Vivo will not be the title sponsor of IPL 2020, the BCCI has confirmed. The board sent out a one-line statement on Thursday afternoon saying: “The BCCI and Vivo Mobile India Pvt Ltd have decided to suspend their partnership for Indian Premier League in 2020.” No other details were provided. It was expected that this would be the case this past week. The development follows a growing public outcry over the tournament’s association with Vivo, a Chinese company, following clashes at the India-China border in June.Vivo had bagged the title sponsorship for two years initially in 2015, and retained the rights signing a five-year contract (2017-22), paying about USD 341 million. It is as yet unclear what the status of the contract is for the next edition of the IPL and beyond. Earlier, had reported that Vivo would return as IPL’s title sponsor for the 2022 and 2023 editions. The decision is not likely to significantly affect the franchises financially. It is understood each franchise gets approximately Rs 20 crore (USD 2.67 million approx) per year from the Vivo contract. As long as the BCCI can rope in a replacement for Vivo, this development should not have any impact on them.
Manchester City are reportedly willing to sell one high-profile player for a "big fee" in the summer transfer window, with Pep Guardiola not convinced about him.
Man City transfer news
City's 2023/24 season ended up being a positive one because of yet another Premier League title triumph, but given the incredible standards they set last time around, only one trophy still felt like a slight disappointment, especially following Saturday's FA Cup final defeat to Manchester United.
It gives Guardiola reason to chase new signings this summer, with the Spaniard someone who chases perfection season in, season out, and plenty of players have been backed to move to the Etihad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
Midfield could be an area to look at, particularly if Bernardo Silva brings an end to his time at City, and Inter Mila star Nicolo Barella has been linked with a move. The Italian is admired by both Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, which speaks volumes, with the latter describing him as a "top-class" footballer.
Pedro Neto has matured into one of the best-attacking players outside of the big Premier League clubs, and he is another rumoured target for City. Newcastle City are believed to be looking to swoop, however, so there could be a battle to snap him up.
Pep willing to sell Man City star
On the flip side, the reigning league champions could lose players, and a new report from Football Insider claims that Manchester City could sell Jack Grealish this summer, as they look to receive a "big fee" for him.
It is claimed that Guardiola "is not completely convinced by the winger and he is considered dispensable as the club look to bring in some extra funds to continue improving their squad this summer."
bryan-gil-jack-grealish-tottenham-opinion
There is arguably plenty of sense in selling Grealish in the summer window, with the 28-year-old enduring an instantly forgettable season on a personal level. Injuries haven't helped him, but when he has been available, his performances haven't caught the eye in the slightest, with only three goals and one assist coming his way in 20 Premier League appearances.
The £300,000-a-week England international no longer feels like a key man, especially with Jeremy Doku coming in and looking more of a threat on the left wing, and considering Grealish turns 30 next year, this summer could be the best time to cash in on him.
In fairness to Grealish, he has spent much of his time playing a more disciplined role than at Aston Villa, where he was far more of a maverick, but it's hard to shake the idea that he has rarely looked like a £100m player during his time at City, never coming close to having the same impact as the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Rodri and Bernardo, to name just a few.
Fabrizio Romano: £100,000-a-week Man City star may leave with Saudi clubs keen
He could have played his last game for the club already.
ByBen Browning May 22, 2024
For that reason, losing him may not feel like a big blow, so Guardiola and those high up at the club should be listening to offers for him in the coming months.

VVS Laxman and Muttiah Muralitharan engage in discussion at the IPL auction•Sportzpics
VVS Laxman, the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batting mentor, feels that empty stands won’t affect the quality of cricket in the 2020 IPL but he is a little wary of the nature of pitches in the UAE.The Sunrisers, along with the Delhi Capitals, are the last of the eight IPL sides to reach the UAE. Both sides took the same chartered flight and landed in the UAE on Sunday. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the tournament will be played behind closed doors in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.”I can assure all the fans of the game that they will really enjoy the competition even though there won’t be any crowd or any spectators on the ground,” Laxman said in a video released by the franchise on Sunday. “Don’t ever think that the energy or the quality of cricket will come down.”Probably the wickets may be on the slower side but we have to just wait and see because we may just be surprised with the efforts put in by the ground staff. The outfield will be fantastic but the wickets are something that I hope will be well taken care of by the ground staff.”In the 2020 IPL auction, the Sunrisers had focused on young Indian middle-order batsmen. They picked Priyam Garg, Abdul Samad and Virat Singh among others. Laxman said that it was a conscious effort on part of the management. “In the auction, it was a very intentional effort to have the youngsters. While they are youngsters, they are all the most prolific performers in domestic cricket. When you see the composition of our team, we had a lot of experienced players from both overseas and India. But when we look at the domestic players, we [were] required to strengthen our batting, especially our middle-order batting. So we went with the performer in the last couple of seasons.”Ahead of the auction, the Sunrisers had made changes to their coaching personnel too. Trevor Bayliss replaced Tom Moody as the head coach, while Brad Haddin came in for Simon Helmot as the assistant coach. Haddin and Bayliss have worked together before, winning the 2012 Champions League T20 for Sydney Sixers as captain and coach, respectively. Bayliss had also coached the Kolkata Knight Riders from 2012 to 2015, a period during which they won two IPL titles. Laxman is upbeat about the prospect of working with both of them.”Trevor is one of the most successful coaches in world cricket; England won the World Cup for the first time under his coaching,” Laxman said. “He is someone who I have always admired and all the interactions I have had with him have been excellent – I learnt something with every interaction. He is a cool, calm person and an amazing human being. At the same time, he has the temperament of handling the best of teams and the best of players.”I played against Brad Haddin a lot when I was playing for India and he is someone who is a hardcore competitor. He will definitely give 100% or probably more than 100% as the assistant coach. I am looking forward to working with both Trevor and Brad.”

