Thisara Perera has raised questions about the ODI team’s leadership with Sri Lanka Cricket in the aftermath of a social media beef between him and captain Lasith Malinga’s wife. He has also described the team as “a laughing stock to the whole country” because of the exchanges unfolding on social media, and asked that the board “intervene”.Thisara, a former limited-overs captain himself, had ostensibly been the target of a Facebook post made by Malinga’s wife, Tanya Perera, early this month, in which she appeared to have alleged that Thisara had gone to meet the country’s new sports minister in an attempt to secure his place in the national side.Thisara then took to Facebook to defend himself, pointing to his excellent ODI record in 2018. Then, a few weeks later, following what he claimed was another post targeting him, he has taken the step of writing a letter to SLC CEO Ashley de Silva.Excerpts of the letter are as follows: “When these kinds of accusations are made by the incumbent captain’s wife on social media, it is hard to prevent the general public from believing and further slandering me in various ways.”There has been a general sense of unease in the dressing room ever since [the Facebook post] and to be honest the environment was rather unpleasant for the youngsters especially when two senior players were not on the same page. We cannot play as a team with friction. The leadership’s role is to create stability and unity within the team even before one could start with a game plan. In this instant I regret to say we had none of the above.””We are at the verge of the World Cup. Our focus and attention should be on performing well at it instead of bickering over social media on pointless issues. This team is in dire need of steady leadership and guidance. Importantly, and environment of unity is needed… These issues need rectifying ahead of the World Cup. Crystal Palace transfers latest – Eddie Nketiah

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Palace are interested in signing a forward, with Eddie Nketiah on the list.

The Arsenal star, who is “very Ian Wright like” according to pundit Tony Cascarino, is valued at £40m by the Gunners, according to Football Insider.

However, the north Londoners aren't willing to sell Nketiah unless they sign a new striker in January, leaving the ball in Arsenal’s court.

How Nketiah compares to Jean-Phillipe Mateta

Neither Odsonne Edouard nor Jean-Phillipe Mateta have been able to make the number nine role at Selhurst Park their own, as shown by the fact that they have both netted just 35 goals between them in 172 combined appearances.

Over the last few years, it seems that a true centre forward has been the final piece of the Palace puzzle, and they could have done with a player like Ian Wright, who scored 118 goals in 227 appearances for the Eagles between 1985 and 1991 – prior to his own heroics in the red of Arsenal.

Wright was a clinical poacher with a vast skillset, and Nketiah’s movement and “pure goal scorer” trait, as per Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, are reminiscent of the former Palace and Gunners icon.

The table below displays Mateta’s and Nketiah’s stats from the last year across the top European leagues, with the Englishman seemingly set to offer a potential upgrade for Hodgson and co.

As you can see by the non-penalty goals per 90 stats, the Arsenal forward is much more of a goal-scorer than Mateta. Nketiah also possesses athletic attributes that Hodgson doesn’t currently have within his striker options, such as pace and dynamism.

The Englishman’s movement – which has been likened to Wright by pundit Roy Keane – is also elite, which would give Palace an option to play the ball in behind, as Mateta is a striker who lacks speed and is essentially a target player.

With the creativity of Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise, who star on opposite sides, Nketiah would thrive in the box where he likes to operate, as displayed by the high number of touches he has in the attacking penalty area. Furthermore, the 24-year-old is capable of carrying the ball forward, which will make him dangerous in the Palace side which tends to create most of their chances on the counterattack.

Another attribute that would be vital at Palace and make him an upgrade on their number 14 is that the Gunners attacker retains the ball brilliantly. This is portrayed by his high pass completion statistics, and as the Eagles tend to endure spells without possession, it is important that they aren’t wasteful when they do win it back.

Overall, it is clear that Nketiah has plenty of desirable traits that would enhance Palace. If they can keep hold of Eze and Olise and sign the Arsenal forward, the Eagles could go from a steady mid-table side to a team that could be challenging for European spots.

