Barot hits ton for Saurashtra; Gujarat keep pace for qualification

Things got tighter in a group which presents the possibility of a three-way tie

ESPNcricinfo staff25-Nov-2017Unbeaten half-centuries from Manprit Juneja and Rujul Bhatt steered defending champions and table-toppers Gujarat to 262 for 4 in a game they would like to win considering how tight things are in Group B. There is the possibility of a two-way tie, even a three-way tie. So to stay safe in such circumstances six points – or seven if they could manage it – could be vital.Jharkhand chose to bowl on home turf but ran into a very stubborn opening batsman in Samit Gohel, who faced 179 deliveries for his 64. Nevertheless, he struck eight fours and a six. His partner Priyank Panchal, who came into the game with back-to-back hundreds, fell for 33. Bhargav Merai (23) and Parthiv Patel (33) didn’t trouble the scorers too much either and when Gohel fell in the 61st over, Gujarat were 179 for 4. That’s when Juneja and Bhatt (who made 40 of his 51 runs in boundaries) came together to string a stand worth 83 runs in 22 overs.Their regular No. 3 was busy scoring a hundred for India so Avi Barot was left to play the innings Cheteshwar Pujara might have, batting almost the entire day to remain unbeaten on 128 as Saurashtra battled for qualification into the Ranji Trophy knockouts. He came to the crease in the 10th over and, with Robin Uthappa (59) and Sheldon Jackson (54*) for support, took the score to 286 for 3 against Rajasthan in Jaipur. With Saurashtra needing nothing short of a win – and even then they could find themselves out of the title – they could not afford a bad start. But the openers couldn’t get past 20 and it was down to the middle order to regain the upper hand. Uthappa struck 11 fours to bring up his third half-century in as many matches and when he fell, Jackson took over striking seven fours in a 93-ball innings. Left-arm seamer Tanvir-ul-Haq was Rajasthan’s most successful bowler, picking up 2 for 48 in 21 overs.Kerala’s Sandeep Warrier and Vinod Kumar took six wickets between them to reduce Haryana to 207 for 9 in Lahli. The two medium-pacers have kept their team alive in the race towards the quarter-finals, bowling 37 overs between them for only 90 runs. But they had to wrench the upper hand back from Haryana, who at one point were 94 for 1. Then they became 158 for 6 and finally ended the day clinging on to their last wicket. None of the hosts’ batsmen could make a score higher than Rajat Paliwal’s 45. He was dismissed in the penultimate over before stumps, and Kerala received a bigger boost when Warrier picked up a wicket with what became the last ball of the day to push his tally to 4 for 50.

Aston Villa: Emery doesn’t really fancy Matty Cash

Matty Cash has been a strong performer since joining Aston Villa back in 2020. But, Ryan Taylor of the Daily Express has told GIVEMESPORT as to why everything might not be as it seems with the fullback.

Is Matty Cash surplus to requirements?

On the surface, Matty Cash has been a consistent performer for Aston Villa. He arrived at Villa Park from Nottingham Forest and quickly made that right-back berth his own.

Unai Emery’s management has seemingly taken Villa to the next level though and this may leave Cash behind if reports are to be believed.

European football is now something which this team will have to contend with and with that comes an even more demanding schedule. Where Matty Cash is concerned, Ashley Young joining Everton means there are even more minutes available in his position which could be a blessing and a curse. It is a blessing in that he himself can step up even more whilst as a curse, it could see Villa dip into the transfer market once again.

Sporting director Monchi arrived from Spanish football, as of course did manager Emery so the pair tend to shop in a market which they are very familiar with.

This aligns with a report from Estadio Deportivo that suggests that Monchi could make matters worse for Sevilla and swoop in for Gonzalo Montiel.

What has Ryan Taylor got to say in his update?

“They’re looking at full-backs in general. Konsa has been playing at right-back a little bit. Cash doesn't seem to be 100% fancied by Emery. He's probably the first choice, but I don't think Emery is sold on him.

“At left-back, they’ve got Alex Moreno, who was excellent at points last year. And there is a chance Lucas Digne could leave for Saudi Arabia, so again, the full-back areas are where they're looking at.

“I don't know of any concrete ties from what I've seen. There are a few in Spain that they've been looking at. Monchi is now the sporting director, so I suspect those are targets backed by him.”

