ScorecardBaluchistan put up a much stronger batting show in their second innings compared to the first, but given the huge lead Sind had secured, they found themselves only marginally ahead with five wickets standing and two days to go.Zain Abbas, Saeed Anwar jnr, and Imranullah Aslam made half-centuries as Baluchistan scored at a healthy rate, but left-arm seamer Sohail Khan struck thrice to ensure the advantage remained firmly with Sind. While Abbas fell ten short of his century, Imranullah cracked ten fours in his 59 off 51 deliveries and stands in the way of Sind and the title. Earlier in the day, Sarfraz Ahmed (71) took Sind past 500 before Abdur Rauf took the last two wickets for his 46th first-class five-wicket haul.

Jimmy Adams' fifty guides Hampshire to victory

ScorecardJimmy Adams, the highest run-maker in the Friends Provident t20, took his aggregate to 551 as Hampshire coasted to a six-wicket victory over Middlesex at Uxbridge which boosts their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals.Owais Shah hit 80 off only 52 balls with five sixes and five fours for Middlesex, but he got scant support and Hampshire were always on course for a target of 165 once some sloppy fielding had helped Adams and Michael Carberry put on 89 in 10 overs for the first wicket.Carberry, badly dropped at backward square leg off Gareth Berg when he had made 13, scored 41 off 28 balls with two sixes and four fours before he cut Shah’s first ball to backward point and Adams, put down at short third man off Neil Dexter on 45, had made 64 off 44 balls with 10 fours when he hoisted Berg to long on.Hampshire stumbled briefly when James Vince sliced Berg to short extra cover and Abdul Razzaq ran himself out but Sean Ervine and Neil McKenzie saw them home with nine balls to spare. The conditions were made for high scoring with the pitch flat and the parched outfield fast and bumpy but Middlesex made a sluggish start after wining the toss. Dexter was caught at extra cover off Chris Wood in the second over, David Warner struggled to 18 off 17 balls before pushing Dan Christian to mid-off and Dawid Malan soon pulled Ervine to deep square leg.Scott Newman then fell leg before to Dominic Cork, Berg lifted Danny Briggs to mid-wicket and Tyron Henderson drove an Ervine full toss to long off to leave Middlesex struggling at 105 for six in the 16th over before their innings gathered any real momentum.Shah cut loose in the next over, reaching his 50 off 39 balls with two sixes and five fours and going on to make another 30 off only 13 balls, with three more sixes before holing out to long off trying to hit Wood for another six off the last ball of the innings.Ben Scott, who has returned to Middlesex after a loan spell with Worcestershire, joined him in a partnership of 59 – a record for Middlesex’s seventh wicket in this competition – in only four overs but a total of 164 for 7 was never going to be enough.

Wolves ‘would love to have’ Riqui Puig

Wolves could sign Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig if he is made available in the January transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Lowdown: Puig linked with Wolves move

The 22-year-old has emerged as an exciting prospect at the La Liga club, even being compared to legendary former Spain midfielder Andres Iniesta.

Puig has struggled for playing time at the Camp Nou this season, though, managing just one solitary start in La Liga and getting a mere 17 minutes of Champions League action.

The youngster has been linked with a move to Wolves, and with his current Barca deal expiring in 2023, the Catalan giants may be happy to see him leave this month.

The Latest: Wolves ‘would love’ to sign Puig

O’Rourke believes that a move to Molineux isn’t out of the question for Puig, telling GiveMeSport that he could see it coming to fruition before January is over.

The journalist said: “Riqui Puig is a talented young player at Barcelona and I’m sure Wolves would love to have him at Molineux if he is available.”

The Verdict: Unlikely but possible?

There don’t appear to be strong enough links to suggest that Puig is a nailed-on target for Wolves in January, but he could certainly be an exciting proposition if they were to move for him.

His aforementioned Iniesta comparisons speak volumes about his ability, and while he hasn’t featured much of late, he still has 51 appearances to his name for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

His youth and guile could be an ideal addition to Bruno Lage’s midfield – he has an incredible 93.9% pass completion rate in La Liga this season – with the Wolves boss potentially seeing him as a long-term replacement for 35-year-old Joao Moutinho.

In other news, one rumoured Wolves target has been linked with another Premier League team. Find out who it is here.

Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsTim Bresnan kept his cool to deliver a series win for England•AFPThe finale was clumsy and ungainly, and it came as scant consolation for the wider sporting public on a day when the nation’s footballers were soundly thrashed by their own arch-enemies, Germany, but England’s cricketers somehow held their nerve to wrap up an unassailable 3-0 lead with two matches to come in their ODI series against Australia. After Graeme Swann’s 4 for 37 had limited the Aussies to an eminently gettable 212, England had at one stage been coasting to victory on 185 for 3 with eight-and-a-half overs in hand, but a sensational collapse of six wickets for 18 in 38 balls meant their victory bunting had been somewhat frayed around the edges by the time Tim Bresnan slashed two desperate boundaries in the space of three deliveries to seal a one-wicket victory with five balls to spare. The catalyst for the collapse was the dismissal of Eoin Morgan, England’s star finisher from the first two games at the Rose Bowl and Cardiff. He had joined forces with his captain, Andrew Strauss, to take England to the brink of a thumping victory when he swatted a tame pull to midwicket off Steven Smith to give Australia a sniff of an opening. Seven balls later, and with his fourth ODI century there for the taking, Strauss edged Ryan Harris with 24 still needed from 44 balls, whereupon Luke Wright hoisted Smith to long-off for a third-ball duck. With Shaun Tait, Australia’s Twenty20 shock-jock, still lurking, England now knew they were in for a torrid finale. Playing in his first ODI since February 2009, and touching 95mph in five searing two-over spells, Tait had commanded instant respect from his opponents by yorking Craig Kieswetter for a first-ball duck, before returning in the 13th over to extract Kevin Pietersen via a sharp caught-and-bowled. His last hurrah yielded the wicket of Michael Yardy, who flashed a loose edge to the keeper, and at 197 for 7, the innings was officially on the ropes.Graeme Swann scratched around for 1 from 10 balls before Doug Bollinger plucked out his off stump with 10 runs still needed from 17 balls, and an Old Trafford crowd that had been finding some solace in the exploits of their cricketers had been stunned into total silence. With the ball reverse-swinging and Bollinger bowling with immaculate discipline, he restricted Stuart Broad to four dot balls in a row before swinging the last ball of his spell, a perfect yorker, through his defences to complete figures for 3 for 20 in 10 overs. Bresnan, however, kept his cool even as the asking rate dipped to a run a ball, and picked the right deliveries – a hint of width from Harris and Hopes respectively – to mow the winning boundaries through the off side.England’s tension is relived as the winning runs secure them the series•Getty ImagesTheir fumbling finale notwithstanding, it was another impressive effort from England, for whom victory over Australia can never be taken lightly. After winning the toss and bucking convention by bowling first on a baking hot day, the key aspect of the triumph was the speed with which they adjusted their gameplan in the field. With the exception of James Anderson, who wrapped up the tail for figures of 3 for 22, England’s seamers had an off-day, with Bresnan proving especially hittable on a pacy surface. But the slow-bowling contingent was on hand to bail the side out. Swann, Yardy and the rarely-used Paul Collingwood produced combined figures of 6 for 103 in 25 overs, and it was that intervention that crushed Australia’s bid for momentum in the middle part of their innings.Paine, who made 44 from 48 balls, had kickstarted Australia’s innings with four fours in six balls off Bresnan, while Luke Wright’s solitary over was dispatched for 14 by Watson, including a mown six over midwicket and a firm clip through the leg-side. But Yardy’s introduction in the 14th over paid dividends from his third delivery, as Paine was beaten by the angle and nailed plumb in front of middle stump. Then, two balls after the drinks break, Ricky Ponting was suckered by a ripping delivery from Swann that turned way down the leg-side and was expertly gathered by Craig Kieswetter, who whipped off the bails to send Australia’s captain on his way for 3 from 18 balls.Watson duly completed his second half-century in consecutive innings, but not for the first time in his career, he was unable to convert his start. On 61 from 76 balls, he attempted a sweep at Swann but failed to take his extra bounce into account, and Strauss at square leg clung onto a dollied top-edge. The same combination then accounted for Cameron White eight overs later – but this time it required a sharp piece of work from Strauss who stooped low to his left to snaffle a full-blooded sweep. The off-colour Michael Clarke nibbled along to 33 from 54 balls before hoisting Swann to wide mid-off, before Collingwood’s offcutters bowled Hussey, via a faint inside-edge, for a run-a-ball 21. At 183 for 6, Strauss then returned to his seamers to apply the coup de grace: James Hopes wafted a slow bouncer from Anderson onto his stumps for 7, before Ryan Harris spliced an attempted pull off Broad to Strauss at midwicket, who completed his third catch of the innings. Steven Smith was then pinned lbw on the back heel by Anderson for 20, who wrapped up excellent figures of 3 for 22 in eight overs by yorking Bollinger in the same over.Until the twist in the tale, the second half of the match belonged to Strauss, who boxed himself off from the cheers and groans from the football-watchers in the hospitality suites to produce the sort of innings which not only justifies his retention as England’s 50-overs captain but entirely quashes the debate about his role. He made 87 from 121 balls to break the back of the run-chase in the unflappable manner that he brings to all of his best performances, and while he was unable to see the innings to its conclusion, he wasn’t alone in that. If England were in danger of getting complacent about their current run of success, this was just the sort of scare to bring their one-day challenge back into full focus.

