39 y/o Not Considered For Spurs Sporting Director Job

Journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are not considering a move to hire Brentford's Lee Dykes as their new sporting director.

Who will Tottenham appoint as their next sporting director?

With Fabio Paratici leaving the club around the same time as Antonio Conte, Daniel Levy has a big job on his hands this summer as he makes not one but two vital appointments at Spurs.

And it had seemed as though the north London were potentially going to raid their Premier League rivals to bring in Dykes from the Bees.

Indeed, earlier on in May, journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that the "highly rated" executive was on Tottenham's list as a target.

However, while speaking about the latest on it all on YouTube channel, Gold suggested that Dykes was actually no longer being considered.

The journalist explained (0:56): "There was also, I know, a lot of talk about Lee Dykes at Brentford.

"From what I understand, he's not a candidate being considered.”

Who has Dykes signed for Brentford?

Dykes has done a great job working with Brentford, helping them establish themselves as tricky Premier League opposition – as Spurs found out this weekend in the 3-0 loss.

Indeed, as the club's head of scouting since 2019 – before becoming technical director last summer – he was presumably an important figure in landing Ivan Toney from Peterborough for just an initial £5m.

He was also around when the club paid the same price to sign David Raya from Blackburn Rovers, which will be of note to Spurs fans as they have been strongly linked with a move for the goalkeeper this summer.

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

With that being the case, it may well come as a bit of a blow to learn that Dykes isn't on the club's radar and Spurs won't be hiring the 39-year-old.

And so it remains unclear who the primary target is for this role, just as it's still not known who the Premier League club want to appoint as manager either.

On that front, a fresh update from The Times claims that Julian Nagelsmann is back on the radar again but this goes against conflicting reports which suggest the opposite.

All in all, it would take a brave individual to place any bets on a name for either vacant position but you can at least be pretty sure that it won't be Dykes to come in as sporting director.

Ganguly hurt by Shastri's 'personal attack'

‘Being in such committees for 10 years, he should be aware of how it operates’

A day after Ravi Shastri said he felt disrespected by the absence of Sourav Ganguly at his interview for the post of India’s head coach, Ganguly has responded by saying he was “very saddened” by Shastri’s “personal attack.”Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and former BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale were part of the cricket advisory panel to find a successor for Shastri, who had been in charge of the Indian team for 18 months until the World T20 in March 2016. The panel had met the final contenders, including Shastri, last Tuesday before Anil Kumble was given the job.Controversy arose when Shastri told the media that a member of the panel had not been present at his meeting and that “that person was disrespectful of the candidate who was going to the interviewed and disrespectful to the job he was entrusted to do.”Ganguly was the one who had to miss Shastri’s presentation because he had to attend the working committee meeting of the Cricket Association of Bengal, where he is president. He said he left for the CAB knowing the rest of the cricket advisory committee had the experience to make the right call.”I just feel that the comments are very personal and if Ravi Shastri feels that I am responsible for him not being the coach of India, he’s living in a fool’s world,” Ganguly told TV reporters in Kolkata. “It’s a committee and there are people in the committee who are of more repute than I am and there are other people involved also who were consulted and spoken about. So that’s disappointing.”I am extremely saddened when he went on air, expressing his views, especially from someone who has been in every BCCI committee for the last 20 years. He has been in my position, you know, the position to select the coach. I don’t think he’s aware of everything.”Ganguly said Shastri’s meeting was scheduled at 4.15 pm, but assessing the other candidates had taken a little more time than expected. Ganguly was expected at the CAB at 5 pm, and had already gained the BCCI’s consent to temporarily leave the panel for this purpose.”I had informed the BCCI on the 19th [of June] in an official mail that I will have to leave at 5 o’ clock because the CAB working committee meeting was supposed to happen that day and being the president of the association, I’m supposed to chair the meeting.”The working committee meetings get decided 14 days before the meeting and to cancel it is impossible. And this meeting was decided in two days. Ravi’s meeting was at 4.15 pm in the afternoon and doing interviews with everyone it went past [that time] and we reached 5 o’clock.”I requested the committee if I could come back at six o’clock and do it again, which they agreed. Once I came here to this meeting, I got a message from Mr [Ajay] Shirke [the BCCI secretary] that the other two members are requesting if they could continue with Ravi, which I was fine with. I said ‘Fine, I know I have been stuck with this and you please go ahead and do it.’ That happens everywhere in the world and that’s the exact story.”Ganguly said he was also saddened that Shastri, a man who has worked with the BCCI for a long time and knew the hurdles administrative matters could throw up, had commented about him in such bad light.”It’s disappointing, being in such committees for 10 years, he should be aware of how it operates. I’m personally hurt because of what he said, of disrespecting, which was not the case. If that was the case, Ravi’s interview would not have been slotted at 4.15 pm and I’ve got the mails.”Answering a question from on what advice he would give Ganguly, Shastri had said “next time be at a meeting when someone is being interviewed for a position as important as that.”In response, Ganguly took offence to Shastri making his presentation via Skype instead of appearing before the panel in person.”Since he’s spoken about disrespect, and honestly I say this with anger, that he gave me a suggestion that in the future that I should be available for such meetings. I’ve been part of the BCCI for a while now and I make sure I’m available for such meetings.”I have an advice for him also, when the coach of India is selected and it’s one of the most important jobs in cricket, he should be in front of the committee giving his presentation and not sit in Bangkok on holiday and make a presentation on camera especially when someone who is one of the greatest cricketers of India all time spoke for two hours nearly, Anil Kumble.”

