Newcastle fans react to shocking revelation from Aleksandar Mitrovic

Despite playing a major part in helping Newcastle United back in to the top flight, Aleksandar Mitrovic, who is valued at £9million by Transfermarkt, has been unable to break into the first team at St. James’s Park this season.

The imposing striker has managed just 3 appearances from the substitutes bench so far this campaign, equating to just 49 minutes of Premier League football.

Rafael Benitez seemingly does not believe that the 23-year-old warrants a place in his squad at the moment and it appears that the Serbian striker may be losing his patience with the club.

This was confirmed in an interview with the Shields Gazette on Tuesday when Mitrovic made his feelings clear;

“I’m patient, but we will see. My patience is almost to the end, so we will see. I want to play. I want to be on the pitch. I’m patient, but we will see.”

“Newcastle is in my heart, and even if I maybe go somewhere, Newcastle will be in my heart. I hope I will stay here, but we will see what happens.”

Upon hearing his comments, Newcastle fans took to Twitter to express their hopes that the much-loved striker will be given a chance to start…

In Focus: Everton star Barkley likely to wait for Tottenham despite Chelsea interest

According to reports in the Daily Mail, Everton midfielder Ross Barkley could be the subject of another bid from Chelsea during the January transfer window.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the England international rejected a move to Stamford Bridge on transfer deadline day in August as he wanted more time to think about his future, and he may have a decision to make in the New Year with his Toffees contract due to expire next summer as he can sign a pre-contract agreement to join a foreign club.

The Daily Mail says that the 24-year-old preferred a move to Tottenham Hotspur over Chelsea as he felt that he would play more regularly under Mauricio Pochettino, but the north London outfit were unwilling to make a move for him when he was suffering with a hamstring injury.

The Daily Mail says that the Argentine boss is still keen on Barkley, who is two weeks away from full fitness, but Chelsea are refusing to accept defeat in the chase to sign the midfielder.

Is there any chance Barkley could stay at Everton?

Under the leadership of Ronald Koeman it seemed unlikely given that the Dutchman was clearly unhappy that he had entered the final year of his contract with no decision made on the star’s future.

However, his sacking and the arrival of Sam Allardyce may change things, although the presence of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Wayne Rooney and Davy Klaassen in the Toffees’ squad means that Barkley faces a real fight to get back into the XI in his preferred No 10 position when he returns to full fitness.

What should Barkley do?

While he does have the interest of Tottenham and Chelsea, there are many that still feel that Barkley isn’t the finished product or consistent enough to join those two clubs, and would be better off staying at Goodison.

While there is no doubt that he would be more likely to play at Everton than he would if he joined Chelsea, Spurs’ interest will certainly be more appealing for the 24-year-old given Pochettino’s side’s style of play and his tendency to give British players a chance to develop and improve in the first team.

Juventus target surprise move for Mustafi, Arsenal fans react

Shkodran Mustafi did not have many backers within the Arsenal fanbase towards the end of last season.

The defender made some blunders at the back and was caught out a handful of times during the final few games of the campaign.

Unsurprisingly, this led to questions over his long-term position at the club.

The speculation intensified when Unai Emery replaced Arsene Wenger as manager, and the Spaniard has already made tweaks to the back line.

Right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner has joined from Juventus on a free transfer, while Sokratis has made the move from Borussia Dortmund.

Corriere dello Sport recently reported that Juventus, who have also been linked with a shock swoop for Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, are keeping tabs on Mustafi and see him as an alternative option to Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng.

Arsenal fans have been posting their thoughts on the rumoured transfer on Reddit.

Some have taken the reports lightly by making a joke of them, while others have contemplated the reality of being without Mustafi.

Majority of Leeds fans happy with Lewis Baker signing

Leeds United have signed Chelsea academy graduate Lewis Baker on a one-year loan deal.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been on the books of Chelsea for years, but as it customary with their youth players, he has spent a number of years on loan and not made a senior appearance for the Blues.

He has spent time at Sheffield Wednesday, Vitesse and most recently Middlesbrough, and now the promising player has become new Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa’s first signing for the club.

Has this been the best World Cup ever? Tell us what you think here and win any World Cup shirt of your choice.

Just before Leeds announced the signing, we asked fans if they thought Baker would be a good signing for the Whites.

Fortunately for the Elland Road faithful, 71 per cent wanted to sign the attacking midfielder, so they will clearly be pleased with their club’s business.

Of course, Leeds fans will be hoping that Bielsa dips into the market many more times over the summer but it’s reassuring to see that he gauged their reaction well with his first foray.

