Is Wilfried Gnonto leaving Leeds?
Having refused to play for Leeds, Gnonto has now handed in a transfer request to ensure he gets his move this summer, and Everton have made their interest clear, having previously had a number of bids turned down.
At first, Leeds had been unwilling to sanction the winger's departure, but his refusal to play may eventually force their hand, as he continues to push for a move to Goodison Park, where he is thought of in very high regard by manager Sean Dyche.
Linking up with the Toffees would give the Italian the best possible chance of being selected in his country's European Championships squad next summer, which is a big reason why he is so keen on the move, and a new bid may be on its way soon.
After having their latest offer, which amounted to £25m, knocked back by Leeds, Everton are now likely to make a final bid this week, which is set to be in the region of £30m, with crucial talks between the two clubs pencilled in over the next few days.
On the player's side of things, an agreement has already been reached in principle, with meetings taking place as far back as spring, and Galetti has now provided another update on the 19-year-old's stance about a move to Merseyside.
In an interview with GiveMeSport, the journalist clarified that a move to Goodison Park is the best option on the table for the youngster at the moment, meaning he is now committed to the move:
“Everton are focused on signing a new offensive player. We’ve previously discussed that Gnonto represents the main target.
“After the initial hesitation of the Italian player, he’s now given the green light for the move, especially because he doesn't want to play in the Championship and also because there are no other interesting alternatives for him to leave Leeds.
“Now, he's out of the squad, and Everton are pushing hard with the player leveraging also on his side to make the move happen.”
However, since then, Phil Hay has revealed that the Italian is back in training with Leeds after missing the last three games.

As of February 12th last season, the starlet had recorded the second-highest WhoScored match rating of any under 21 in the Premier League, and he could now be ready to kick on and improve on his tally of two goals and four assists in the top flight.
It has been well-documented that the Toffees are not in the best financial state, so £30m would be a huge sum to fork out on one, relatively unproven Premier League player, but journalist Joe Donnohue believes he has "considerable potential."

First it was Phillip Hughes. Then it was Ed Cowan. Then Chris Rogers. Then Joe Burns. Then Shaun Marsh. This year it looked like being Matt Renshaw, but instead will be Cameron Bancroft. This is the roll call of batsmen who have started Australia’s Test summers as David Warner’s opening partner; Rogers is the only man to have done so more than once. A new opening colleague for Warner every summer is becoming a tradition in Australian cricket.Renshaw may be unlucky to have been dropped following an encouraging start to his Test career, but Bancroft certainly comes to the role with strong credentials as a foil for the destructive Warner. If patience is a virtue, no player in Australia in recent years has been as virtuous as Bancroft. In 2015, he occupied the crease for a remarkable 797 minutes in compiling 211 for Western Australia in a Sheffield Shield game against a strong New South Wales attack.And after entering this summer fresh from a 512-minute double-century for Gloucestershire at the tail end of the county season, Bancroft carried his bat for 76 and then scored 86 in the second innings against a New South Wales attack boasting Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon. Then he followed up with another double-hundred next game against South Australia.
“I certainly think I can get better at concentrating and batting for long periods of time,” Bancroft said on Tuesday. That seems a near unattainable goal. In the recent game against New South Wales, Bancroft was involved in every delivery for the first three and a half days of the contest: wicketkeeping, carrying his bat, wicketkeeping again, and then nearly reaching a century as opener in the second innings.”Most of us were in his ear the whole game,” Hazlewood said this week. “He’s a good fighter, I guess, and he’s put the runs on the board this summer, and in previous summers.”Warner’s observations of that Shield match were that Bancroft was technically sound and knew his own game well. “He looks very complete in the nets,” Warner said. “I’ve been very, very happy with what I’ve seen of him.”This is not the first time Bancroft has been within touching distance of a baggy green. In 2015, he was chosen in Australia’s squad for the Test tour of Bangladesh when Warner was injured. Bancroft would have opened alongside Burns on that trip, but the tour was postponed for security reasons. An inconsistent stretch of form followed for Bancroft, who admits that at times he can be too intense, too focused for his own good.”It was difficult, I just wanted it so badly,” Bancroft said. “I wanted it so badly and I wasn’t patient enough. It took me a little while just to sit back and kind of go, this is where I want to go, just got to trust it … I can get a bit tense and try a bit too hard at times. I think over the last five years of my career it’s been something I’ve had to learn and develop.”Having that work ethic and that intensity is a really good thing and a really positive thing in the right times but learning when those times are, that’s part of the challenge of being a professional cricketer and it’s probably taken me a lot of time to learn about it.”Bancroft was “stitched up” (in the words of Warner) this week when told jokingly that new players in the team have to make a speech at dinner; Bancroft did so without hesitation. But one task he won’t have to be tricked into is fielding under the helmet at short-leg. Typically, that position is thrust upon the newest member of the side, but Bancroft has made short-leg his own specialist spot.”At the start, I just did the role because I was the youngest player in the [Western Australia] side,” he said. “Then I took a couple of really good chances and I thought about it and thought, there’s probably no-one really in the world who sits there and thinks ‘I want to be really good at this’. I remember a couple of years ago at the cricket academy I worked really hard on it and set myself a goal to be really good in that position.”There’s a lot of luck involved, or reaction. I think wicketkeeping helped – my ability to stay low and things like that … I have fun doing it. I feel like you’re always in the game, and I love the prospect of being able to make a difference to the game by taking a catch or even stopping a run that gets flicked and it hits you or something. It’s a challenge that I embrace.”