Rangers Tracking £3.5m-Rated Striker Ahead Of Summer Window

Rangers have their eyes on a striker this summer, with The Scottish Sun reporting that Ike Ugbo is on the club's radar ahead of the transfer window.

Who are Rangers signing this summer?

The forward currently plays for Troyes in Ligue 1, where he has featured on 23 occasions this campaign with two goals and one assist. He's had to make do with minutes off the bench in the large part though, with the former Chelsea reserve man having only seven starts for his club.

The Canadian has played in a variety of different countries already in his career thanks to his time with the Blues. They initially loaned him out to Scunthorpe – in League One at the time – who gave him 15 games where he scored once. He was then shipped off to Roda JC in the Netherlands and then Cercle Brugge in Belgium. There, he thrived, managing a total of 16 goals in 32 league games – or a strike every other game. That led to a permanent switch to Genk before he ended up in France.

Rangers managerMichael Beale

It now appears that Scotland may be the next team for the player to add to his list of clubs. That's because Rangers are keeping an eye on Ugbo according to The Scottish Sun, with boss Michael Beale familiar with the player thanks to his time with Chelsea.

The Scottish Premiership side may have to stump up £3.5m to bring him in but with the manager aware of the striker and his abilities and the club determined to add another forward option, it could be a fee they stump up. They will though, have to face Burnley in their efforts to secure his signature.

Who is Ike Ugbo?

The forward, known for his pace and someone who can dominate defenders, has become an international already since leaving Chelsea, with the player being capped eight times by Canada now.

Rangers then could be getting themselves a player who is familiar with different styles of play from his time spent in various different countries and a man who has proven in the past that he can bag plenty of goals.

Although unfamiliar with Scotland, if he were to be a regular with the side, then he may produce the goods in front of goal. This is backed up by the fact that he has netted 66 times in 166 games as a centre-forward, and if Beale signs and trusts Ugbo then, it could be a good addition for the club.

