Leeds United: Whites fans blast Huddersfield Town forum take on key players

Responding to a Huddersfield Town forum take via Twitter, many Leeds United fans have been in uproar over several takes on some of their key players – including the notion that Terriers midfielder Lewis O’Brien is a ‘better player’ than Mateusz Klich.

The take, delivered on Huddersfield’s fan forum, not only describes O’Brien as being a better midfielder than Leeds star Klich, but also the likes of Harry Tofolo and Christopher Schindler apparently get the better of Stuart Dallas and Ben White.

Comparing the arguably most controversial opinion of them all, O’Brien and Klich, the Terriers midfielder has more impressive tackles (3.2) and interceptions (1.2) per game ratios while Klich possesses the dominance in terms of pass accuracy (81.1%), as per WhoScored.com. However, it’s clear the Polish international is the better influence in an attacking sense – netting four Championship goals and four assists compared to O’Brien’s two goals and three assists.

Keeping that in mind, these Leeds supporters can’t believe some of the hilarious takes – with one fan describing it as ‘truly disturbing’. Find all of their best comments down below.

Arsenal target £85m Leon Bailey

According to The Daily Express, Arsenal are interested in signing Leon Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen.

What’s the story?

It has been a decent season for the Jamaica international so far. He has scored seven goals in 22 matches for the Bundesliga outfit as they push for a Champions League spot in the league.

That, it seems, is enough to have piqued the interest of Arsenal.

The Gunners are said to be interested in the 22-year-old, along with Manchester United and Liverpool, whilst Chelsea are even prepared to bid £85m for his services.

Bad news for Nelson

Going forward, Arsenal currently have a plethora of options. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, with 29 goals between them this season, are amongst the Gunners’ top goalscorers, whilst Gabriel Martinelli and Nicolas Pepe are in the top four of the Emirates outfit’s best contributors this term.

It is already a struggle to fit all of them into the same side, so it is worth considering what Bailey’s addition would mean for Reiss Nelson. There has been much promise surrounding the youngster in recent years, but he has found himself second-best behind Pepe for much of the campaign on the right-wing – after all, the Ivory Coast international is the most expensive footballer in the club’s history.

In all fairness, the 20-year-old’s best performances this campaign have come on the opposite flank – he has failed to score in seven on the right but has two strikes and two assists in as many games on the left. However, the purchase of Bailey would make it impossible for Arteta not to play him on a regular basis, at least to start with. Whilst injuries have been a problem at times this term for Nelson, he has still only started ten matches in all competitions – he is having trouble getting regular playing time as it is.

Progress is always needed, but in this case, Nelson would be the biggest loser from this huge potential transfer. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal can beat their rivals to the signature.

Meanwhile, Arsenal target this forward from Premier League rivals.

Crystal Palace’s Vicente Guaita shows appreciation for fan

There may have been no football in recent weeks but many people have been making the most of the time spent in self isolation, with one Crystal Palace fan now in the limelight for using Vicente Guaita as the subject of his artwork.Guaita has made himself a very popular man at Selhurst Park with a string of impressive displays this term, and one fan felt the need to glorify him as a result.

It is perhaps the least the Spaniard deserves as he has won the Eagles countless points this season, and without him there is every chance that Roy Hodgson’s side could be fighting off relegation.

His record of nine clean sheets in 27 league games this season tells its own story, and if he maintains his standard when football returns then he may be the favourite to win Crystal Palace’s Player of the Year award.

The shot-stopper was highly appreciative of what the fan did, too, and even extended a nice gesture in return, by suggesting that he was keen to meet the supporter.

It goes to show that players and the fanbase can still stay connected during this difficult period, and when the players return to action there could be even more appreciation and support shown than what is usually on display.

Marcus Rashford dubs Juan Mata "Insta Bully"

With no Premier League action until at leas the end of April, Manchester United players currently are having to keep themselves fit at home.

And it seems midfielder Nemanja Matic is making a big effort to stay in shape, declaring on his Instagram that “every day is a gym day”, while once again reminding supporters to stay at home.

However, team-mate Juan Mata wasn’t buying it, with the Spaniard cheekily declaring that Matic has been doing an “old trick” by sticking on his gym wear and taking a photo, before spending the rest of the day chilling out on the sofa.