The Monchi effect

Monchi is a world-renowned sporting director and his arrival in Birmingham was a real coup.

Links to Montiel make perfect sense when you consider Monchi’s track record and he wouldn’t be the only arrival from La Liga in this window.

Europa League winning centre-back Pau Torres made the move to Villa Park from Villarreal and is set to strengthen that area in the defence alongside Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa and Diego Carlos, the latter who is also formerly of the Spanish top-flight.

Monchi is known for his contributions to the sport off of the field more so than his time with Sevilla on the field in the late 1990s. As previously mentioned, he played a huge part for that same club as a member of the hierarchy and he discovered a number of big names, including Jesus Navas, Sergio Ramos and the late Jose Antonio Reyes.

He also left a mark in Serie A with A.S. Roma before making his way to England with a return to Seville in between.

Leeds Now Turn Attention To "Unbelievable" £6.5k-p/w Star

Leeds United have now turned their attention towards signing Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer, with Daniel Farke targeting a new midfielder in the final month of the transfer window, according to a report from Football Insider.

What's the latest Leeds transfer news?

The future of Leeds midfielder Tyler Adams remains up in the air, and it has recently been reported that Glen Kamara could be brought in to replace him, with the Rangers ace believed to have a £5m release clause included in his contract.

Farke is expecting to sell Crysencio Summerville and WIlfried Gnonto before the window shuts, so the manager may also be tasked with bringing in a couple of new wingers this summer, and Napoli's Hirving Lozano could be brought in as a replacement.

The Whites have reportedly approached the entourage of the winger, but there may be stiff competition for his signature, with Everton and Stoke City also being named as potential suitors.

Strengthening the midfield is seemingly one of Farke's main priorities this summer, with Football Insider reporting Leeds have now turned their attention towards signing Hamer, after his great form for play-off finalists Coventry last season.

After their relegation to the Championship, the Whites are in the market for a new midfielder, and the Coventry star is set to be targeted in the final month of the transfer window, with his future at the Ricoh Arena in doubt.

The £6.5k-per-week maestro is entering the final year of his contract with the Sky Blues, which has put potential suitors on red alert, particularly because talks to extend his deal are stalling.

Talks have been held over a new contract, but an agreement is still some way away, potentially opening the door for a move to Elland Road this summer.

How good is Gustavo Hamer?

The 26-year-old was undoubtedly Coventry's key player en route to the play-off final at Wembley last season, averaging a Sofascore match rating of 7.35, by far the highest figure of any player in the squad.

In a total of 44 games last season, the Dutchman picked up 11 goals and ten assists, scoring two in the Sky Blues' play-off run, though they were ultimately unable to return to the Premier League.

A move to recently relegated Leeds could give the Brazil-born midfielder a better chance of reaching the top flight, and there are plenty of indications he could be a fantastic signing, having been hailed as "unbelievable" by former teammate Marko Marosi.

Coventry midfielder Gustavo Hamer.

Over the past year, the former Feyenoord man ranks in the 83rd percentile for successful take-ons per 90, when compared to players at a similar level, showcasing his dribbling ability, while he is also solid defensively, placing in the 87th percentile for tackles.

If Adams does move on this summer, it is vital that Leeds bring in a player of a similar level, and the central midfielder has proven himself as one of the Championship's top players with his performances in recent times.

At the moment, the Whites are yet to launch an official bid for Hamer, but they should definitely step up their interest in the near future to ensure he does not end up moving elsewhere.

Northants miss out on promotion and rue Trent Bridge go-slow

If they had avoided a five-point deduction for a slow overrate at Trent Bridge, Northants would have pipped Notts for promotion. As it was their final victory had a bittersweet taste