Leeds must demand Matt Phillips in exchange if West Brom try to sign Kemar Roofe

According to an exclusive report by Football Insider on July 11, Leeds United attacker Kemar Roofe is a target for Championship rivals West Bromwich Albion, and if the Whites are to consider selling the 25-year-old they should demand Baggies winger Matt Phillips, rated at £8.1m by Transfermarkt, in exchange.

What’s the word, then?

Well, Football Insider report that Roofe has become a priority summer target for both West Brom and Sheffield United, having finished the 2017/18 campaign as the Yorkshire club’s top goalscorer with 14 goals in all competitions.

The former Oxford United man, who showed his versatility by playing in the No.10 role, as a winger and even as a centre-forward last term, could be the subject of bids in the coming days and weeks with clubs ready to test Leeds’ resolve to keep hold of the attacker, with Darren Moore keen to bring him back to the team he started his career at.

Roofe still has two years remaining on his contract at Elland Road, and it is still unclear whether Marcelo Bielsa, who must sign an exciting 6ft 3in striker on loan if Man United win the race for him, sees him as a key player ahead of the 2018/19 season.

What should Leeds do next?

Well, the Whites must always look to keep hold of their best players if they want success this term, and there is no doubt that Roofe is one of those – especially with fellow forwards Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Pawel Cibicki and Jay-Roy Grot not being with the Yorkshire club for the upcoming season.

However, if the 25-year-old does decide he wants to go or if Leeds are willing to let him join West Brom, then they must ensure they get Matt Phillips in return to provide some pace and quality in wide areas.

The predominantly right-sided winger has scored 11 goals and provided a further 21 assists in 109 Premier League appearances, but the 27-year-old is also hugely experienced at Championship level too having netted 22 goals and added 17 assists in 132 games, as per Transfermarkt.

Ollie Watkins could be the perfect replacement for Andros Townsend at Crystal Palace

According to a recent report from The Sun, Crystal Palace have joined the race for Brentford sensation Ollie Watkins. The 22-year-old enjoyed an outstanding season for the Bees in the Championship last time round and has since attracted interest from top-flight side Bournemouth, who have since been joined in pursuit of the winger by Roy Hodgson’s Palace.

And with Andros Townsend having been linked with a move away this summer, the £3.15 million-rated sensation (as per Transfermarkt) could well be the perfect replacement for the England international.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, while 27-year-old Townsend didn’t enjoy his best season in front of goal last term in netting only twice for the Eagles, his tally of eight assists in 36 Premier League appearances for the London-based club underlined the role he played in helping keep Hodgson’s side in the division – no one laid on more assists than the Englishman.

And given the role he played in leading the line in a more advanced role at times last season, and to good effect alongside fellow winger Wilfried Zaha, it’s clear that were he to leave this summer, Townsend would certainly need replacing.

And 22-year-old Watkins could well be the man to do just that.

The Englishman only made the move to Griffin Park back in 2017 after coming up through the ranks and beginning his senior career at Exeter City, but the winger adapted brilliantly to the rigours and demands of Championship football by producing the goods for Dean Smith’s side.

The 22-year-old scored ten goals and laid on five assists in 45 second tier games last season to help Brentford to a ninth place finish in the Championship, with Neal Maupay the only man at the club to net more than Watkins over the course of the campaign.

Thus, it’s clear that the former Exeter man has made huge strides in recent times and appears ready to make the step-up to the Premier League – there’s a reason both Palace and indeed Bournemouth are seeking his signature.

But with Townsend potentially on his way out of Selhurst Park this summer, Hodgson will need to find a replacement, and Brentford’s Watkins could well be the man for the job.

Arsenal should continue to expand their squad and capture this £25.2m-rated youngster

Arsenal are all set for a new dawn at the club under new manager Unai Emery, who will be hoping to have a massive impact on the club he has inherited from Arsene Wenger.

Emery, who has already made some moves in the transfer market this summer, will no doubt be keen to improve on last season for the Gunners and guide them back towards a top four spot and what he will see as their rightful place in the Champions League.

The Gunners squad is already blessed with a depth of attacking talent what makes other teams jealous, but this does not mean that the club should stop looking to invest in attacking areas, and one player we at the Transfer Tavern think would be a superb addition is Bayer Leverkusen youngster Kai Havertz.

The 19-year-old German had a breaking out year last season as he racked up regular first team appearances with a mix of goals and assists, and the £25.2m-rated attacking midfielder will no doubt be being tracked by some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Havertz is just another player off a long line of German youngster who continue to impress, and it would be of little surprise to see him involved with the German squad for the next European Championships.

The chance to develop at a club like Arsenal though might be a tempting opportunity for the youngster, as well as being afforded the chance to train and play with fellow German star Mesut Ozil.

Quick, good with the ball, and with a keen creative eye, Havertz would represent a superb long term capture for the Gunners.