Who knows if there’s any truth to that, but Marcus Rashford was quick to stick up for the Serbian by dubbing Mata an “Insta bully” for his pop at the towering midfielder.

It’s good to see United’s players are still keeping each other’s spirits up during this time and seemingly working hard to keep themselves in shape.

Hopefully the Red Devils, who are currently three points away from fourth place in the Premier League, will reap the rewards once football starts up again.

Three iconic goals that Spurs fans will never forget

Tottenham Hotspur have nurtured a lot of talent over the years and suffered some agonising near misses as well as eras of success. Here’s a look back into the archives at some of the London side’s most iconic goals.

Jonathan Woodgate vs Chelsea (2008 League Cup final)

Back when it was known as the Carling Cup, Spurs stamped their names on the silverware after a nail-biting win over London rivals Chelsea.

It took until extra-time for someone to find a winner after Didier Drogba’s stunning 39th minute free-kick was cancelled out by a Dimitar Berbatov penalty in the second half. Spurs only needed an extra four minutes, with Jonathan Woodgate finding the back of the net and indeed, Tottenham’s ticket to glory.

Petr Cech almost kept his side in the game but Woodgate’s fearless header and pressing presence caused the Czech powerhouse into an error and Spurs snatched the win very late on.

Dele Alli vs Crystal Palace (2015/16 Premier League)

Like any football star, they weren’t always a league icon or household name, and the same goes for Dele Alli. The Englishman did, however, rise into the limelight very quickly.

After signing for Tottenham from MK Dons for £5million, Alli took no time before showing the Premier League what they’d been missing out on. After returning from his loan spell, he had become integrated into Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but was still viewed merely as a young talent. Until his audacious bit of skill against Crystal Palace.

Latching onto Christian Eriksen’s pass, Alli chipped his defender before setting himself up on the volley and firing his side’s winning goal into the back of the net. Those few seconds of sauce really put the 24-year-old’s name on the map.

Lucas Moura vs Ajax (2019 Champions League semi-final)

Spurs haven’t had much luck in Europe over the years, but the 2018/19 season really turned that around for the London outfit. In similar fashion to reigning winners Liverpool, Tottenham overturned a huge deficit in order to book their ticket to the final.

After a young Ajax side looked comfortable sitting 3-0 up with an away goal, Spurs looked down and out. But a hero came along in the form of Lucas Moura and his sensational hat-trick to make club history and secure Tottenham’s place in the Champions League final for the first time ever.

The Brazilian’s third goal of the match sliced into the back of the net in the fifth minute of added time and Moura wrote both his and his side’s name in the history books.

Tottenham Hotspur: Paul Robinson insists wonderkid should stay at Spurs

Paul Robinson has urged Troy Parrott to stay at Tottenham Hotspur and learn from fellow striker Harry Kane, in an exclusive with Football Insider.

After arriving at Spurs from Belvedere FC for an undisclosed fee in July 2017, Parrott is spending his second season with the Lilywhites. He has bagged 6 goals and produced 1 assist in just 4 games in the UEFA Youth League, but despite injuries to both Kane and Son Heung-min, the teenager is yet to make a start all season.

In fact, Jose Mourinho’s side have been playing without a recognised striker since February.

However, Robinson stressed the 18-year-old should remain in London to capitalise on any opportunities that may come his way throughout the course of next season.

Speaking to Dylan Childs, the veteran goalkeeper said: “If the club thinks sending him out on loan will benefit him, he would certainly command a loan to a Premier League side or a top Championship side.

“At Spurs, there is the potential for him to play cup games. Being in and around the squad he can learn from Harry Kane.  Subconsciously you pick up all of his traits, his habits, and his finishing if you work with him in training. You mould yourself without even knowing it.

“It is important to get football but with injuries and suspensions, he might get two or three games and score a bagful. We saw it with Rashford. Football is all about timing. If he is out on loan they cannot recall him.”

All things considered, it is difficult to disagree with the former England international here.

Understandably, given his track record, lots of supporters have been begging for Parrott to get the chance to prove himself, and crowds all around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium rose to their feet when he came on in extra-time in the FA Cup fifth-round defeat to Norwich City. Although the youngster didn’t lack the courage to take a spot-kick in the penalty shootout, sadly his attempt on goal was saved (BBC).