Press Association28-Sep-20172:24

Championship round-up: Somerset stay up, but despair for Middlesex

Northamptonshire’s ninth victory of the season, completed with some ease in benign batting conditions at Grace Road, had a bitter-sweet element for the men from Wantage Road.Events at Hove, where Nottinghamshire needed only to draw with Sussex to confirm they would take the second promotion place from Division Two, meant that Northamptonshire finish the season third – and it will be little consolation that no team has made more of its’ collective ability.Northants were left to particularly rue the five-point deduction suffered after defeat at Trent Bridge in late August for a slow over-rate. It was a tough time for Northants in the field as they suffered several injuries, including that of the captain Wakely, with Rory Kleinveldt taking over, and to bowl in stifling conditions on the hottest spell of the season.Without that penalty, however, Northants would have finished level on points with Notts – and ahead of them on wins.As for Leicestershire, they were consigned to a winless season.Northants head coach David Ripley said: “We’ve really played well through the back end of the season, in some adversity, including in this game with losing Rory Kleinveldt.”It is frustrating that nine wins isn’t enough, especially with the points deducted in Nottingham – we deserved the deduction, but the circumstances were extraordinary.”The bowlers did a remarkable job, Richard Gleeson at the end of the season has been outstanding, Ben Sanderson has been Mr Consistency, and Rory Kleinveldt has taken 50 wickets – winning games is about taking 20 wickets, and more often than not we’ve done that.”We’ve got some good players, and they’ve all contributed, but of there’s an area we’re looking to improve it’s in the batting and turning good scores into big, match-winning scores. We’re talking to Luke Procter – we need to recruit someone who can challenge our batters for a spot, and him coming in would do that.”Alex Wakely’s Northants side came so close•Getty ImagesPerhaps in sympathy, the conditions were very much in favour of the visitors, as has been the case throughout this game. Batting has been at its most difficult in the first hour or so of the morning, when the ball has swung and seamed, so the fact a saturated outfield outfield prevented play starting until 12.40pm was ideal for Northants, who began the day needing another 180 to win with ten second innings wickets in hand.By the time play began, a bright sun had taken any menace out of the atmosphere and indeed the pitch. Northants did lose Rob Newton, the opener pushing lazily at a wide delivery from left-arm seamer Dieter Klein to edge a catch behind, but Procter and Wakely added 121 for the second wicket in good time and – an early possible run-out of Wakely aside – without real alarm before Wakely top-edged a pull and was well caught by Sam Evans at deep backward square. Two more wickets fell after the break, Richard Levi palpably leg before swishing across the line at Callum Parkinson – the young left-armer very much one of Leicestershire’s few positives this season – and Procter, with a hundred very much on the cards, also leg before to a Raine delivery that kept a little low.Procter, on loan from Lancashire, had a fine match at the top of the order, dismissed only once in making 176 runs.

Arsenal In Negotiations To Sign "Unique" Player For £8.5m

Arsenal are in ongoing negotiations regarding a summer deal to bring Gremio star Bitello to the Premier League, according to fresh reports.

Who is Bitello?

Bitello is primarily a central midfielder and academy graduate of Renato Gaucho’s side, having worked his way up through the various youth ranks to become a regular feature of the first team, having made 86 appearances across all age levels to date.

The Brazilian still has another two years remaining on his contract in his homeland, but having established himself as his club’s fourth-best performer so far this season, as per WhoScored, his impressive displays have grabbed the attention of Mikel Arteta in N5.

Read The Latest Arsenal Transfer News HERE…

Earlier this month, South American outlet Correio Do Povo reported that the Gunners had sent officials to assess the 23-year-old live in action, and the scouts must have liked what they saw from their overseas trip, as the interest has started to develop.

Soon after, Brazilian outlet UOL claimed that Edu had made personal contact with his target after being individually wowed by his high standard of talent, and if the following update is to be believed, there’s a decent chance that he could be on his way to the Emirates Stadium.

Are Arsenal signing Bitello?

According to 90min, Arsenal are “continuing to work” on a deal to recruit Bitello this summer and are “confident” that they will successfully be able to secure his services.

Arteta’s outfit and Gremio are in “ongoing” discussions for the central talisman, whose price tag is £8.5m, and the player is “eager to move continents”.

The Gunners are also “confident they are at the head of the queue” for the exciting prospect, though it’s worth noting that Monaco, Porto and Zenit St Petersburg have also all held “conversations” over a switch this window, so the Gunners will need to act fast should they want to beat their stiff competition in the race for Bitello.

Bitello

How good is Bitello?

Whilst Bitello is 23 years of age, Arsenal will be aware that he hasn’t had any exposure playing at the highest level outside of Brazil, so he could be more of an ideal signing for the long-term future of the club, but nonetheless, the “unique” central midfielder, as lauded by data analyst Ben Mattinson, has bags of potential to offer to his next club.

