost of €2.5m (£2.3m), and the Merseysiders will also have the option to make the deal permanent next summer for a sum of €14m (£12.9m).

Sidibe, 27, made 26 appearances for Monaco in Ligue 1 last term, recording two assists.

Marco Silva was said to be keen to sign a right-back to provide competition for Seamus Coleman before the deadline, and he looks set to get his wish in the shape of the 6 foot Frenchman – the right-back department had been weakened by Jonjoe Kenny’s departure for Schalke.

Former Rangers man Charlie Miller believes that the duo of Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe is reminiscent of the legends of days gone by.

What’s he said?

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, Miller has likened the options at Steven Gerrard’s disposal this season to those of the good old days of Brain Laudrup and Paul Gascoigne.

Defoe and Morelos have been in fine form this season, scoring 12 times in the Europa League and Premiership, an incredible record when you consider they’ve only played seven competitive games.

After a goal-laden start to the season, Miller has made the comparison: “We had plenty of attacking options at that time [when he was playing]. Judging by the games so far this season, it’s the same story again. I’m not sure whether you’d pick Defoe or Morelos to start the big games. They have both started the season so well — maybe you start with both of them.

“Steven Gerrard has so many attacking options in wide areas or coming from deep. And that’s even before the fans have seen Brandon Barker.”

That’s high praise from a player who played with some of the biggest names in the club’s illustrious history, like Gazza and Laudrup.

Miller is right

While Miller’s old teammates are bigger names than Defoe and Morelos, the former Ger is spot on to make the comparison.

The current duo have been incredible this season, scoring goals against just about anyone who dares try and stop them. It’s rare that a side has two elite goalscorers, with Morelos scoring over 100 goals in his short career thus far and Defoe sitting pretty on more than 250 strikes.

The two haven’t even started a game together this campaign, which makes their exploits even more incredible. That said, you feel if Gerrard could get them in the same side and keep their scoring rate the same, then Rangers could be an even more dangerous side than they already are.

With Gerrard preferring a 4-3-3 in the infancy of his management career, it doesn’t leave room for them both. A change of shape that suits their partnership might be the catalyst needed to drive them towards trophies, joining the elites of years gone by.

While neither quite have the same status as Gascoigne and Laudrup, if they keep up their current form and end the season with one or more medals around their necks, it won’t be long before they’re right up there in the eyes of the Ibrox faithful.

وأضاف: “لقد خسرنا للتو ماتيو بوليتانو أيضًا، فما الفائدة من التأهل للدور التالي إذا لم يكن لدينا أي شخص يمكنه اللعب؟ كل ما يمكننا فعله غدًا هو عد من بقي ثم نرى”.

وواصل جاتوزو: “نفتقد من 10إلى 11 لاعب الآن، حيث يعاني بوليتانو من مشاكل في أضلاعه ولا يستطيع التنفس بشكل صحيح، لا يمكننا الجلوس هنا والبكاء، نحن فقط بحاجة إلى إيجاد الحلول”.

وأستطرد: “إذا لم يكن الفريق في حالة بدنية جيدة، فلن يتمكن من إعادة غرناطة إلى نصف ملعبه طوال الشوط الثاني بأكمله”.

وأكد: “أعتقد أن المشكلة في الوقت الحالي هي مشكلة نفسية قبل كل شيء، لأن اللاعبين يتقدمون بشكل جيد في هذه الظروف”.

وأتم جاتوزو تصريحاته: “نستمر في استقبال نفس الأهداف ويجب أن نكون أكثر حذرًا، خاصة في أوروبا”.

أشاد النجم أحمد حسام ميدو، مدرب الزمالك الأسبق، بمحترفنا المصري مصطفى محمد، بعد تألقه مع جالطة سراي التركي.

وانتقل مصطفى محمد في يناير على سبيل الإعارة من الزمالك لمدة موسم ونصف الموسم مقابل 2 مليون دولار، مع بند أحقية شراء قيمته 4 ملايين دولار في نهاية يونيو 2022.

وأضاف: “بالنسبة لي مصطفى محمد مهاجم رقم (9) نموذجي، مثل دروجبا وأنا، يملك أفضل المقومات للعب في هذا المركز، ليس من السهل الحصول على مهاجمين مثل هؤلاء في الوقت الحاضر”.

وأتم تصريحاته قائلًا: “أعتقد أنه يجب على مصطفى محمد البقاء في جالطة سراي لمدة عامين على الأقل، ثم سيكون لديه فرصة للعب في فرق كبيرة في دوريات كبرى مثل الإنجليزي والإيطالي والإسباني”.