It is fair to say his teammate Harry Kane is quite a dead-ball-specialist, having buried 37 penalties and only missed 7 in all competitions in his career so far.

While it would be easy to ship the starlet out to a lower league, if Parrott does stay in the English capital, not only will he be able to pick up finishing tips and tricks from the England captain during first-team training, he will become more ingrained with the Tottenham backroom staff and therefore develop a greater understanding of Mourinho’s methodology.

In contrast, he would potentially have to start all over again once he returned to his parent club after a loan spell with another side.

The Irishman signed a new contract earlier this year, and it remains to be seen whether or not he will heed Robinson’s advice, or head out on loan in the coming months.

Manchester United: Fans drool over Eric Bailly’s latest update

Manchester United’s Eric Bailly has kept supporters in the loop after the club posted a video of the defender working out on social media.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the first team have been told to stay away from Carrington and to train at home instead, with backroom staff providing players with individual training packages.

Bailly was pictured training with an impressive array of exercise kit, including a full body suit strapped with weights, as he is clearly making use of his time off by keeping his fitness levels sharp.

The 26-year-old sustained a nasty knee injury last year that left him on the sidelines until December. However, he made his return in the 2-0 win away at Stamford Bridge and made an appearance from the bench against derby rivals Manchester City (Transfermarkt).

Ever since he arrived at Old Trafford from La Liga side Villareal for £34.2m, the Ivory Coast international has played in 79 games for United, picking up 1 goal so far. He is currently valued at £15.75m via Transfermarkt, although this dip can be partially attributed to the economic uncertainty surrounding recent events.

Unsurprisingly, many Red Devils drooled over his “unstoppable” workout online, with one fan dubbing Bailly a “beast,” and another calling him a “machine.”

The last thing Pellegrini needs at West Ham is a Hugill return

After a summer of heavy spending, West Ham will be hoping to recoup some money in the upcoming transfer window.

And one man the club appear to be banking on to bring in some cash is Jordan Hugill.

The Breakdown

Hugill is currently on loan at Middlesbrough but, according to Claretandhugh, a permanent deal is unlikely with manager Tony Pulis having cooled on the 26-year-old.

Hugill is now set to return to the London Stadium in the summer in a development that is unlikely to have Manuel Pellegrini jumping for joy.

Pellegrini had already seemingly been open to the departures of Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll last month with Football.London previously reporting West Ham were keen on sales despite the Chilean’s vocal praise for the latter.

With that in mind, the last thing Pellegrini will want is another forward player he is not one-hundred percent sold on as he looks to shape a squad capable of making it into Europe.

A lot, of course, could still happen between now and the summer with a few good performances possibly being enough for Middlesbrough to change their stance, while interest could come from elsewhere.

Whatever the case, Hugill’s future looks to be far from the West Ham starting XI.

The Chalkboard: Steven Davis’ second spell at Rangers may already soon be over

[ad_pod ]

Hopes would have been high that Steven Davis could have rolled back the years following his emotional return to Rangers during the January transfer window, but it certainly hasn’t been the case so far.

On the chalkboard

Well, Steven Gerrard opted for some experience to boost his squad in their Scottish Premiership title push last month with the additions of Jermain Defoe and Davis, but the latter has found first-team minutes particularly hard to come by so far.

The 34-year-old has only started four of the seven fixtures in all competitions he has been available for so far despite a lack of football with Southampton in the first-half of the campaign, but he was named in the XI alongside Ross McCrorie and Glen Kamara against St Johnstone at Ibrox on Saturday.

Gerrard would have known that it was a big opportunity to close the gap on arch-rivals Celtic at the summit – especially considering the Bhoys had beaten the same opponent 5-0 the previous weekend – but they could only manage a goalless draw with Davis hauled off before the hour-mark.

What happens next?

As things stand and with his current form, the Northern Ireland international should not be in the team right now.

It was yet another low-key outing for Davis at the weekend, and while he should have been one of their biggest attacking and creative threats from the middle of the park, he was largely anonymous and failed to do much at all before he was replaced by Glenn Middleton in the 59th minute.

The 34-year-old needs to improve massively if he wants to have a future at Rangers beyond the end of the campaign, because as things stand Gerrard will need to ditch him in the summer if he continues to put in performances like the one that he did on Saturday.