The Karan Sports client has clocked up 11 goal contributions (seven goals and four assists) in 36 outings across all competitions so far this season, not to mention 56 shot-creating actions in the Brazilian Serie A, which is currently higher than any of his fellow teammates, as per FBref, showing just how much he stands out compared to his peers.

Gremio’s youth product, who is sponsored by Adidas, is also a versatile operator having been deployed in six different positions since first bursting onto the scene, including four roles in the midfield, out wide on the right flank and even as a second striker, making him a great option for the manager to have at his disposal should any unexpected injuries occur.

Now it is just a case of Arteta and Edu winning the race for his signature to see him strut his stuff at the Emirates Stadium.

Ronchi, Ackermann keep Leicestershire in quarter-final hunt

Leicestershire completed a second win in two days to put themselves firmly back in the hunt for quarter-final qualification, beating Yorkshire by four wickets with two balls remaining

ECB Reporters Network12-Aug-2017Luke Ronchi hit a rapid half-century to put Leicestershire on their way•Getty ImagesLeicestershire completed a second win in two days to put themselves firmly back in the hunt for quarter-final qualification, beating Yorkshire by four wickets with two balls remaining.A spectacular half-century from New Zealand international Luke Ronchi, hit off just 19 balls and including seven fours and three sixes, set the Foxes on their way, and although they lost wickets regularly in an increasingly nervy reply, Colin Ackermann’s unbeaten 58, made off 47 balls, saw them cross the line in the final over.”The batting was outstanding. Luke Ronchi has been unbelievable for us, and although Ackermann has had a bit of a lean patch over the last few games, he showed what a class player he is,” Leicestershire’s captain, Clint McKay, said.”I think the bowlers fought back well towards the end, though I was a bit disappointed with how we went about our work in the field earlier in their innings, we weren’t at our best. But the boys keep bouncing back, and to keep it to 182 when it looked like they were going to get over 200 was a great effort.”Remarkably, it was their first victory at home in the competition this season, with their previous five wins all coming away from the Fischer County Ground. Their two remaining fixtures see them face Derbyshire at home next Thursday, before they travel to Trent Bridge to play Nottinghamshire the following evening.Yorkshire, who arrived with their spirits – and chances of qualification – lifted by beating Roses rivals Lancashire at Headingley the previous evening, must now beat Northants at home on Thursday, their final group fixture, to have any chance of qualifying.Yorkshire’s total was based on an explosive 75 from Tom Kohler-Cadmore, the right-hander’s best T20 score since joining Yorkshire from Worcestershire, made from just 40 balls.Placement and timing was the key, particularly through the off side, in a 30-ball half-century which included ten fours. Two maximums followed, muscled through wide midwicket off Callum Parkinson, but the young left-arm spinner had his revenge when he deceived and bowled Kohler-Cadmore in the last of his four overs, his 14th wicket in the competition this season.Their other major contribution was made by Shaun Marsh, whose half-century came seven balls more slowly, with four of his seven boundaries cut behind square on the off side. Having been 129 for 3 off 14 overs, a total of 200 looked well within their capabilities, but tight Foxes bowling, notably from Matt Pillans, and an unexpectedly effective four overs from occasional offspinner Aadil Ali, took some of the pressure off the Leicestershire batsmen.Ronchi’s wonderfully clean hitting reduced it further – the highlight an uppercut six high over third man off David Willey – and although he slog-swept Azeem Rafiq to into the hands of Jack Leaning on 57, Ackermann’s sensible innings ensured Leicestershire got over the line.Yorkshire coach Andrew Gale: “It was a real blow to lose this match. I felt on this occasion it was our bowlers who didn’t perform as well as they should, we bowled too many four balls. We knew Ronchi was the danger man, and he duly got them off to an explosive start. I was actually pretty pleased with our score, but giving away too many boundaries cost us dearly.”We’ve played some good cricket in the competition but we’ve not put it together in both disciplines consistently enough.”

Fulham: Sky Sports reporter drops big Salisu & Bassey update

Fulham have agreed a "deal in principle" for Ajax defender Calvin Bassey, according to journalist Dharmesh Sheth.

The former Rangers defender is set to undergo a medical before his move to Craven Cottage is finalised.