Kaneria leads Habib Bank to big win

A round-up of the third day of the second round of matches in Division 1 of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy

ESPNcricinfo staff01-Nov-2010Habib Bank Limited’s bowlers ran through Multan for the second time in the match to bowl their side to an innings-and-167-run win at the Multan Cricket Stadium on the third day. Multan began the day needing 289 runs to make Habib Bank bat again, after they declared on their overnight score of 429 for 7. The fast-bowling trio of Shahid Nazir, Sarmad Anwar and Kamran Hussain scythed through the Multan top and middle order to leave them reeling. Only opener Zaka-ur-Rasheed resisted with 41, but he fell to Danish Kaneria, who then mopped up the lower order as Multan collapsed to be dismissed for 122. Kaneria finished with 4 for 41, giving him ten wickets in the match, and also taking him past 900 first-class victims. He has taken 18 wickets from two games in the tournament so far.Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited face an uphill task against Karachi Blues at the United Bank Limited Sports Complex in Karachi. They need another 349 runs for victory or to bat through the last day to ensure a draw. Led by Rameez Raja’s 81, Karachi made 289 in their second innings after taking a first-innings lead of 77. Left-arm spinner Imran Khalid was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5 for 57. SNGPL lost opener Naeemuddin to the last ball of the day with 17 runs on the board.Sialkot ended day three of their match against Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot on 31 for 1 chasing 354. ZTBL declared their second innings on 254 for 8, with Yasir Hameed cruelly run out five runs short of a century. Hameed’s innings came off just 106 balls, and included 15 fours and a six. He was supported by Inam-ul-Haq, who remained unbeaten on 52, but no one else went past 40. Sialkot lost Adnan Zaheer, trapped lbw by Pakistan medium Sohail Tanvir, without scoring before Tariq Mahmood and Majid Jehangir shepherded the side through to the close of play.Islamabad closed the third day of their game against Pakistan International Airlines at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad on 228 for 7, giving them a lead of 217 runs. Anoop Santosh’s unbeaten 52 helped PIA take a slender 11-run lead. Nasrullah Khan was the most successful bowler, taking 6 for 71 from 24.4 overs. In their second innings, Islamabad had lost their openers with only eight runs on the board wen Ameer Khan and Zeeshan Mushtaq came together to add 102 for the third wicket. Zeeshan had raced to 97 from 101 balls when he was caught by Shoaib Khan off the bowling of Ali Imran, who ended the day with four wickets.Wicketkeeper Ahmed Said’s unbeaten century enabled Water and Power Development Authority to take a 107-run first innings lead over Faisalabad, and two late wickets ensured their domination was complete on the third day at the Sports Stadium in Sargodha. WAPDA began the day needing 48 runs to take the lead with four wickets remaining. Said first ensured they did so in a 77-run partnership with fast bowler Umaid Asif. After Umaid’s dismissal for 39, the lower order stayed long enough with Said to stretch the lead beyond 100. Said remained unbeaten on 113. Hasan Mahmood, the 19-year old left-arm spinner, took his maiden five-wicket haul, bowling 50.2 overs to take 6 for 123. Faisalabad began well but Umaid struck late to leave them in trouble at 90 for 3.National Bank of Pakistan tightened their grip on the third day against Rawalpindi, who lost four wickets for 95 chasing an improbable 432 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Earlier, Kamran Akmal, resuming on 58, carried on after Umar Amin fell for 132, smashing 11 fours and a six in his 103 off 127 deliveries. He was supported well by the lower order before National Bank were dismissed for 374, an overall lead of 431. Sadaf Hussain, the Rawalpindi left-arm medium-pacer, finished with 5 for 82. Mohammad Talha, the fast bowler who debuted for Pakistan in the ill-fated Lahore Test against Sri Lanka last year, then had Rawalpindi fighting to save the match with a three-wicket burst.