-Sobre o Luan, não houve desistência, o atleta vem há cerca de 60 dias com um incômodo nos adutores, e como nós tínhamos o último jogo agora e a estreia do Campeonato Paulista, foi agravado um pouquinho de algumas queixas do atleta, então nós achamos melhor tirar o Luan desse jogo, não sabemos se ele terá condições no domingo, mas eu não desisti do jogador. Aliás, eu não posso desistir de ninguém, porque o futebol, a cada dia, se renova e acaba gerando novas oportunidades para todo mundo – concluiu o comandante alvinegro.

As every transfer window opens, the Mbappe rumours begin, with Real Madrid always at the forefront ahead of Liverpool. And this time is no different. Reports suggest that the Reds are still in contention for the Paris Saint-Germain star's signature in the summer transfer window in what would arguably be one of the most impressive deals in Premier League history. Meanwhile, Frimpong's Liverpool links have suggested that the Reds are eyeing a move to sign the Bayer Leverkusen right-back in the summer transfer window for as little as £35m.

With that said, it already looks likely to be a busy few months for those at Anfield, who are also now leading the way to sign a replacement for Joel Matip. According to Nice-Matin, via Get French Football News, Liverpool are in pole position to sign Jean-Clair Todibo in a move that would see them hijack Manchester United's potential deal. As per Rudy Galetti, Manchester United were in pole position themselves to sign Todibo, before seemingly conceding that spot to their Premier League rivals.

Any deal will reportedly take place in the summer, however, with the defender unlikely to leave this January given Nice's €60m (£52m) asking price. As Matip's contract expires in the summer and the window swings open once more though, Liverpool could make their move, especially since Klopp is reportedly tempted by the idea of a defensive partnership between Todibo and Ibrahima Konate.

It's no surprise after performing so well for Nice that Todibo has earned such high praise during his time at the club, including from former teammate Aaron Ramsey. It’s like he was never gone. The most consistent batsman of the IPL, David Warner, has returned to the tournament after serving his one-year ban for his role in the ball-tampering scandal like a man possessed. His first three innings back have been 85, 69 and an unbeaten 100 at an average strike rate of 176.22. In the process he has also strung together three consecutive 100-run stands with bitter Ashes rival Jonny Bairstow. His extremely emotional reaction after reaching the hundred against Royal Challengers Bangalore, in front of a doting home crowd, said a lot.Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody expected nothing less, especially when Warner had a point to prove. “[He has been] in a very good place [mentally],” Moody said. “He has come back full of enthusiasm, full of determination, and with a lot to prove. One thing David Warner – and I think all top players are the same – they have got an unquenchable thirst for the game and to have success in the game. That thirst certainly hasn’t been withdrawn by any means.”It seems the thirst has only grown in the time Warner has spent outside competitive cricket. “Yes he has had to sit out of top-flight cricket, international cricket for 12 months,” Moody said, “but David Warner has been preparing for six months for his comeback. He has played a couple of franchise tournaments over that 12-month period, he has obviously played club cricket in Sydney as well.”Okay it is not the same standard but he has been preparing more mentally more than technically. His game technically is relatively sound, so it is just a case of getting himself sorted mentally. He welcomed the start of the tournament and [a chance] for him to get back on the horse so to speak.”Moody said Warner has managed to stay positive, as always. “He has always had a very positive mindset,” he said. “He is a very determined and a resilient individual. To endure what he and [Steven] Smith and [Cameron] Bancroft have had to endure over 12 months, there has to be a lot of mental toughness, there has to be a lot of resilience, and having also a very positive mindset because you can very easily find yourself down for long periods of time.”Warner’s presence has also helped Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who is leading the side in the absence of the injured Kane Williamson. “His leadership is always there and present,” Moody said. “Someone that has his experience and his knowledge around captaincy but more importantly around playing IPL cricket is invaluable.”Smith, Warner and Bancroft were banned – the first two for a year and Bancroft for nine months – for their roles in the infamous Newlands Test in March 2018, when Bancroft was caught on camera hiding yellow sandpaper in his pants. Though the ICC’s penalties were not harsh, Cricket Australia decided to take strict action and the players accepted their punishment without protest.While Smith and Bancroft have since done interviews – Smith has done an advertisement too – Warner has stayed away from public appearances.