How old is Calvin Bassey?

The 23-year-old is set to depart Dutch side Ajax after just one campaign in Amsterdam.

Despite originally wanting to stay with the club and fight for his place next season, the versatile defender was told by new Ajax manager Maurice Steijn that he is not a part of the clubs plan for next season, so should consider finding himself a new club, with the head coach stating in an interview: "I told Calvin Bassey it would be better to leave Ajax. Also because of the money. When he leaves, we can strengthen the squad properly. I have told him this honestly. He had a really tough year last season. Everyone gets a second chance and if he does better than someone else, he will play. But the chances are, especially if we are going to get a new left-back or left-centre defender, that he will not play."

The Nigerian international joined the European heavyweights last summer in a deal reportedly worth just under £23m, however, it looks like Ajax are set to make a loss of around £5m to get the defender off their books this summer.

Bassey attracted interest from both Brighton and Hove Albion as well as Fulham this window, however, the Seagulls turned their attention towards Fiorentina central defender Igor Julio, leaving the cottagers with a free run at the Nigerian. Following an opening bid of £15m that was rejected by the Dutch giants, both sides have now reportedly agreed a deal for £18.2m to bring the former Rangers man to Craven Cottage.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Sheth revealed that the deal has been agreed in principle, and should be confirmed "sooner rather than later", whilst a deal for Southampton defender Mohamed Salisu is also close: "Two deals that look close involve Calvin Bassey and Mohammed Salisu, with one closer than the other. That is Bassey, from Ajax, and it's worth around £18million. That one is agreed in principle and, like Jimenez, we expect him to have a medical at some point this week. The deal should be done and dusted sooner rather than later as well."

What defenders are Fulham signing?

It is set to be a big summer overhaul in Fulham's defence this window.

As Sheth stated, the Cottagers are also closing in on a deal for Southampton defender Salisu, with reports stating that a deal worth £15m has been agreed with the Saints for the Ghanaian international who suffered relegation from the Premier League last season. The defender who has entered the final year of his deal at St Mary's has also attracted the interest of Everton and AS Monaco, who reportedly had two bids rejected for the defender earlier in the window.

tosin-adarabioyo-tottenham-transfer-news-premier-league

Fulham are set to have some outgoings in the defensive department this window as well, with Tosin Adarabioyo attracting a lot of interest as he moves into the final year of his deal at Craven Cottage. Monaco are interested in the former Manchester City player after failing in their pursuit of Salisu, and Tottenham Hotspur are also expected to make a bid for the 25-year-old, with reports stating the defender could be available for as little as £13m.

One defender who will not be leaving this summer is left-back Antonee Robinson. The USA international was reportedly a target of a number of big clubs around Europe, namely AC Milan and Man City, however, the defender signed a new long-term contract at the club earlier this window, which keeps him in London until 2028.

Starc out, Faulkner and Christian in for India series

Also, Tim Paine was preferred as wicketkeeper in the T20 side ahead of Matthew Wade for the tour that will run from September 17 to October 13