West Indies pick uncapped Alzarri Joseph

West Indies have added Alzarri Joseph, the 19-year-old fast bowler from Antigua, to their squad for the second Test against India, which begins in Jamaica on Saturday. The selectors have made no other changes to the squad, which now contains 14 players.Joseph has only played 12 matches at the senior level, including eight first-class matches in which he has taken 24 wickets at an average of 24.45 with two five-wicket hauls. He was, however, one of West Indies’ most impressive performers on their way to winning the Under-19 World Cup in February. He was the joint third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, grabbing 13 wickets at an average of 13.76, and also bowled its fastest ball, clocked at 143kph.The inclusion of Joseph gives West Indies another genuine pace option as they try to bounce back from an innings defeat in the first Test in Antigua. They began the series with a bowling attack that contained only one genuine quick in Shannon Gabriel, supported by two medium-pace-bowling allrounders in Jason Holder and Carlos Brathwaite and legspinner Devendra Bishoo. If West Indies look to play an extra fast bowler in Jamaica, they will have to choose between two players as yet uncapped in Test cricket in Joseph and the 25-year-old Barbados quick Miguel Cummins, who was part of the squad for the first Test but did not make the playing XI.

Leeds Could Lose £45k-A-Week Man Permanently

Leeds United centre-back Diego Llorente could join Roma permanently during the summer transfer window, according to a new update.

How has Llorente fared this season?

The Spaniard moved to the Serie A giants back in January, having been allowed to leave the Whites on a temporary basis by then-manager Jesse Marsch. The £45,000-a-week defender hasn't necessarily been a key man there, however, featuring in only eight league matches, with just five of those appearances being starts.

In Wednesday's Europa League final defeat to Sevilla on penalties, Llorente was only used as a substitute in extra-time, with Jose Mourinho clearly not seeing him as a key starter throughout the campaign. Despite this, he has still done a solid enough job when called upon, averaging 2.1 clearances and 1.3 interceptions per game.

The Leeds man isn't out of contract at Elland Road until the summer of 2026, but with the Whites now relegated to the Championship, it looks almost impossible that he will stay put.

Could Llorente join Roma permanently?

According to Corriere dello Sport [via Sport Witness], Roma are actually keen on the idea of making Llorente's move a permanent one, having seen enough positives from his loan spell. There is an €18m (£15.5m) buy clause in his temporary deal that can ne triggering, and the Giallorossi are considering it.

They will only sign the 29-year-old "under certain conditions", though, meaning they will likely not be willing to pay the aforementioned amount in the clause.

In truth, it is hard for Leeds to expect Llorente to stay at the club next season, considering they will be plying their trade in the second tier. Ideally, he could continue as a Whites player, but he is a 10-time capped Spain international, and he surely won't be without offers, even if Roma end up choosing not to sign him.

He has been hailed as "heroic" for Roma by BT Sport commentator Dave Farrar, following one huge tackle against Lazio in the Rome derby earlier this season, and he could be an effective permanent signing for them, providing experience and quality for a number of years to come.

Should Llorente suddenly decide to commit himself to Leeds and help them make a swift return to the Premier League, it would certainly make him adored among the fanbase, but it is hard to begrudge him a move away for good, especially at this point in his career.

Straight balls part of Craig's spin roster for India

Mark Craig has said he and the rest of the New Zealand spinners are trying to work on getting the ball to go straight as much as getting it to turn ahead of the three Test series against India in India