Southampton: Saints trio up for sale

Southampton could be set to offload as many as six first-team players in the summer transfer window according to journalist Tom Barclay, who was talking to GiveMeSport.

The lowdown: Overhaul incoming

Saints’ boss Ralph Hasenhuttl looks set to oversee a hectic summer at St Mary’s with six senior stars all out of contract at the end of the season (Transfermarkt).

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/southampton-newest-updates/” title=”Southampton newest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

On-loan striker Armando Broja also seems likely to head back to parent club Chelsea, as things stand, whilst it remains to be seen whether the south coast club will have money to spend following a takeover in January.

Now as the end of the 2021/22 campaign looms and another season in the Premier League beckons, three first-team regulars could already be on the transfer list…

The latest: Barclay predicts exodus

Talking to GMS, Barclay suggested that chief executive Martin Semmens could sanction a raft of high-profile departures this summer with Theo Walcott, Moussa Djenepo and Nathan Redmond already tipped with moves away.

He stated: “I don’t know if they’d sell all of them. It depends on the offers.

“From what I’ve heard, they are open to offers on those three. There could be quite a few who leave Southampton. There could be five or six, so we’ll see.”

The verdict: Fresh faces needed

Having already secured top-flight football for another season the Saints are once again on the proverbial beach heading into what is ordinarily the business end of the campaign.

Whilst steering clear of the threat of relegation could be seen as mission accomplished, for the new owners and indeed Hasenhuttl, there is likely to be a strive for more success over the coming seasons.

Walcott, Djnepo and Redmond have managed a combined 41 Premier League outings so far this term (WhoScored), and as three attacking players would suggest that Semmens may already have set about what area of the squad is in particular need of strengthening.

Allowing the aforementioned trio to leave would not only free up the wage bill but also bring important funds into the club and may therefore be seen as a relatively small risk worth taking given the success of recent Hasenhuttl purchases such as Mohammed Salisu, Kyle Walker-Peters and Che Adams.

Northants receive clearance for Sehwag

Northamptonshire have received a No Objection Certificate for Virender Sehwag from the BCCI

Cricinfo staff25-Mar-2010Northamptonshire have received a No Objection Certificate for Virender Sehwag from the BCCI, but his arrival for the Twenty20 in June is still dependent on whether he is selected for India’s one-day commitments in Zimbabwe. There is a thought that India will send a second-string side to contest the triangular series at the end of May while the trip also includes two Twenty20 internationals against Zimbabwe. The English Twenty20 tournament starts on June 1.The other issue facing Northamptonshire is the Asia Cup which has yet to be confirmed in the schedule, but will impact on Sehwag’s availability should it occur in June or July. His NOC from the India board confirms that national duty must come before his county commitments. It was a significant coup for Northamptonshire to secure Sehwag’s signing as they aren’t classed as one of the main forces in the domestic game. He joins a list of high-profile players who are coming to England for the Twenty20 including Shahid Afridi, Herschelle Gibbs, Adam Gilchrist and Tillakaratne Dilshan.

Seemingly set fair at 55 without loss, Lancashire then lost four wickets forone run in the space of 31 balls as Kent’s seamers took advantage of some latemorning cloud cover.Lancashire re-grouped during the afternoon with contrasting half-centuries fromSteven Croft (65) and Sajid Mahmood (60), but Stevens’ haul of 3 for 33,coupled with two wickets apiece for Simon Cook, Matt Coles and Amjad Khanensured Kent were batting by 5pm.Having been offered a life at second when on nought, Kent captain Rob Keyreached eight from 29 balls when his leaden-footed waft flew to Tom Smith atsecond slip. Then, just before stumps, Sam Northeast’s painful season continued when hewalked across his stumps against Glenn Chapple to go lbw for a fourth-ball duckleaving Kent to go into the second day trailing by 213.Having won the toss in bright conditions Lancashire appeared in little troubleas openers Paul Horton and Smith posted 50 in 18 overs. The Current Favourites of the Premier League Title

Past the halfway point of 2021-22, Premier League finds Manchester City as the retainers of the Premier League titles.

However, several contenders could make a return, albeit a rocky start of the season. We will show you top-ranking teams’ odds to either retain or win the Premier League title.

Manchester City: Premier League Title Favourites

They were seen as favourites to keep the title even before the season kick-off. Manchester City seems to prove the predictions.

Given the strong start of the 2021-22 campaign and odds that evolved from 8/15 to 2/17 recently, with a 1/18 maximum, Pep Guardiola’s side remains at the top of the table.