Sunderland had a season to forget in the Championship, as Mike Dodds steered the Black Cats to an eventual 16th-place finish under his dismal interim tenure.
It's been a dramatic decline for a side who were competing in the second-tier play-offs just last season with Tony Mowbray at the helm, losing out to Luton Town in the semi-finals after winning the home leg, with Sunderland finishing a dire 17 points shy of the top six this term in contrast.
Losing six games on the trot under Dodds' tenure was a particularly dark point of the season, with a feeling of relief when the campaign was finally over and done with after a 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.
Sunderland could look at "highly-regarded" manager over Svensson
Sunderland could now look towards this Bo Svensson alternative for their next manager.
ByKelan Sarson May 13, 2024
With just one goal mustered up in the entirety of April, it looked unlikely that Dodds would be handed the full-time job at the conclusion of the campaign, and Sunderland will now be searching for a successor who can lift the spirits back up and get results on the pitch heading in the right direction.
With that in mind, who could the powers that be at the Wearside outfit opt for next in the dugout? Here are 10 candidates that have been tipped for the Sunderland vacancy.

1 Will Still Free agent (Last job: Stade Reims)
Former Stade Reims manager Will Still is currently the favourite to take over the reins from a disappointing Dodds, with Sunderland eyeing up the Belgian head coach for some time now.
Still's name was being talked about for the job when the disastrous reign of Michael Beale was put out of its misery before Dodds took on his interim duties, and there are many valid reasons why his name keeps floating about for this vacancy.
Only 31 years of age, Still could be the perfect face to take over and transform this equally raw and young group of players, with his CV in France seeing him take Reims to 11th in Ligue 1 and masterminding a much-talked-about 19-game unbeaten streak.
He could well feel it is time to finally take on the Sunderland job, with the odds pointing in the direction that he's the most plausible Dodds successor out there.
2 Liam Rosenior Free agent (Last job: Hull City)
Just sacked from his post at Hull City at the start of May, Liam Rosenior could view this Sunderland vacancy as the best way to bounce back and prove any doubters wrong.
Rosenior managed to catapult the Tigers up to a seventh-placed finish this season just gone, before being somewhat harshly relieved of his duties.
Accumulating 27 wins from 78 games in charge of Hull and only losing 23, Rosenior could want a new club soon to try to kick on after the disappointment of leaving his old side behind.
3 Paul Heckingbottom Free agent (Last job: Sheffield United)
The first manager with substantial EFL experience on the list, ex-Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom is high up the odds to be Dodds' successor at the Stadium of Light.
As much as his time at Bramall Lane ended on a duff note, with the Blades sitting bottom of the Premier League when he departed, Heckingbottom did manage to steer the Blades to a promotion success and has that on his CV at the very least.
Getting the best out of dynamic attacking talents such as Iliman Ndiaye when in the Blades hot seat as well, who netted 14 goals during his final season at Bramall Lane, Jobe Bellingham could shine even brighter if the former Barnsley manager gets the call to come in.
4 Bo Svensson Free agent (Last job: Mainz)
Mainz boss Bo Svensson
Another left-field name – who last managed in the German Bundesliga – and high up the odds to become the next Black Cats boss is Bo Svensson, who was previously in charge of Mainz, where Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel kickstarted their respective managerial paths.
Svensson could well fancy relocating to England to replicate this pair's success as well, with Svensson picking up 39 wins for Mainz across 109 games before being given the boot late last year.
If Sunderland can't get a deal over the line to appoint Still, expect an approach for the Dane to be forthcoming.
Next Chelsea manager: Who could replace Mauricio Pochettino?
Pochettino has sensationally left Chelsea, but who could be in the running for the job?
ByRobbie Walls May 27, 2024 5 Frank Lampard Free agent (last job: Chelsea)
Frank Lampard claps the fans as Chelsea play in the Premier League.
Frank Lampard may not have had the greatest last few years in management, with the former England midfielder losing his Everton job to Sean Dyche in January 2023, just months after keeping them in the Premier League. That was followed by a terrible return as interim boss at Chelsea, with the Blues ending the 2022/23 season in the bottom half.