ESPNcricinfo staff14-Sep-20161:35

‘Key is to not try and reinvent the wheel’ – Craig

Overseas spinners coming to Indian shores might fantasise of the ball turning square, but not New Zealand’s Mark Craig.”The one that goes straight is probably just as invaluable as the ball that turns. I think over here, at times it can probably do too much, so the key is trying and find a way for the ball to slide on straight,” he said a week out from the first of three Tests in Kanpur.Craig is yet to play a first-class match in the country and has not played Test cricket in seven months after a beamer struck his hand while playing for his state side Otago. He has used his time away from the game to make technical changes, he said. All of them pertained to his bowling action, which a spinner relies on quite heavily.”I was getting pretty flat with the shoulders, trying to get my shoulders back to 45 [degrees, to be taller at the crease] when I load up,” Craig said. “Not getting too long in my delivery stride and just closing off with the feet. So just three things that I can always go back and look on now. And yeah, happy with the changes I’ve made.”His tweaks have come in the wake of two dismal series against Australia last season – seven innings, 137.2 overs and only 10 wickets.Craig said New Zealand have observed India’s spinners to gain insight on how to bowl in subcontinent conditions. R Ashwin was recently called the best in the world by his coach Anil Kumble, and Ravindra Jadeja picked up 10 wickets in a match in the final of the Duleep Trophy – the first-class tournament that kicked off India’s domestic calendar in 2016-17.”They’re probably different spinners to our boys, but they’re world class,” Craig said. “They tend to play around a little bit with, I suppose, undercutting the ball slightly so they get that ball to skid and one to grab. We’ve done a bit of work at watching how they bowl and at the same time we’ve got to do what we do.”New Zealand have three spinners in their squad. Craig bowls offspin, Ish Sodhi, legspin, and Mitchell Santner, left-arm spin. Craig understood that there would be a lot expected of them but was mindful of not allowing that pressure to push them into trying too much.”There’s a lot of expectation that falls on you [when] you go into spinning conditions, I think it’s key to not try and reinvent the wheel. Just keep doing what our boys have been doing and let the wicket do it for us.”Those boys have played [in India] a bit more than I have. So [I am] sitting next to them on the bus and talking shop so to speak, just about the paces to bowl and how the wickets generally are like and things like that. We’re always talking, pretty tight unit. The chance that a New Zealand side might play three spinners in a Test, if it goes ahead, is pretty exciting.”Craig hasn’t ignored his batting. He has three Test fifties and is known for an ability to hang around and frustrate bowlers. “Just trying to nurdle it,” he joked in response to a question on whether he’s tried to hit his team-mates for sixes. “Keep it on the ground mate, bat longer.”The New Zealanders play their first match of the tour, a three-day game against a Mumbai XI in Delhi, on Friday.

Tottenham: Simon Jordan Shares Harry Kane Update

TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has shared what he thinks about Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane's future after speaking with Daniel Levy.

Who could leave Spurs this summer?

The arrival of Ange Postecoglou at Spurs marks the dawn of a new era in north London, with Levy expressing his delight at the Australian's appointment.

“Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play," Levy told the club's official website."He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy – everything that is important to our Club. We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead."

It is also set to bring in sweeping changes as many Tottenham players have been tipped to leave this summer. Indeed, Hugo Lloris, Ivan Perisic, Davinson Sanchez, Ryan Sessegnon, Clement Lenglet, Eric Dier and Ben Davies could all potentially leave, with Spurs are also looking to offload Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks (The Telegraph).

Kane, who is apparently wanted by La Liga giants Real Madrid, is another name to have been linked with a move away, though his departure would be far more detrimental than the aforementioned names.

Harry Kane

Speaking to talkSPORT, though, Jordan says Spurs believe there is a good chance he could remain in north London – coming after a conversation the pundit had with Levy himself.

"I've always felt, because I've had a conversation with Daniel about it, that they believe there is a distinct possibility he'll stay."Of course, the background noise rumbling around it, other situations manifest themselves like Karim Benzema coming out of Real Madrid and interest being in Harry Kane stipulated by that departure."I think there's a distinct possibility he will stay, I just can't get my head around the idea that Daniel will allow him to stay for a year and let him go on a free."

Who is Harry Kane?

Scoring 30 league goals in 38 top flight games last season, Kane is a pivotal, all-important member of Postecoglou's squad and losing him would be an almighty blow.

However, we believe a transfer is unlikely this summer, especially considering Levy is reportedly set to demand a fee of around £100 million for him.

There are arguably few clubs who would be willing to pay a sum of that nature for a near-30-year-old going into the last 12 months of his contract.

However, if he doesn't pen fresh terms, Levy does face the possibility of losing his most valuable asset for nothing next year.
