Alexis Sanchez is world class but Man City should still give up on him

Since Abu Dhabi United Group’s famous takeover in 2008 Manchester City have become one of the biggest and wealthiest clubs in the world, attracting world-class players and having the money to buy them.

The club have become one of the world’s biggest spenders in the past couple of seasons and have already spent over £200million on five new players this summer. The ongoing summer saga, though, are the rumours of Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez making the switch to the Etihad Stadium.

But for once, Pep Guardiola should put away the cheque book and abandon his Chilean chase.

The 28-year-old forward is currently being pursued by Europe’s elite as he has one year remaining on his Gunners contract and has shown no signs of agreeing a new one. Sanchez, who worked under Guardiola at Barcelona, is one of the Premier League’s best attackers – scoring 30 goals and assisting 19 in 51 total appearances last year – so it is no surprise that he is so highly coveted.

Arsene Wenger has said multiple times this summer that his best player is going nowhere but if he does leave, Manchester City shouldn’t be his destination.

The Sky Blues already have a wealth of talented attackers at their disposal and while Alexis certainly wouldn’t struggle to claim a starting place, Pep should stick with the stars already at his club.

Alexis excelled as a centre forward last season and that position is already taken up by Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus at City. The Chilean can also star as a winger, but Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sané and £43.5 million new-boy Bernardo Silva is a dangerous triumvirate as it is.

If Patrick Roberts stays with the club, he would add more firepower on City’s wings, all without having to spend big on Sanchez.

The Chilean also has gotten used to being the main man over the past three seasons at the Emirates, and he definitely wouldn’t have that role at the Etihad. Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva are the playmakers for the Sky Blues and Bernardo Silva also fits that bill, even though he will likely be on the wing most of this season.

Although Sanchez’ talents certainly fit with the City squad, there is no clear role for him unless Pep surprisingly sells one of the aforementioned players.

Alexis Sanchez is an appealing potential transfer for any club because of his sheer talent and drive to win, but Manchester City shouldn’t be trying to bring him in. His addition would create a cluster of extremely talented attackers who all want to play but have limited time on the pitch.

The 28-year old certainly isn’t a ‘must-have’ player for Pep’s squad and thus the club should be looking to spend its money elsewhere, or maybe just stick with the quality squad already there.

Tottenham fans react as Bayern Munich eye £50m move for Eric Dier

According to reports in The Sun on Sunday, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier is a £50m target for Bayern Munich.

The Sun on Sunday says that Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti is keen on signing the 23-year-old before the summer transfer window closes at the end of the month and the former Chelsea manager believes Spurs could be tempted to sell for around £50m despite already rebuffing interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United during pre-season.

The England international has become an important and versatile performer for Mauricio Pochettino’s men over the course of the last three seasons, and he featured in defensive midfield and at centre-back in 48 appearances in all competitions last term.

Tottenham supporters were quick to have their say on the rumour via social media, and while some don’t believe it after they refused to sell to United earlier in the summer, others would be willing to get rid of him if Bayern paid £120m.

HYS: Are you happy with Everton’s transfer window?

The summer transfer window marked Ronald Koeman’s chance to truly remodel a squad he inherited from Roberto Martinez at the start of last season, a mission further aided by Farhad Moshiri’s investment and the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United.

Accordingly, Everton were one of the Premier League’s busiest clubs during the summer, making three club-record signings in the form of Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

However, the Toffees failed to offload contract rebel Ross Barkley – meaning they could end up losing him for free at the end of the season – and also missed out on signing a centre-forward, something Koeman had previously hinted was a priority for the Merseyside outfit.

So, Everton fans, are you happy with your club’s transfer window? Could Koeman have got a few more deals over the line? Should the Toffees have done more to sell Barkley? Let us know by voting below…

Insider claims West Ham won’t be selling Diafra Sakho

This morning West Ham fans woke to the news that striker Diafra Sakho was on his way to Rennes after a £9m deal had been agreed between the two clubs. Now, co-owner David Sullivan’s son Jack has taken to Twitter to all but confirm that Sakho will in fact remain a Hammers player beyond Thursday’s 11pm summer transfer window deadline.

Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol had initially revealed on Twitter that Sakho had passed his Rennes medical but Jack Sullivan replied by saying: “I’ve heard he is not leaving.”

Selling Diafra Sakho without finding a worthwhile replacement so close to the end of the window would have been a strange move from the Hammers.

Sakho’s exit would have left Bilic with just Javier Hernandez and Andy Carroll as the only first-team strikers available, although Michail Antonio, Marko Arnautovic and Andre Ayew are all capable of filling up front.

However, Jack Sullivan’s comments potentially mean Sakho will remain a West Ham player for the foreseeable future, which should please Hammers fans.

The Senegal international has struggled with injuries over the last seasons, managing just eight first team outings since the beginning of last season as a result. But this season he has already showed signs of promise, being involved in Hernandez’s equaliser against Southampton before slotting home the opener in West Ham’s 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Cheltenham Town last week.

Given West Ham’s track record in transfer windows, something tells me this isn’t the last we hear of Diafra Sakho before Thursday’s deadline.

If you were Diafra Sakho’s manager, would you sell him? Or would you keep faith in the striker? Well why not try it out by playing online football management game, KickOff Legends.Â

William Carvalho keen to seal January move to West Ham

According to the Daily Mirror, William Carvalho and Slaven Bilic are keen to tie up a deal which would see the Portuguese international move to the London Stadium in January.

What’s the Story?

The 25-year-old was hours away from completing a move to the Hammers this summer before the deal was aborted on deadline day.

However it seems that the Sporting star has not given up hope of a move to the Premier League and could look to complete a deal once the window re-opens in January.

How good was Carvalho last season?

Since breaking into the Sporting team in 2013, William Carvalho has been one of the clubs most consistent performers and last season was no different.

The international, who is valued at £22.2million by Transfermarkt is a tall, strong midfield powerhouse, who is able to assist in both defensive and attacking areas.

A potential partnership between Carvalho and Kouyate at West Ham is bound to set fear into the hearts of the rest of the Premier League.

Is this deal likely to happen?

With Carvalho wanting out of Sporting and West Ham likely still keen on the Portuguese star, the only man in the way of a potential deal is Sporting’s President Bruno de Carvalho.

The 45-year-old threatened to report West Ham to FIFA over an alleged illegal approach for William Carvalho, whilst also condemning Hammer owners David Gold and David Sullivan for their approach to the whole transfer dealing.

Europa League: Theo Walcott stole the show as Arsenal beat BATE Borisov

It’s been a difficult season for Theo Walcott, who has been limited to just 28 minutes of game time in the Premier League despite Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil missing chunks of the campaign through injury.

But the 47-cap England international was given the chance to impress last night in Europa League action and took it firmly with both hands – reminding Arsene Wenger of exactly what he has to offer the Gunners throughout 2017/18.

An explosive start in Belarus saw Walcott net twice in the space of 22 minutes, first getting on the end of a superb cross from Jack Wilshere and then benefiting from goalkeeper Denis Scherbitski’s shockingly loose pass.

But the two goals alone don’t quite do the 28-year-old’s performance justice. For starters, he could’ve easily grabbed a hat-trick having produced another five efforts at goal – including another two on target and one that clipped the woodwork.

Alongside that, Walcott was a relentless menace for the BATE defence, something highlighted by his three created chances, four successful dribbles, five accurate crosses and passing accuracy of 89%.

It remains to be seen just what role Walcott will play for Arsenal this season but judging by his performance last night, the often mercurial winger is more than ready to contribute.