Manchester City advanced ten points ahead of the main contestants, most recently following a 2-1 win against Arsenal. Rodri, one of the many team’s that are top FIFA performers of this season, scored the winner for Man City.

A win against Swindon Town seems to be a given. Still, the January 15 match against Chelsea may slightly affect its position. However, a 10-point advance and 95% probability of keeping the Premier League title is hard to topple.

The Main Contenders: Chelsea & Liverpool

With 12 wins out of 21 played matches, Chelsea may rival the 17 wins out of 21 matches feat of Man City.

Tuchel’s side, nonetheless, will have a hard time getting out of its string of constantly drawn matches, such as the most recent 2-2 result against Liverpool.

Is Liverpool the Main Contender?

This is also why some analysts place Liverpool as the second favourite, based on some bookie margins. And there is some truth to it.

The Reds have a better win percentage, with 12 out of 20. Additionally, both the objective number of goals and the goal difference are better than Chelsea’s, closer to Man City.

The most recent bookie odds place Liverpool at values ranging from 59/5 to 25/2, with the best choice being 61/5. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s odds are currently on the shift, with no consensus.

However, considering the point system of the Premier League title ranking, the Reds still lag behind Chelsea. But not by much.

Our educated guess is that the apparent instability between these two teams is rife with opportunities as far as betting is concerned. The Chelsea-Manchester City match will clarify it. While not resulting in the dethroning of the Premier League title favourites, a win or even a draw could put some distance between Chelsea and Liverpool.

The Rest of the Table

The official rankings show Arsenal, West Ham, the Spurs, and Manchester United to the remaining runners-up.

Other teams are sitting at under 30 points, or well over 20 points under the Premier League title favourites.

Bookie predictions also agree with the rankings, except for the presence of West Ham.

Manchester United

Manchester United disappointed many fans this season, especially given several high profile transfers, such as Jadon Sacho, Raphael Varane, and Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, following 19 matches, the team only accrued 31 points, and it seems to be in freefall.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur

The Spurs remain bookie favourites in matters of the regional rivalry with the Cannons, despite the former lagging behind the latter in the ranking ladder by two points.

We are hardly talking about Premier League title contestants. Still, as far as butting heads in the regional scene, the story is not clear-cut regarding Arsenal and Tottenham.

The Spurs can still challenge the Cannons for the fourth place, as the team is on the upswing. The wins to matches played ratios of the two clubs in this season are almost identical, with Tottenham Hotspur coming slightly on top. This trend is bound to continue, given the fewer games played by the team and Arsenal’s recent defeat against Manchester City.

However, just as for Chelsea, the draws the Sours faced hurt their rankings, compared to Arsenal that only saw a loss following a string of wins.

All things being said, the January 16 match between the two will clarify the rankings. A draw would not cut it for the Spurs, while the aggressive Arsenal playstyle may dish them the second notable defeat this season.

Final Predictions for the Premier League Title

Manchester City is bound to keep the title with no viable contestant. Neither Chelsea nor Liverpool have the time to close in the 10-point distance in half a season.

As for the second place in the Premier League title ranking, Chelsea will probably miss the mark and lose it to the Reds.

Arsenal does not have a steady enough hold on the fourth place. Tottenham Hotspur will advance in rank and will be a considerable challenge for the Cannons, judging by bookie odds.

West Ham United is another hurdle for the Spurs, as it still scores one point over the team. It has a better goal difference with similar other results. Nonetheless, West Ham failed to challenge Arsenal for advancing in the Premier League title ranking.

A final (potential) prediction for the Premier League title table would be:

Manchester City – the Premier League Title Winner Liverpool – the possible runner up in the future Chelsea – sent to third place if it fails to perform against Man City Arsenal – keeps its place only if it manages to beat the Spurs or ends with a draw Tottenham Hotspur – in case its advance stops with the Arsenal match West Ham United – it will probably be surpassed by the Spurs Manchester United – it can hardly recover from the season’s start Brighton and Hove Albion – it should manage to win against Crystal Palace Wolverhampton Wanderers – it may also maintain its 8th place if it performs well Leicester City or Crystal Palace – Leicester is falling in rank, while Crystal Palace has an opportunity to advance.

Is Manchester City guaranteed to win the Premier League title? No, but the team is the undisputed favourite of the 2021-22 season. No team has enough time nor a good enough performance to be a challenger. However, nothing is guaranteed, and the rankings, as well as bookie odds, are set to change in the future.