What age is Folarin Balogun?
Balogun is 22 years of age and an academy graduate at the Emirates Stadium having worked his way up through the various youth ranks to get promoted to the first team back in 2022, but having only ever made ten senior appearances, he’s spent a lot of time out on the road.

According to Football Transfers, Balogun has “agreed personal terms” with Chelsea, who are currently “in talks” with Arsenal over a deal for their talented prospect.
Todd Boehly holds an “optimism” that an agreement can be reached, but it’s worth noting that the Gunners aren’t willing to sanction his sale for anything less than their £50m asking price, a sum which chiefs have “no interest” in cashing out.

Zimbabwe Cricket has already begun their succession plan for life after Brendan Taylor (31) and Hamilton Masakadza (34), two of their most senior cricketers who are now in their thirties. With matches, tournaments, funding and sponsorship hard to come by, the coaches and management are going all out to get Zimbabwe nationals playing a competitive level of cricket in other countries, particularly at the Under-19 level to begin with.”The main challenge is our school system, which we always rely on to tap on talent. The level of cricket has gone down because they play just seven 50-over games the whole year,” Stephen Mangongo, Zimbabwe’s Under-19 coach, said. “There’s no two-day or three-day games, nothing. That scenario is not ideal. You cannot produce international cricketers in such a system. That is the biggest challenge.”Among those in the current Under-19 squad to have played abroad are: Donald Mlambo, who studies in England and has been scoring heaps of runs for a Suffolk-based club, Alistair Frost, an offspinner who plays for Hilton College in South Africa, Tinashe Nenhunzi, who plays in Durban, and Taun Harrison, who has been performing well at the school level in Cape Town. Wesley Madhevere, who also plays in South Africa, is now in his second World Cup after debuting in Bangladesh as a 15-year old.Often it is the lack of exposure that has driven talent away, a harsh reality in troubled times. “From Zimbabwe, because of lack of enough cricket, talented youngsters move to South Africa where they play a minimum of 50 games in a year,” Mangongo said. “Some play in England for the same reason. However, they’re still Zimbabweans. Hamilton Masakadza and Brendan Taylor are in their mid-30s. They aren’t going to be there for long. It is Zimbabwe Cricket’s duty to identify players now, so that they can graduate to international cricket in the next three-four years. It is a sustained program to go into South African schools and identify Zimbabweans.”While Mangongo is keen on working on bringing back overseas talent, he’s also mindful of the frustration cricketers endure from within because of lack of exposure in a struggling financial environment in Zimbabwe. It’s an area he hopes Zimbabwe Cricket will be able to address quickly. “It’s a massive challenge, we can’t hide that fact,” he said. “It’s difficult. A talented cricketer wants to play enough cricket. If they come back and don’t play first-class or for Zimbabwe A, youngsters will look elsewhere. Their job is to play, evolve and move to the next stage. The stop-start becomes a real threat to serious cricketers but I’m sure Zimbabwe Cricket is trying its level best. Brendan Taylor or Kyle Jarvis woudn’t come back if cricket in the country wasn’t on a revival part. They had good contracts in England. Within the next three-four years, we want cricket to become sustainable.”In recent times, though, there has been an upswing in fortunes of the game in Zimbabwe. Mangongo particularly stresses on how Taylor’s return has spelt new hope, even as the board is slowly picking up the pieces under a revamped structure and administration.”His return is a show of confidence. It’s a massive indicator to a lot of youngsters who have grown up idolising Taylor,” he said “It also tells the youngsters that ‘wow, Brendan is back. It gives me hope to continue playing cricket’. Because if a seasoned player can make a decision to come back and play for Zimbabwe, then the youngsters who want to dream, who want to play cricket seriously in the country, they start to believe in themselves that it can be done.”In that regard, having a number of players return ahead of the Under-19 World Cup is a victory in itself, according to the coach. But he’s aware of the need to ensure these players become the fulcrum of their plans over the next four-five years. He not only hopes four or five of them graduate to the national team but wants to use them to ensure schools cricket is revived again in the country.”As a coach, coming from where Zimbabwean schoolboy cricket is; it’s in the gutter to be honest,” Mangongo said. “We’ve got really about five schools that are serious cricketing schools. To then come to international youth level and rubbing shoulders with quality cricketers is a challenge. Youth cricketers are ruthless. They’re not playing for money. They’re playing to perform. That’s all they want to do. They play hard, they tough. So, for us this Under-19 World Cup is a massive jump.”