However, the Stamford Bridge legend does have experience in the Championship – and a more positive one, at that. He guided Derby County to the play-off final in his only season at Pride Park, only to fall to Aston Villa. Maybe the step back down is what he needs to resurrect his managerial career, and return Sunderland to the big time in the process.
6 Rene Maric Bayern Munich U19s
The first manager on this list to still be tied down to a club, Bayern Munich U19s coach Rene Maric knows all too well the dramas of football in England, having been assistant manager to Jesse Marsch at Leeds United for a brief stint.
Away from that association, Maric has garnered a reputation for being an attack-minded coach in Germany, with his U19s side netting 26 goals this season in league action from 11 games.
If the Sunderland hierarchy want to raise the excitement levels, they could well approach the daring 31-year-old, who could well end up being their very own Danny Rohl, who joined Sheffield Wednesday from the Bavarian giants to great success.
7 Slaven Bilic Al-Fateh
slaven-bilic-west-ham
Current Al Fateh boss Slaven Bilic also has experience managing in the tough demands of the Championship, having been in charge of West Bromwich Albion between 2019 and 2020 and securing automatic promotion to the Premier League in that timespan.
A nomadic manager who has taken charge of teams from all over the world, including China, Turkey and Saudi Arabia across his varied career, the Croat could jump at the opportunity to return to England with Sunderland.
He could well have an outside chance of being the Black Cats' new boss.
8 Steve Cooper Free agent (last job: Nottingham Forest)
Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper.
Steve Cooper appears to be a man in demand, which may explain why he isn't higher up this list. Indeed, the former Nottingham Forest boss may well have other suitors lining up for his services, which may mean another stint in the Championship with Sunderland doesn't end up being the most appetising.
However, he took on a similar role when accepting Nottingham Forest's offer and took them up immediately, so it's not totally out of the question if this is a task tailor-made for Cooper to succeed.
9 John Terry Free agent (last job: n/a)
This would certainly be a bold move by the Wearsiders, particularly given John Terry, for all of his playing achievements, has no senior management roles to speak of.
Having previously held assistant roles at Aston Villa and Leicester City, he is no stranger to the dugout, but stepping up as a manager would hardly be a risk-free appointment, particularly when Sunderland look like a team desperate for some inspiration.

+ Guarani x Botafogo: prováveis times, desfalques e onde assistir
– A falta dele é enorme. É o principal jogador do time, artilheiro do elenco e líder em assistências.
“If it looked like there was a lack of respect there, that certainly wasn’t the intention of our team”
Daniel Brettig15-Sep-2020Australia’s coach Justin Langer has admitted that the national team did not commit enough time to understanding and learning about the Black Lives Matter issue before choosing not to take a knee prior to their first game since the movement entered the cricket world in a big way earlier this year.Following blunt criticism from Michael Holding, Langer said that as Cricket Australia went through its own extensive process of reflection about how inclusive it has been for people of colour, the team should have found more time to contemplate taking a knee before the opening match of the T20I series in Southampton.”In terms of the taking a knee, to be completely honest we could’ve talked more about it perhaps leading up to that first game; there was so much going on leading up to us getting here, maybe we should’ve thought and talked a bit more about it,” Langer said. “What we do talk about in the team is we want to have a response that is sustained and powerful and it can go, not just in one action, but sustained periods, not just throughout this series, throughout our summer, but throughout time.ALSO READ: Holding ‘doesn’t know anything that’s going on’ – Archer”We’re looking at ways, I know there’s a lot of talk going on within our group about how we can, I know there’s a lot of talking going on about the Australian women’s team as well, about how we can have a sustained and powerful response to Black Lives Matter. It’s incredibly important, and I just hope and certainly from Mikey’s point of view I hope if it looked like there was a lack of respect there, that certainly wasn’t the intention of our team.”We’re very aware of it, and when Mikey says what he says, then it’s certainly worth listening to and we’ll be doing that.”Prior to the game, Australia captain Aaron Finch had explained that “education around it is more important than the protest”, in reference to the symbolic gesture made by a succession of sporting teams around the world in recent months.Holding had bridled at this attitude. “Now Australia come here and I see another lame statement from the Australia captain who is saying that he and the England captain have spoken and they decided not to take a knee,” Holding had said on “I would hope that anyone who gets involved in something like this [does it] because they want to get involved.”So I would hope that people who are joining in, and are still willing to accept that things need to change and need to send a signal, will voluntarily do what they think is right.”Langer, who has overseen a reinvention of the Australian team’s image since the Newlands ball-tampering scandal in 2018, conceded he and others had been stopped in their tracks by Holding’s words.”Michael Holding is one of the great people of world sport, and certainly our game,” Langer said. “He’s a person who I personally have great admiration, great respect, great love for, and we all watched his presentation, his heartfelt thoughts at the start of the summer. When someone like Michael says something like that, it is certainly important we all listen to it.”It was a powerful statement by Mikey, as it has been consistently from him and from others throughout the summer, and because of that, it was a powerful message.”