Arsenal fans, what do you think? Would this be a good signing? Let us know in the comments!

Karius needs to revive career away from Liverpool scrutiny

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius should leave Anfield this summer after admitting that he is considering his future, reports the Daily Star.

What’s the word?

The writing was on the wall for Karius following his blunder-filled performance in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in May.

The German was given the chance as number one in January, but after two costly mistakes in the 3-1 loss in Kiev, everyone – even maybe Karius – knew that a change had to be made.

It took a while, but manager Jurgen Klopp finally landed the keeper of his choice in the form of Brazil international Alisson from Roma.

At the moment it is unclear what this means for Karius, but according to the Daily Star, the 25-year-old suggested to reporters that he could leave Liverpool this summer.

“I don’t know. I can’t say what I’m doing right now. There’s still some time left.”

What should he do?

Merseyside cannot be the most enjoyable place for Karius right now, for a number of reasons.

The former Mainz player has just lost his number one spot and he has been subjected to vile criticism online, from Liverpool fans as well as rivals.

Every single mistake he has made since has been intensified, and unfortunately for the young keeper, it is becoming toxic.

The best option for him would be to move on and get back on track elsewhere, but there probably will not be that many top-level clubs that will want him.

Karius may have to drop down a league or join a club overseas in order to build up his confidence.

£20m-valued Marcos Rojo could be the defender West Ham are looking for

West Ham United have embarked on a summer spending spree which should hold them in good stead to push for Europa League football next season, although a recent report from the Daily Telegraph suggests that they would be wise to add one final layer of quality to their defence on a cut-price deal.

One of the standout performers at the World Cup, namely Domagoj Vida, has consistently threatened to bring his horrendous haircut and footballing ability that comes with it to the London Stadium in recent weeks, but talk of such a transfer has fallen quiet in recent days.

Even with the signings of Fabian Balbuena and Issa Diop to consider, West Ham could benefit from the arrival of one more centre-back this summer, especially if Declan Rice will revert back to a defensive midfield role under Pellegrini.

And with that in mind, West Ham would be wise to make a shock raid on Manchester United for Marcos Rojo, as the Argentine defender is available for £20 million according to the Daily Telegraph.

The report claims that whilst Marco Silva is interested in a reunion with a player whom he worked alongside at Sporting Lisbon, his wage demands could price Everton out of a deal.

Whether or not West Ham have any money left in the bank to match Rojo’s demands remains to be seen, but on the premise that they will have resources to dip into before the window slams shut – particularly if they offload a couple of players – Pellegrini should bring the United outcast to the club.

Although Rojo has been guilty of demonstrating reckless ill-discipline and petulance throughout his career at Old Trafford, there is no disputing that he is a fantastic defender with plenty to offer at the top level.

In many ways, it is the fire in Rojo’s belly which enables him to thrive on the pitch, as his approach ensures that his opposite number will never enjoy anything less than an uncomfortable ride on the field of play.

And his natural technical ability which is typical of left-footed players would provide the Hammers with an ideal player to build attacks from the back, whilst his versatility would give the club an extra option at left-back.

The modern transfer market is a notoriously difficult place to find true value for money, but for just £20 million there’s no doubt that Rojo is available for a fair price and West Ham should not hesitate to capitalise on his availability.

Potential deal for impressive striker would soften the blow left by Mitrovic

Newcastle’s transfer business hasn’t exactly been outstanding this summer and with four days left in the transfer window, Mike Ashley is going to have to work quickly to bring in some recruits for Rafa Benitez.

According to reports, Benitez was told earlier in the summer that the club will have to work in the lower end of the transfer market.

Although the club had been linked with a move for former Nice forward, Alassane Plea, Newcastle have solely been looking for cheaper signings.

However, following the sale of Aleksandar Mitrovic, the club now has some added financial backing to go into the transfer market.

The Magpies have already completed a deal for Japan international Yoshinori Muto but according to Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws via Sport Witness, Newcastle have had a bid estimated between £4.4-5.3 million for Swedish striker Isaac Kiese Thelin.

Now, German newspaper, Kicker is claiming that Bayer Leverkusen have joined the race to sign the Swedish striker.

The Breakdown

As it stands, Newcastle have six players to play as the main striker but realistically, only Muto or Perez are the two who are good enough to start for Benitez.

Part of Sweden’s World Cup squad, Kiese Thelin scored 16 goals in the Jupiler Pro League for Anderlecht last season.

At 26, he’s going into his prime and could be another cut-price deal for the Magpies if the estimated £4.4-5.3 million bid is true.

With Leverkusen now interested, Newcastle need to work quickly but if Ashley can bring him in, Benitez might be able to relax about his forward options.