ESPNcricinfo staff18-Aug-2017Mitchell Starc will miss Australia’s limited-overs tour of India due to a slower-than-expected recovery from an injury to his right foot.Australia’s selectors have named a 14-man ODI squad and a 13-man T20 group for the tour, with the uncapped Hilton Cartwright in line for a one-day debut and fast bowler Jason Behrendorff a chance of making his Australia debut in T20s.Notably, Tim Paine was preferred as wicketkeeper in the T20 side ahead of Matthew Wade, while there was also a T20 recall for allrounder Daniel Christian, who last played for Australia in 2014.Fellow allrounder James Faulkner has returned to the ODI squad, along with spin-bowling allrounder Ashton Agar, and fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile, who is returning from a back injury.”Nathan brings raw pace to the side with good variation,” national selector Trevor Hohns said. “It is great to see him back from injury and we are hopeful he will have a big impact in this series.”James Faulkner is a solid one-day campaigner and is very familiar with subcontinent conditions, coming off a very good tour of Sri Lanka last year. We hope that he will take his chance in returning to the one-day side. Hilton is an aggressive striker of the ball and we think his game will be well suited to the transition to short-form cricket.”National T20 selector Mark Waugh said: “The overall standards being set in the BBL and also the IPL are very high and the players selected have impressed in these tournaments. Jason [Behrendorff] has been a stand-out performer for the Scorchers for a number of seasons and deserves his chance at this level.”Dan [Christian] is a very experienced allrounder who can be a very dangerous batsman. He had a solid IPL season this year and we believe his bowling will be well suited to the conditions we will face in India. Tim Paine has been called-up following his successful home T20 international and Big Bash campaigns.”Paine made his international return in February this year, playing a series of home T20s against Sri Lanka while the Test squad was already in India, and these marked his first international games for nearly six years.Starc suffered stress fractures of the foot during Australia’s Test tour of India earlier this year, and upon returning from the Champions Trophy in England it was discovered they had not fully healed. He was left out of Australia’s Test squad to tour Bangladesh, with the intention of being fit for the series in India, but Australia are now targeting the Ashes for his international return.”Mitchell Starc has been excluded from the two squads as he continues his return from a right foot injury,” team physio David Beakley said. “We have recently reviewed the progress of Mitchell’s right foot injury and the healing process has been slower than we would have liked.”Consequently, in order to ensure his best possible preparation for the Ashes, he will be unavailable for the tour of India and will continue his rehab in Australia with an aim to have him play for New South Wales in the domestic one-day cup.”The tour of India will take place between September 17 and October 13.ODI squad: Steven Smith (capt), David Warner, Ashton Agar, Hilton Cartwright, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Patrick Cummins, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade (wk), Adam ZampaT20 squad: Steven Smith (capt), David Warner (vice-capt), Jason Behrendorff, Dan Christian, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Patrick Cummins, Aaron Finch, Travis Head, Moises Henriques, Glenn Maxwell, Tim Paine (wk), Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa

Sky Sports Reporter Gives Update On Harry Maguire

West Ham United have an "interest" in former Manchester United captain and England international Harry Maguire, but wages could be an issue, claims Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Is Harry Maguire joining West Ham United this summer?

It has been a busy summer in east London so far, not due to any incomings, mind you, but due to the intense and protracted negotiations over the sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal, which has earned West Ham a tidy £105m.

Unsurprisingly, it looks like the club will be putting that influx of cash to use immediately this summer, with a swathe of players being touted for a move to the East End.

A lot of the names linked with a move to the London Stadium at the moment are midfielders, for fairly obvious reasons, with Fulham's Joao Palhinha, Ajax's Edson Alvarez and Southampton's talismanic captain James Ward-Prowse all players the Irons are interested in.

However, with the club leaking 55 goals in the league last year and finishing just six points above the relegation zone, several defenders have also been linked with a move to the Irons – the most recent being United centre-back Maguire.

Harry-Maguire-in-action-for-Manchester-United

According to The Guardian, the Red Devils are open to offers for their £80m man after Erik ten Hag informed his defender that he wasn't a part of his plans, something made abundantly clear by the removal of the captaincy earlier this week.

The Hammers have emerged as one of the teams interested in rescuing the former Leicester City man from his unfortunate situation at Old Trafford this summer, but 'see little value' in paying a transfer fee for the 30-year-old and are equally concerned over his significant pay packet, as per Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

He explained the situation live on Sky Sports News, saying:

"They're looking to strengthen in defence. We mentioned Harry Maguire already. There is an interest in Harry Maguire, they're exploring a loan, they're exploring a permanent deal as well. Wages, though, could prove to be an issue."

How much does Harry Maguire earn?

The former Foxes star earns a seriously hefty pay packet, even for a player at Manchester United.

According to Spotrac, the former captain sits comfortably within the club's top ten earners, occupying the number seven spot and taking home a tidy £189,904 a week – or £9,875,000 a year.

It's easy to understand why these wages would be deemed a problem for the Hammers, especially if they opted for just a loan, as their highest earner is Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta, who earns £150,000 a week at the London Stadium.

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.

The Irons' best-paid defender is Kurt Zouma, who takes home a weekly wage of £120,000, which is probably what Maguire can expect to be paid should he make the move down to the capital.

While it's obviously a massive pay cut, it might give the 6 foot 4 titan the fresh start and playing time he needs to get back to his "fantastic" best and move on from his underwhelming spell at the Theatre of Dreams.