Everton fans slam Michael Keane after Lyon defeat

Everton’s disappointing start to the season continued as they were beaten 2-1 by Lyon in their latest Europa League group game at Goodison Park on Thursday night, and Toffees fans weren’t impressed with Michael Keane’s performance.

The Merseyside outfit came into the clash knowing that they ideally needed to pick up a positive result considering they had taken just one point from the six available to them in Group E, but they got off to the worst possible start when Nabil Fekir scored a penalty in the sixth minute.

Aside from missing the games against Bournemouth and Apollon Limassol because of injury, Keane has played the full 90 minutes in all of Ronald Koeman’s side’s matches so far this season, but he looks to be low on confidence – like many of his teammates – right now.

Everton supporters were quick to have their say on his showing via social media and while some described it as “horrendous”, others simply said he was “shocking”.

Everton fans dismiss Ryan Giggs’ interest in vacant manager’s role

According to Sky Sports, former Manchester United star Ryan Giggs is interested in the vacant Everton manager’s role following the departure of Ronald Koeman, but Toffees fans certainly don’t want him.

The Merseyside outfit are on the search for a new boss after sacking Koeman on Monday following a poor start to the campaign which has left them 18th in the top flight standings, and Giggs has decided to throw his hat into the ring.

The former Red Devil told Sky Sports: “I think you look at those two teams, Leicester being champions two seasons ago, Everton being a fantastic club with a fantastic history, for me these are clubs I would be interested in.”

Despite his experience of playing in the Premier League and being a number two at Old Trafford, the 43-year-old would be taking on his first managerial role if he was handed the job at Goodison Park.

Everton supporters were quick to have their say on the Welshman’s comments via social media, and while some simply said “no thanks”, others believe he won’t even be a candidate as he has “no credentials to manage”.

United midfielder does not want January return to Old Trafford

Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira has admitted that he would prefer to spend the remainder of the 2017-18 campaign on loan at Spanish club Valencia.

Pereira, 21, went against the wishes of United boss Jose Mourinho to join Valencia on a season-long loan during the summer transfer window.

The playmaker has scored once and provided one assist in seven La Liga appearances this season, with his form drawing admiring glances.

United have the chance to recall Pereira during the January transfer window, and it is understood that Mourinho is exploring that possibility due to his injury problems in midfield.

Pereira, however, has revealed that he wants to spend the whole season with Valencia before returning to Old Trafford ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

Pereira told AS:

“When I signed, I knew that this clause existed. But now I am calm, focused on Valencia. Nobody called me from Manchester.

“I’m calm, if they want them to go back they’ll call. I want to stay here for the whole season because I’m fit, I feel good… If I had to go back it would be difficult again.”

Marouane Fellaini, Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick are all currently on the sidelines for United, who suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season away to Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.

Scott McTominay, who benefited from Pereira’s departure, could be given the chance to impress when United visit Swansea City in the fourth round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

Tottenham attacker Son reveals his football idol

Tottenham attacker Heung-Min Son has revealed that Park Ji-Sung is his football ‘idol’ after becoming the highest scoring South Korean in Premier League history.

Son netted his 20th Premier League goal as Tottenham recorded a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

The strike took the 25-year-old above fellow South Korean Park in the scoring charts, with the now 36-year-old managing 19 Premier League goals during his time at Manchester United.

Son revealed his delight after breaking the record, and he was keen to pay tribute to Park, who he described as ‘a legend’.

Son told Tottenham’s official television channel:

“It was a special day for me. I’m just thankful for everyone supporting me. Park Ji-Sung had the record and he’s my idol. He’s a legend. He’s got everything. I’ve a lot to do to catch him.

“It’s a record which makes me happy. I can enjoy this day but I’m still hungry. I hope I can score many, many goals for Spurs.”

Son became the most expensive Asian footballer in history when he joined Tottenham from Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015.

The attacker scored 14 Premier League goals for Spurs during the 2016-17 campaign, and has chipped in with two goals in 10 appearances so far this season.