According to Sky Sports News [1st September, 09:51am), Manchester United are in advanced talks with Serie A outfit Fiorentina for midfield maestro Sofyan Amrabat.
Red Devils director of football negotiations Matt Hargreaves has flown to Italy today to try and close a deal for the Moroccan, with The Athletic's David Ornstein reporting that there is no agreement between the respective outfits.

The reporter inside Old Trafford revealed that Amrabat was "keen to join" Erik ten Hag's side live on air, so it's now down to both clubs to agree on the terms of a deal, with La Viola thought to value him at £30m.
A loan deal with an obligation to buy has been discussed, but time is in short supply, so the United hierarchy will need to make progress swiftly.
How good is Sofyan Amrabat?
Despite Manchester United placing Amrabat at the top of the shopping list for the entirety of the summer transfer window, the closing stage is nigh and the 27-year-old has yet to join the fold at the Theatre of Dreams.
The prestigious Premier League outfit have closed a deal for Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon today – to combat the long-term injury to Luke Shaw – but still need to buttress the midfield with a first-class acquisition.
Fabrizio Romano claimed that the midfielder has always been the "top target" for Ten Hag's side, having thrived at the centre of Fiorentina's squad and dazzled on the biggest stage with Morocco at the 2022 World Cup, with his nation becoming the first African side to reach the final four.

While this is his standout faculty, Amrabat is considered a "raging bull" in the midfield – as said by journalist Amine El Amri – with an admirable "defensive instinct", according to pundit Joe Cole.
It is because of this that United would land a massive upgrade on Scott McTominay by signing the 6 foot 1 gem, with the Scotland international said to be "not good enough" for the Red Devils by club legend Roy Keane.
McTominay is also attracting attention from the likes of Fulham, who are establishing contingency plans in case Joao Palhinha departs for Bayern Munich today, and United might be wise to ship the long-serving player on to recuperate funds for the Amrabat deal.
McTominay is a tenacious defensive presence and ranks among the top 1% of midfielders for clearances and aerial wins per 90, but only ranks among the top 52% for pass completion and the bottom 7% for progressive passes per 90.
Given the vision that Ten Hag has, Amrabat would be the perfect signing to tidy up the midfield and increase the robustness, and while McTominay has served Old Trafford well, now might be a good time to move onto the next chapter, with the La Viola phenom proving to be a monumental upgrade.
